Thailand’s islands will always be a limelight-stealer, and among them, Phuket still reigns as the one that has something for everyone. Its famous Andaman side may have been well and truly discovered by jet-setting nomads already, but the legendary beaches have certainly not lost their allure.
For a stay that’s central to many of the west coast’s attractions, park yourself halfway down in the resort town of Patong. It’s home to one of the island’s largest and most popular stretches of sand, as well as a raucous nightlife scene, if that’s your cup of tea. The Lunar Patong puts you at the edge of the action – close enough for nocturnal creatures and perfectly quiet for those who are not – and offers simple, clean-lined rooms that are ideal for a fly-and-flop break.
With a multitude of restaurants around and the seashore only minutes away, this mid-sized hotel is a savvy base for beach-goers. The modern restaurant and freeform infinity pool with mountain views are enough to inspire a few days of relaxation on-site, too.
How to Get There
Location: a little too far away from everything for my liking. It's around 20 minutes walk to Bangla Road and the centre.
Room: Really nice and big. Big safe that could even store my laptop.
Hotel generally: I haven't used the pool area but the hotel seemed rather dated. Reception stuff barely spoke english but they did get me a room early when I arrived which was nice. Late check-out is 200 baht per hour, which stroke me as bad client service really. The hotel was basically empty so I dont understand why this was a problem. However, I called for a tooth brush and this was brought up to me free of charge in no time.
For the price the hotel was really ok but I wouldn't stay longer than a few nights.
Front counter staff are very very rude! Our family arrived where we had booked 5 rooms. We were greeted by a horrible woman that firstly made us wait several minutes as she checked her Facebook right in front of us. Once she greeted us she was rude & very unhelpful. When she was confronted and told she was rude and we didn’t appreciate being spoken to like that, she laughed then starting talking to someone in another language, obviously about us. She definitely put a downer on this hotel. If you do decide to stay here, go straight across the road to the Baan Thai for food.... very good & super friendly staff. As for the hotel, it’s nice. They do charge a 2000 baht security bond for each room. One of the staff was writing down my credit card details on a piece of paper... I took this paper back and ripped it up as the rooms & security bonds had already been paid. I don’t see a reason to have credit card details, particularly handwritten on a piece of paper.
WE were really disappointed by this hotel. The "pool access" room was very insignificant, small filled with mosquitos and not clean. The hotel is run down. The pool was very cold and had NO sun on it at all. Basically, this is a low budget hotel. Don't waste your time. For December, you are just going to have to pay more money for a better place. The location was ok.
