Peaceful as always

I really enjoy the property. They have beautifully maintained grounds, and the staff is always pleasant and try to be helpful. Villas are comfortable and plenty of room if you have the one bedroom or two bedroom and more than 2 people.

Be prepared

In general a well-kept facility yet be prepared with your own rental car unless you plan on staying at the resort full time. If you want to do any exploring you must rent a car ahead of time at the Lihue airport. Taxi's are expensive and sometimes unreliable. There are no car rentals near Princeville. The pools are lovely and provide many different areas, some for kids, some quiet, some open with hot tubs. This resort overlooks the ocean but has no beach. The surf in Kauai is dangerous therefore many resorts don't offer a beach. The restaurants on site are overpriced and yet each unit has kitchenette an a local market make it possible to purchase your own food. You can grill easily at the resort in the shared grill areas. Overall a good experience, I just wish we had known about the transportation issue ahead of time.

The Westin in Princeville is a gem. The staff is superb and extremely friendly- lots of smiles. The grounds are well maintained and have been creatively designed for maximum esthetics. The kitchens are Spartan- bare minimum to do a simple meal. The units are dated and furniture pretty worn. They’re due for rehab now. I was in three different units(until I got a suitable location) and all were the same in wear and tear. But my overall experience was very positive- I’d go back in a heartbeat!

They said we could have an early check in, but waited past the normal check in time. When we finally got our room keys, the dishwasher was broken with a full load of dishes in it and the foldout couch had food in it and a lousy mattress. They fixed both and gave us a $100 resort credit, but we had to leave for an hour which, when combined with the late check in, killed our first day. Mostly though, there is nothing to do at the resort. The beach is two miles away with limited public access parking (though the resort does run a shuttle). All the sites, attractions and activities are on the other side of the island which is an hour plus drive away. We could have stayed closer to them for less money. Not worth the cost unless you just want to sit by the pools and listen to screaming kids the whole time.

Experience local, tranquil Hawaii in luxury

Love the Westin brand and this resort lives up to what we love about Westin so much. Clean. Classic. Local vibe. Friendly staff. We had a great view of the smaller pool and ocean from our 2nd story balcony in building 6. Parking is always challenging, but it's a nice stroll to the building anyways. No beach at this resort but Hanalei is just minutes away with a great local town feel and wonderful beach. We lucked out as we didn't see much rain for the north side of the island.
