With 433 rooms and a commanding location on the most perfect curve of Banderas Bay, this sprawling resort has plenty of presence. Rooms offer bright splashes of tropical color to punctuate the white and beige. Just steps from the hotel is a sublime beach lined with palm trees and offering all kinds of watersports and activities, from kite boarding to sea turtle release. The bar serves a great range of top-shelf tequilas and The Ohtli Spa is a highlight, offering a slew of treatments inspired by healing techniques and Shamanistic traditions of the Huichol Indians.
In the Area
In season, whale watching on the bay is a must: take a boat trip with a local outfit like Wildlife Connection for up-close encounters with these gentle giants. In the town itself, join an art walk on the famous Malecon boardwalk, with its oceanfront sculptures. Then fill up on Puerto Vallarta’s other claim to fame, its excellent gourmet scene, with world-class restaurants like boho Café des Artistes, overlooking The Malecon, or al fresco La Palapa, in the so-called “Romantic Zone” by Los Muertos Beach, serving jazzed-up local favorites like tortilla soup.
How to Get There
I've stayed here twice this year and my second time reaffirmed my feelings about my first stay. This place is the best! The rooms were spotless and spacious and included turn-down service each night. I especially enjoyed my view from the balcony which overlooked the beach and pool area. Whenever I needed some alone time for my sun worship, the patio was a perfect place for respite. The bathroom facilities were modern and adequate. I especially appreciate the minibar, which was restocked daily because I kept eating the Doritos. (Trust me, they're better in Mexico!)
There are at least 5 dining options on site. They're all pretty great. We kept visiting Champions, the sports bar, because it's open late and they're very accommodating. We also gave La Estancia a try for the Tequila Tastings, which are offered every Tuesday and Thursday. It was informative and the tequilas & small bites. I also discovered that I don't hate tequila like I thought I did. In fact, I rather enjoy the Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo varieties. La Estancia also hosts breakfast/brunch daily, which features plated and buffet options. We enjoyed the pancakes so much that we went two days in a row! We also tried
Marriott also offers a nice private beach area and pool (which was under construction during most of our stay). Not to worry, the Marriott waived the resort fee and provided shuttle service to the nearby Westin Puerta Vallarta daily and several times throughout the day.
The real stars of the Marriott Show (besides Mitzy, the resident feline :)) are the staff. We were treated like royalty by each greeter, server, housekeeper, maintenance staff, bellboy, manager, and any staff that we had the pleasure to meet. Ernesto, the Welcome Host and artist extraordinaire, was extremely helpful, polite, informative, friendly, awesome, thoughtful...just everything! I've run out of adjectives thinking of ways to describe just how great he is. For example, my friends got engaged on the trip. Ernesto arranged to have their door decorated and sent a bottle of the hotel's best champagne and chocolate covered strawberries as soon as he heard of the proposal!
Our room was closer to the staff elevator and I'd like to see an elevator option for hotel patrons who stay closer to the beach side of the hotel. That's a small gripe, however. The staff and facilities made our vacation truly a five-star experience. I can't wait to go back next year!
My wife and I decided after 24 years of marriage ( didn’t have the funds for a proper honeymoon????) and raising a couple kids, we should finally take a “just the two of us” vacation away.
We had a late flight in and made it to the Marriott around 10 pm. After checking in with Valeria at the front desk, Ramon the bell hop, would have nothing to do with me trying to bring our luggage up to the room and he guided us to our 8th floor, garden view room. After a day of flying, we were ready for a snack and some beverages so we stopped in at the Ceviche tequila bar in the lobby. Our waiter Daniel met us with a smile and prompt service. Daniel quickly became a fixture in our daily routine as he is also a fantastic singer and always called my wife and I by name. We always made a point of stopping in at Ceviche and when Daniel wasn’t working, Bernice would always make us feel just as welcome and took great care of us.
The morning of our first full day in Puerto Vallarta, I dropped into the Mango deli and coffee shop where I was warmly greeted by the staff. Noemi, Jessica and Andreas were incredibly friendly and helpful and made a perfect coffee and iced latte. I had the great fortune to meet the hotel concierge Ernesto on our morning walk around the beautiful property. I can’t say that I have ever been welcomed so warmly anywhere I’ve been. He quickly became a friend of ours that we would make it a point to see daily for information, advice and good conversation.
We would also spend our afternoons at the beach and Warren ran an amazing staff of people. Our first day in, Marcos and Ernesto “woody” we’re incredibly prompt and professional, not to mention the fact that the drinks were fantastic. During my stay, a few hours of beach time was always included in my schedule and Woody, Francisco and Ernesto always treated me like I was the most important person on the beach.
I really cannot compliment the hotel or the entire staff enough. Thank you Marriott PV for giving my wife and I an unforgettable vacation. We will be back, without question.
Ok so...my wife and I decided to vacation with 2 friends for both our anniversaries. When we arrived, we were greeted by the most amazing host Ernesto Aguirre. He made us feel at home in his home country. This was all of our first times in Puerto Vallarta. All of our accommodations were excellent. All the staff was absolutely some of the nicest people we’ve met in quite some time. Our housekeeper Marienela (spelling) kept our room in the best condition. The upgraded pool was AMAZING. We all decided that when we return (because we are coming back) that this is where we will come back to!!!! Oh and I can’t forget about Mitzy. She is sooo cute!!!!
