Just a great place for dinner in Cape May. The building, ambiance, staff, service - all wonderful. The inn offers a great menu with knowledgeable, friendly, and informative wait staff. On each visit the food was excellent. It is also BYO, so you can bring your wine of choice. Put this on your restaurant list on any visit to Cape May.

Birthday

I brought my husband here for his birthday last summer. It so happened that it was restaurant week as well so I planned in advance to make reservations at this Fantastic Establishment! They seated us right away and all of the servers greeted my husband Happy Birthday. The food was all beautifully presented and delicious. It’s a BYOB but I forgot to bring a bottle and it was nice that they served wine there too. The ambience was lovely and the piano player played Happy Birthday when they served our dessert. We have reservations for Restaurant weekend in November and my sister and her husband will be joining us. Can’t wait for another Excellent meal!!!

Classic Inn with great ocean view

This historic Inn has an unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean. You can choose a porch table when weather permits or a table in one of several small, quaint cozy indoor rooms. Many nights there is a piano player to enhance the rooms. Wait staff is very professional and upscale. Menu items vary, but always of excellent quality and tastefully presented. Business casual would be the recommended dress code. One of the best restaurants in a town with more than most.

Nice meal

BYOB ...or they carry local Cape May wines. We arrived 20 min early to check in ... hostess pointed out that we were early and said she would try to seat us early, and she went to find a table before I could even get a moment to say “it’s ok, we are just checking in” — this is a tiny criticism. We were then seated at a cozy table in the front room. My chair had a small but noticeable red/brown stain on the seating upholstery — tiny criticism.
We really enjoyed our food... lots of flavors going on in each plate. Appetizers were delicious. I ordered the halibut entree ... tasty but could have used a pinch or two of salt. Beautiful plating ... appealing to eyes. Wait staff friendly and very attentive. Great desserts. Elegant atmosphere. This is a restaurant that is perfect for a special occasion such as an anniversary or birthday.

Absolutely Perfect Meal

Made a reservation at Peter Shields based on the reviews I had read. The meal did not disappoint and confirmed what everyone was saying about how fabulous the restaurant was. Definitely pricey, but worth every penny...probably the one of the best meals I have ever had at a restaurant. Just an FYI, it is BYOB as it doesn't have a liquor license. Started with the foie gras and the gazpacho (was a special that evening). My friend and I enjoyed both of our appetizers. Entree was delicious and the veggies just melted in your mouth. Left feeling satisfied, but not over stuffed. Will definitely return!
