The feeling at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit is larger than life. Guests arrive into a soaring palapa lobby before being ushered off to suites that measure more than 1,000 square feet. The roster of fitness classes is impressive, ranging from Pilates to salsa dancing, and the spa, a member of Leading Spas of the World, is the largest in the region. The amenities are generous too, with gourmet dining options, unlimited premium liquors, a 24-hour concierge, non-motorized water sports and even scuba classes included.
In the Area
With so much to do on the property, there’s little incentive to leave. But guests who venture out can take canopy tours, fly on zip-lines, swim with dolphins, go whale watching, snorkel, shop and stroll along El Malecón in Puerto Vallarta, and take scenic sunset or dinner cruises in Banderas Bay. The fairways of the Marina Vallarta and Vista Vallarta golf courses are just 15 minutes from the resort.
How to Get There
It doesn't get much better than this. The hotel itself is beautiful and new. Its location is right on the beach with views from the room and a restaurant that walks out to the beach. It is an all inclusive so pretty much everything you need -- all meals, all drinks, and lots of activities -- are all paid for. The five restaurants on the property are all nice (even if the service was a little slow and sloppy at times). If you are looking for a wonderfully relaxing place to go and enjoy Puerto Vallarta from, this would be it.
This was our 1st stay at the resort. It is a bit pricey but from the beginning we were pampered in every way. They come to you for the check in while the waiter brings you a drink and you get a short massage, perfect way to relax after a day of travel. We later met our personal concierge Maria who made sure that we had everything we needed for our stay. Wait staff went over the top to make sure we were taken care of during our stay. We did Aqua forze (water yoga) with Diego and he was great with instructions and very patient, it was a lot of fun. The gym had all of the machines you could imagine, no need to short change your workout. The location was great whether you wanted a long walk on the beach or around town, We felt very safe. There is a shopping center about a mile away, worth the walk. Even at the end of our stay they were fantastic, we had a later flight and after check in we were able to hang out and still enjoy the resort. Its smaller than most so you don't have as many pools etc but I preferred the cozier environment. Even at full capacity it never seemed crazy and the service was still top notch. We also appreciate their use of cloth napkins etc, this is a very environmentally friendly resort. Another great thing about the resort is you don't have to mess with towel cards, the pool towels were plentiful and easily accessible. The lounge chairs are very cushy and comfortable.
I'm actually writing this review with 2 more days left on our trip. We live in Milwaukee and go on vacation at the height of winter- Jan/ Feb. We chose this destination since we booked through FunJet and were able to get a direct charter flight here. With two children, 8 months and 2 and 1/2 years, direct flights and all inclusive resorts were paramount. I got married at an all inclusive, the Westin, in Costa Rica which was impressive with respect to food/ entertainment and beach location.
This hotel eclipses the Westin in all regard. It is situated on a pristine beach front; with three infinity pools with varying temperatures and a swim up bar.
We mostly ate at Azul (the main restaurant open from 7am -6pm for Buffet breakfast and lunches) and room service. While we only dined here, the food is exceptional especially the breakfast with an array of fresh juices, a made to order egg station, continental fare and really delicious Mexican fare with killer salsas.
Room service food is fair and should only be ordered in a pinch.
There is another snack food restaurant which people mostly eat at while lounging at the pool which has excellent burgers and ceviche.
There's a Kids club which can entertain/baby sit kids 4-12. We did take our kid there for some activities: painting, masks, face painting, piñata and noticed some kids with disabilities and some younger kids as well which they will take care of at an additional cost.
We also did a photo shoot through DreamArt photography which while pricey is so worth it and I ended up buying all our pictures.
There are four restaurants that have a dress code of casual chic, no flip fops, beach wear and have heard good things from other guests here but I can't attest to it having not dined there.
We also enjoyed the Fiesta that was set up in one of the beautifully manicured gardens with Mariachi; this was such a treat. They have occasional themed events.
The bar that is open to1 am also has live musicians.
This oasis of a resort is always teeming with activity whether its a wedding, private event or the hotel organized entertainment which is plentiful. You don't have to leave this paradise except maybe to do laundry ( which we did at the Laundromat) after being here for 12 days.
I haven't tried out the Spa but has a full array of services ( I got a taste of it at check in with a welcome neck massage)
The gym has classes include anti-gravity yoga which is marvelous and highly recommended.
The staff is phenomenal esp the cleaning crew that work tirelessly. although the hotel states that the all inclusive includes gratuity and tips, tipping your wait staff and cleaning ladies is recommended. ( you will be pleased with the extra mile)
I highly recommend this property and will be coming back!
Our week at Grand Velas left us confident that next time we’re thinking of a beach vacation, there’s a real possibility we’ll come right back here. We started each day on our balcony with room service breakfast, followed most days by a fitness class of aerial yoga, Hatha, or Pilates, and then to the beach where there was always a pair of lounge chairs with the shade or sun we were looking for. Delicious ceviche, salads and burgers, among other choices, along with cocktails, are available from attentive staff who check in at good intervals whether at the beach or pool. We enjoyed the a la carte restaurant choices for dinner, especially the Mexican, and found most dishes met our expectations for fine dining. The buffet restaurant Azul didn’t seem to be open for dinner most nights, but for us, this didn’t matter as we prefer table service. We left the resort for a rhythms of the night Cirque style dinner and show one evening by boat, and dinner in Puerto Vallarta another ($20 cab ride), and otherwise were happy to stay onsite. Our master suite ocean view had a couch, table and chairs, jacuzzi tub and separate shower, double sink, and king sized bed, as well as balcony with chairs and a lounging area. The mini bar included snacks, and there was a Nespresso machine with dark, medium and decaf capsules offered, as well as a bottle of Mezcal. At no point did it feel too busy, and the guests were a mix of couples and families. While we’ve only tried all inclusive twice before, we wouldn’t hesitate to visit this resort again, and it vastly surpassed our other experiences.
I took my family to this resort in January. I came in with very high expectations and was met with the most relaxing but fun at the same time. We would go back in a heart beat. All of the people there were super helpful and kind making it a stress free trip.
