How to Get There
We rented one of their amazing apartments, they are huge, fully equipped and beautifully furnished. We had a great beach view apartment with a little garden. Also worth mentioning is their amazing pool, great for kids and adults alike. Next to their pool you can also use one of their grills for your own BBQ.
The whole property was well thought through even in little details like avoiding cards but giving you a code for your room and the pool.
Also important to mention the great staff that was very friendly and helpful.
We stayed in a Studio Room which was very dark, at zero places in the bathroom to put any toiletries (ie brush, tooth paste, etc). At check in we were told we would be charged a $140 cleaning fee and $20/night resort fee. I've stayed all over the world and I've never been ripped off like this. The studio was 1/10 the size of my house and my maids charge less than this for a 2600 sqft house. Would not stay there again.
We stayed here as a family of 5 - kids 10, 10, and 12. It turned out to be our favorite of the three islands. Our condo had everything and more that our family could have needed. With two full bathrooms, twin beds, and a sleeper sofa, the kids had more than enough room space to stretch. The pool was the highlight. We went swimming everyday after touring the island. It’s plenty big and not crowded. There’s a main pool area by the water slide and it extends to what looks like a lazy river (really not though - no current) complete with a waterfall and small cave. Want a hot tub? How about 3? Two for the adults and one for the family.
You cannot beat the location of the resort. All other areas of the island are no more than a 45-minute drive with the exception of Waimea Canyon (1hr, 15 min). Traffic can be a beast heading towards the airport beginning late morning so plan accordingly if you have reservations at Jack Harter for a helicopter tour. Food and shopping are all nearby. Do take the time to drive to Porky’s food truck up the road. Seriously, this alone may have been worth my trip to Kauai!
We didn’t eat at the restaurant but did take advantage of their happy hour from 4-6 M-F. Half off draft beer and signature cocktails. All beverages can be taken poolside; just let them know. We’ll definitely stay here again if ever back to visit this beautiful island.
I stayed here with my husband, our two kids (5 and 3) and my sister. The kids loved it. We were in D406 so we had a great view of the pool and the ocean beyond. The unit was very spacious. There are 3 bathrooms so getting cleaned up after the beach/pool is easy. The kids LOVED the pool. It was a little cool while we were there but there's a family hot tub that doesn't get too hot which was perfect. The restaurant onsite is great. We liked being on the east coast because it was easy to access all of the island. It was rainy in the north so we spent most of our time at the resort or heading south and west.
We just returned from our 5 day stay at Waipouli Beach Resort. First off, all condos are privately owned (not a hotel) and there are several different companies that rent them out. Our unit was very clean when we arrived and all appliances incl washer/dryer worked great. Really nice to be able to do laundry as needed, they even left detergent for us. Just know there is no maid service once you arrive and other than a lady greeter sitting at a desk in the main lobby no concierge either. I highly recommend booking thru Kauai Exclusive Management, they have an app (Rental Host) which makes communication simple and easy, they were very responsive to any questions I had.
The condo we stayed in was huge (2 bedroom, 3 bath, Blg H), very clean, beautifully decorated with a gorgeous ocean view as well as pool(s) view. It was perfect for our family of 4, though with the couch in the living room it could stretch to accommodate 5 (couch was a bit squishy so maybe not supportive enough for an adult). The pools and hot tubs were clean and well maintained. You can check out pool towels and get fresh ones every day. Also they told us we could take the pool towels anywhere on the island. The resort as a whole is well maintained. Nice and quiet at night for sleeping. Wifi worked great for us. I felt for the price it was worth it, they told us the out cleaning fee ($200) up front so we weren't surprised. Check in is 3pm and check out is 10am so plan flights accordingly.
The beach at WBR has nice sand for laying out but in the water it is quite rocky and fairly shallow, minimal waves. We bought inexpensive dive booties on Amazon before we came which made swimming easy and fun. There are local stores in Kapaa that sell/rent them as well.
Local beaches: We went snorkeling at Anini Beach (decent but not spectacular fish viewing) where it was also rocky and the boots came in handy there as well. Not far from WBR is Kealia Beach which was perfect for boogie boarding and body surfing, not rocky at all.
Weather: the east shore of Kauai gets lots of rain but mostly it's a passing shower followed by sun with plenty of humidity, we weren't bothered by it and the condo had really good AC which was essential. But if you're after drier weather try Poipu to the south.
Food: There is a Safeway market right across the street which made it really easy to eat our breakfasts in the condo and enjoy the ocean view on our patio, so enjoyed the sunrise breakfasts. Also, next to Safeway there's a Panda Express and Subway for meals on the go. The Oasis restaurant/bar is on the WBR grounds, good food, typical island pricey, don't expect big portions, nice beachy ambiance though.
FYI: We did the Ride & Glide (zipline and horseback tour) at Princeville Ranch Adventures, super fun, highly recommend it.
Overall the perfect Kauai getaway for us.
