Thailand’s islands will always be a limelight-stealer, and among them, Phuket still reigns as the one that has something for everyone. Its famous Andaman side may have been well and truly discovered by jet-setting nomads already, but the legendary beaches have certainly not lost their allure.
For a stay that’s central to many of the west coast’s attractions, park yourself halfway down in the resort town of Patong. It’s home to one of the island’s largest and most popular stretches of sand, as well as a raucous nightlife scene, if that’s your cup of tea. The Lunar Patong puts you at the edge of the action – close enough for nocturnal creatures and perfectly quiet for those who are not – and offers simple, clean-lined rooms that are ideal for a fly-and-flop break.
With a multitude of restaurants around and the seashore only minutes away, this mid-sized hotel is a savvy base for beach-goers. The modern restaurant and freeform infinity pool with mountain views are enough to inspire a few days of relaxation on-site, too.
How to Get There
Booked the hotel's junior suite. The agoda's room type junior suite introduces a room type with one or two twin beds. I also indicated the room to be a twin when making an appointment. When I entered the room, I found it was a bed. Go to the counter and ask. I have to change the double bed. The counter service staff uses Thai English. Say no. I said that I am willing to downgrade the room type. I only ask for a double bed. The service staff of the two beds can't say it. I said that I am willing to pay more for renting cotton. The service staff can't say no. No extra bed. There are many mosquitoes in the room. The floor is dusty. Sand. It feels dirty. It is a poor service hotel.
My friend & I stayed for 8 nights in February 2018. The staff were lovely and as helpful as possible, although it was immediately obvious there was a massive lack of training.
We booked a room with 2 single beds, and were given a room with a king bed, directly facing a construction site. We were moved upon request & then found our new rooms bed sheets were filthy - with what looked like blood & fake tan.
The staff members came & changed the sheets very quickly when notified.
The breakfast options were good, and the hotel is in a great location - minus the massive construction next door.
Definitely could do with a good clean.
The Lunar Patong is a wonderful hotel, which offers complementary breakfast.
The hotel restaurant offers great food. Certainly value for money. The room was spacious and comfortable. Staff were always very helpful and friendly.
Just returned from 10 days at The Lunar Patong. Don't stay here if you want to bathe in the pool, use the restaurant, sunbathe or sleep in the mornings!
Very annoyed to find that there are major building works happening straight across from the pool, restaurant and rooms. 8am till 8pm. Although the hotel Manager said they were supposed to finish at 5.30pm. They are drilling and boring the whole day long.
It ruined our holiday as we like to swim in the pool rather than the sea.
The Manager showed us three different rooms after our first three days of putting up with noise. Each room was noisier than the last.
As it's an independent hotel, they could not move us. We ended up in a street edge room, which was quieter from the building, but noisier with mopeds etc.
The hotel is long and faces one way. It's at the end of a Main Street in Patong. I was happy with where it was as the beach was five minutes walk and JunkCeylon shopping centre and Banglar Road about 15 minutes walk.
Lots of restaurants and shops in the vicinity including pharmacists and supermarkets.
The rooms were similar to Premier Inn. Drawers are required, there are none! There are towels for the pool, shampoos etc and there is a mini bar which you pay for. You do however get two bottles of water per day free.
We had to pay 1000 Thai Bhat deposit also, which we were unaware of.
There is a breakfast room in ground floor and a restaurant on second. There is a bar on the edge of the property. No one seemed to use.
Food in the restaurant was the same choice for ten days. We ate out often, due to noise and lack of choice.
I found the reception staff rather unfriendly and didn't understand English.
Rooms were cleaned very basically.
Hotel looks better in a brochure than it does in true life!
Would I return to this hotel. No
Stayed here for 11 nights. Hotel is relatively new/refurbished and has basic amenities like an infinity pool and a restaurant. The reason I chose this hotel was because of the great reviews on Tripadvisor, but they've obviously let things slip in the cleaning/maintenance department.
The room furniture and and bathroom finishes are new. The only problems that this hotel has is that the bathrooms and room floor tiles are very poorly cleaned. There was mould and soap stains in the shower when we arrived and it was never cleaned.
The other issue is the bedroom linen. It seems that the sheets were never changed and the beds were just remade every day.
There is a small TV and a bar fridge. The bar fridge is very basically stocked. There are many TV channels to choose from.
Staff were fairly pleasant and helpful. Check in was very smooth, but they do require a $100 room deposit on check in (which I wasn't made aware of on booking).
The hotel restaurant was average, with not alot of variety, it does overlook the infinity pool though.
As a whole, the hotel provided good value for money, but it wouldn't hurt anyone to clean a room and bathroom properly. Would recommend if on a budget.
*Please be advised that there is currently construction site next to the hotel causing a lot of noise throughout the day and evening.
We stayed on the 7th (top) floor and there is hardly any sea views. Views are blocked by buildings.
