Overall good hotel for exploring Suzhou
W hotel is another good option which has a better location but more for the young at heart
I've been a regular at this hotel since it opened over 10 years ago. It's kept its quality and service over the years and the price has stayed low. Unfortunately Shi Shan Road outside the hotel seems to have never ending construction and road works - now another subway line is being built. You can't hear it from the rooms, but crossing the roads is a pain and traffic is a mess. A huge new Longfor Shopping Center has opened across the road and this has plenty of eating and shopping options. The breakfast is still sumptuous and they have some local delicacies and dumplings worth sampling.
My major complaint is the indoor swimming pool. They require you to wear a cap, but the adults they let in to swim expectorated and spat their stuff into the side of the pool after every length they swam. The lifeguard sat there and didn't do anything about it as they seemed like regulars. It made me feel sick and I refused to get in the pool and I told my son to leave after swimming 2 lengths. This is a serious hygiene problem to cough, expectorate and spit into the side of the pool and should not be tolerated by the management. It's a shame as the rest of the hotel is wonderful.
The hotel location is great as it is across the road from a shopping mall - pity that I didn’t have the time to go shopping during this business trip.
The room was a nice size, bed was comfy and all fittings and fixture were of good standards.
It’s my first time visiting China and first hotel checked in China!
The buffet breakfast was typical for an Asian breakfast spread and limited for Western food selection. However having said that there’s the typical baked beans, eggs and bacon selection. The bigger question is - why not try the local cuisine - you won’t be disappointed if you want to explore a breakfast spread of noodles, dumplings and rice.
Overall, a good stay.
