How to Get There
I chose the Waldorf because I am a Hilton junkie and the location. For a Waldorf, the service was very inconsistent. The food was excellent. I was interrupted in my room while the Do Not Disturb light was on. I had not ordered anything. Some of the wait staff was phenomenal and others were mediocre at best. I left some grocery bags buried under my shoes (I use them to wrap my shoes in the luggage) and after a week, one of the housekeeping threw them out. Doormen were all excellent as was the front desk.
As a 60th birthday treat my husband had the brilliant idea to order tea for two at the Waldorf Astoria, Jerusalem.
It was lovely. We are originally from England so know the tradition of Afternoon Tea very well. The Waldorf got it 90% right. The sandwiches were perfect and the cakes, delicious. Everything served on beautiful plates, etc. We were given to choose 2 teas from the selection offered which were then taken and prepared in teapots in the kitchen. We were advised to wait 5 minutes to allow the tea to "brew". The only points they should pay attention to are that there were spoons to eat the cakes with and there should have been cake forks and they forgot to bring the strawberry jam and cream to put on the scones. Thank you to my other half for a lovely birthday present.
Everything about the stay was wonderful. The service, room, food and location were all superb. My wife and I were there to celebrate our anniversary, and they even sent a gift and note to our room. The experience was truly special and memorable.
Wow! This hotel is beautiful, food is phenomenal and the people are wonderfully kind and helpful. Ms. Khoury, personal concierge, was immediately helpful with an issue. Ruly, another personal concierge asked me which specific nespresso flavors I liked and went to the store to stock up for my trip. Shlomie the concierge took whatever time necessary to help with all plans. There’s Adnan, the gentlemen who greets you at the front door, seemingly his primary job is to smile widely while greeting you and making sure you have everything you need upon entering and exiting the hotel. Hotel rooms are beautifully decorated, what you’d expect from a Waldorf experience. There’s a tv in the mirror of every bathroom, not something I use but you get the idea that they want this hotel to be #1.
The location can’t be beat. It’s a half block from Mamilla mall, an upscale outdoor mall which is a must see. It’s about a 15 minute walk to the Kotel (Western Wall). If you observe Shabbos, it’s especially ideal as it has taken every precaution making it all very easy. Please note: I have seen some reviews by people who were surprised by the fact that the hotel was kosher… Understand that generally the higher end hotels in the area only offer kosher cuisine and best to be aware of what that means if you do not keep kosher. In any case, the food and its presentation is exceptional. Also this hotel doesn’t have a pool and the gym is simple, some free weights, treadmill, elliptical...
The manager Avner On and his assistant Yael Hecht are always willing to help. Diamond members are accommodated with an upgrade depending on availability. As Jerusalem hotels go, this is the one I return to... you feel safe, at home and with people who go the extra mile to make your stay pleasant.
What a wonderful hotel! We're picky and when we spend a lot of money on a hotel room, we're even more so, but our four nights at the Waldorf were virtually flawless.
Our King Superior room (with balcony) was stunning. The bathroom was one of the best I've used before. Japanese-style Washlet toilets are the only possible upgrade, but, really, very comfortable.
Our bedroom was beautifully lit and had a comfortable bed. Cleaning service came at slightly different times each day, which made day-trip and afternoon nap planning a bit challenging, but not inconvenient. Our room was beautifully cleaned every day and, as such, we got to see the room absolutely fresh each day. Turn down service was also appreciated.
Breakfast - with the exception of Saturday morning (Shabbat) - was ornate. The Eggs Benedict was amazing.
From check in to check out, we felt like special guests - something we expect from luxury hotels, though, sadly something that is not universal. Superb service is, very obviously, a priority at this hotel. Staying here greatly complimented our vacation to this wonderful city.
