How to Get There
We love this resort and will return again and again. The staff is very attentive. The property is beautiful, but be advised, there is no beach access. The beach is located a short drive down the road.
We are vacation owners and rented a one bedroom villa for just under a two weeks stay. We are in the midst of our stay at time of this review.
Upon arrival at 12pm, we were greeted by front desk staff - super welcoming - AND Masa was the security staff that also assists guest with bell service. We had an issue with the villa assigned to us and had to be switched to another. Masa worked with Margo at front desk to assign another room for us. They were top notch professional, empathetic to tired weary travelers, and I just can’t say enough great things about them- so impressed how they handled our situation that set the stage for our stay. They are an asset to Westin and I hope they have great opportunities for advancement and career growth. They are wonderful with customers!!
After our first night we realized our bed was worn and had a big sunken hole in each side. We called Timothy the manager on duty and explained the issue. He apologized for the experience and the staff quickly switched the mattress out with a new one. Our accommodations in our villa are nice now! There could be a few touch up issues here and there but we are happy!
The grounds are lovely and the pools are nice and accommodating with poolside service- you can easily spend the day hanging out poolside. A shout out to the pool staff - all have been super!
There is no ‘spa’ onsite at this hotel and you have the option to go to Princeville Resort a sister property close by for the full spa experience. The massage services available are located on site in a cabana on the grounds. I had a Lori Lomi massage and it was wonderful!
A service opportunity for the hotel - We had a package delivered to us at the hotel and when we called to have it brought to our villa we were told there is a $5 charge. To me, it is unacceptable and takes away from the hotel’s brand and level of service that Westin is known for and the SPG brands- this is such a two star
Roxanne at the Consierge desk is fantastic and has been knowledgeable and proactive with requests and information. When booking excursions she takes time to provide you with insight and things to consider/anticipate with traffic conditions, weather, timing overall. Unfortunately not all Consierge staff is as friendly as Roxanne and there’s some improvements that could be made.
The location of the resort is great. You do have beach access but just not on the property as it sits atop a cliff. No worries here - this side of the island is so green and lush the mountain and garden settings are breathtaking. Also between Princeville and Lihue there are spectacular beaches lining the main road commenting the towns. Kauai is unique as it is not too large and has so many swimmable beaches for snorkeling or surfing.
Princeville is great if you are staying on Kauai for over five days. Poipu to the south is great for the shorter stay and you want to concentrate on beach time. I now have a huge appreciation for the landscape, beaches and variety to activities to experience on the North side of the island.
I recommend the Westin Princeville and would stay here again.
Great place for a stay in early December expect the rainy periods every day but crowds are down. Staff is awesome however restraunt food on site below par except for breakfast buffet. Better places and less expensive places to eat nearby. Overall great place to stay when in Kuaui
Excellent accommodations and service. This is an exquisite resort. The rooms and public areas are beautifully maintained and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Our room had an incredible ocean view. We also found the concierge services very helpful and professional.
The Resort is lovely & has all the amenities needed for a Hawaiian retreat. The grounds are picturesque, rooms are well-appointed, and the staff service is excellent. Although it’s not beach front, there’s a free shuttle to a resort with a beach. We stayed in a studio unit with a kitchenette boasting a full size refrigerator, 2 burner stove, and mini-dishwasher with cookeware & dining utensils. The gym included free weights, recumbent bikes, and treadmills plus a sauna.
Here are some things to mentally prepare for beforehand. First, the drive from the airport to the hotel is highly likely to be heavily traffic-ridden. In fact, due to the drive from the airport to the resort traffic, and word from locals that Kauai has traffic from Princeville to wherever you go on the island, we decided to skip touring the island and just hang in Princeville and the immediately surrounding areas. We live in traffic at home. So avoiding traffic is a huge part of the relaxation we seek vacationing.
When you check in, you may be offered a breakfast buffet in lieu of room service. The buffet is delicious, but it was a 2 for 1 offer and still quite expensive for two. We indulged in this breakfast treat only once.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were exhausted from the flight and drive, and were famished. So, I ordered room service veggies, a small dessert, a delicious chicken wrap, a small turkey sandwich and hearty mashed potatoes - which cost almost $100. It all tasted great! The food definitely was fresh, but expensive. We did not order more room service due to the high price.
Just a few minutes further down the highway is a fabulous grocery store with everything needed to stock your fridge. We visited the grocery store often.
Also, in Hanalei area, there are more restaurants that have great local faire and are much more economical than room service.
Before we arrived, the weatherchannel app reported that there would be thunder showers on every day on our trip. Thankfully, there was only some light rain - mostly at night - throughout the entire trip, and only one late night with heavy rain and a thunder. So, don’t be dissuaded by forecasts of daily thunder showers. There's is likely to be much sun-filled daylight to enjoy, based on our experience.
