Between Kunshan and Suzhou, around an hour from Shanghai, this lakeside hotel is a favorite with Shanghainese looking for a relaxing weekend escape. The guestrooms make the most of the rural setting beside Yancheng Lake Park, with floor-to-ceiling windows framing views of the park to the north and the lake to the south. The rooms start at a spacious 484 square feet and have one King or two Double beds, plus 42-inch flat-screen TVs, marble bathrooms with walk-in showers, and modern decor in a choice of light (yellow and gold) or dark (brown and green) color schemes. The popular Signature Lake View Rooms also have private balconies overlooking the lake. Downstairs, the signature Yi Feng Court restaurant dishes up Cantonese fare prepared with ingredients from the hotel’s 200-acre organic farm, as well as from Yangcheng Lake, which is home to the region’s famous hairy crab. There’s also the Essence restaurant for Western dishes, and afternoon tea served in the Luwei Lobby Lounge. For sybarites there’s the Willow Stream Spa and the indoor and outdoor pools, while parents can make the most of the hotel’s kids club (for ages three to 12), which keeps youngsters entertained making scarecrows, painting, birdwatching and harvesting honey from the farm’s 25 hives.
In the Area
A popular escape from Shanghai, the Fairmont Yangcheng Lake lets visitors make the most of the great outdoors. Ask the concierge to organize a fishing, biking or hiking excursion within Yangcheng Lake Park, or perfect your croquet swing on the hotel’s manicured lawn. Golf lovers have easy access to the 18-hole Grand Shanghai International & Holiday Resort, or you can head farther afield to the 1,000-year-old town of Zhou Zhuang or the Museum of Kun Opera.
How to Get There
Everything we ordered was great and prepared well. Only thing keeping it from being a five star experience is the time it took for the dishes to come out. Slow for how few people were dining at the time.
We did many activities over the weekend. The DIY lipstick session was very fun for the children. Belle Gao was absolutely lovely in teaching the kids, she is patient and helpful. The spa was exclusive, professional and very relaxing. We have once again attended the annual Easter Egg Hunt which the kids absolutely love. Special mention is to be given to Duty Manager Chris Yin and his team Eric, Sammi and Olivia. It is my husband's birthday and they went out of their way to decorate the room and even provided a cake. We have been to Kunshan Fairmont many times and it never disappoints.
This is a lovey hotel in a fantastic setting. I love going for a morning run around the trails by the lake, down to the organic farm. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the staff are tremendously friendly and eager to help. I have stayed here probably 30 times and always love it.
