Historic Kennebunkport B&B with just six rooms, period interiors and manicured gardens near busy Dock Square
Just a short stroll from Kennebunkport's shops, restaurants and galleries on Dock Square, the 1802 House was one of the town's first inns. The look is homey through and through, with a communal dining room (where a hearty three-course breakfast is served each morning), a lobby flanked by comfy armchairs and a cast iron fireplace, and just six guestrooms. No two of the 410-square-foot rooms are alike, but all include the same mod cons: flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, free WiFi and air conditioning. And many come equipped with romantic four-poster beds, fireplaces and baths or showers built for two.
In the Area
For local fare try nearby Old Vines, an Old World–meets–New World wine bar and lounge housed in a renovated barn, or Federal Jack’s, a riverfront brewpub that’s the birthplace of Shipyard beers. For a dose of retail therapy, hit all the boutiques and specialty shops in Kennebunk’s Lower Village and Dock Square. Few museums have as stunning a location — or view — as the oceanfront Ogunquit Museum of Art, which houses a distinguished permanent collection of American art, including works by Marsden Hartley and Rockwell Kent.
