How to Get There
It's a pleasure to review a hotel with such great service. We had a wonderful ocean view, quiet room and excellent service from every department!
The Tour Concierge, Alem and the Concierges Alexis and Daniel were especially helpful, as were the bellboys/valets Manuel and Victor.
We opted for the 'package' that included Breakfast each day and were so pleasantly surprised and pleased with the superb service in the dining room ... Every day! After a few days, the staff knows what you like and they bring favorite breads and juices to your table within a minute of your seating. We were fortunate to have a table by the window every single morning and it was a great start to every day. The suites are exactly as shown on the website...you get what you see and select.
It is a very quiet hotel and the pools are lovely, though we did have to settle for chairs sometimes instead of chaise lounges when we were late arriving at the pool.
We enjoyed Happy Hour at the Gin Joint Bar at the top of the hotel and thought their guacamole was delicious! The service at the tables in the bar is slooow and that was surprising, given the great service elsewhere in the hotel.
This hotel is on a hill with spectacular oceanviews. It is not a walkable distance to downtown, which we didn't mind at all because they offer 2 free shuttles every day and the taxi ride was around $5. We would have liked a few more non-water options for tours, as we heard from others on our return trip that there are cooking tours and house tours available. But, we are anxiously awaiting a time when we can return to this hotel!
This property is as stunning as the pictures show, the rooms are large and clean. If you want to come to a place that is in the middle of nowhere with no day or night life, this is the place. In order to do anything other than lay at the pool you have to leave. I feel it may have once been a 5 star, but now it's a 3 dressed up as a 5. They don't offer robes anymore or even little things like nail files in the room and every time you turn around someone has their hand out. The food is OK, but not worth the price. Unless you are looking to be the only people at the resort, I'd suggest something different.
We had booked a Junior Suite which, according to the hotel's web site, would like all other suites, have a panoramic ocean view from the terrace. The first suite we were allocated had a swimming pool view only. The second a partial panoramic ocean view and eventually the third one had a panoramic ocean view from one corner of the terrace.
The hotel tried to make us buy an upgrade to a suite with a real panoramic ocean view.
We did not go for it.
The A/C in the reception area and in the breakfast restaurant was too cold. We asked to have it lowered. Sometimes, they did it, sometimes they did not. We ended up ordering breakfast from room service and paying extra in order not to feel that we were having breakfast in Siberia.
Staff certainly follow management's instructions. However, we felt that they were overdoing it. Real class is when all the attention is there for you without really noticing it. Here, in the end, it got on our nerves.
The hotel is located in the hills. The hotel has two shuttles into town in the morning and one back at 5 pm. Taxis are cheap, but the ride is a bit bumpy on account of the condition of the streets in the hills.
Apart from that, the suite was nice and spacious. The dinner restaurant was nice and the food was good.
We spent six nights at the Grand Miramar PV for the sole purpose of relaxation and getting away from the downtown Puerto Vallarta crowds and it was mission accomplished! To start, the views are awe inspiring and the rooms are modern and well appointed. But this review is about service. Every member of the staff are pleasant, helpful, and accommodating from the moment you arrive. Maid/cleaning service is impeccable. Room service (food) is timely, fairly priced, and laid out on your table when it arrives. Chocolates and water delivered each evening with turn down service? Why yes and thank you! Our best service experience however occurred on the pool deck where we spent a good portion of our days. Most of our days our drinks by the pool where brought by Raul who was friendly, attentive, and downright fun. He was always a pleasure and spot on. Ariana was also an angel and always available when we needed our refills. Even on days when we only saw her at breakfast, she took the time to talk to us and make us feel like we mattered. My rock star however was the pool concierge Dominique. In addition to always being available to guest’s poolside needs (towels, chairs, cushions etc.) he was always smiling, helpful and accommodating. On one occassion, when we had asked to see if they could pull up a specific soccer game for us at the jacuzzi bar TV (yes I said jacuzzi bar) after discovering that the game was not on the channels they carried, he found it on his phone and actually left it at our table for us to watch. He offered to do it again on another day when a different game was not being shown. Who does that? Anyway, yes we will return because we could not have asked for anything more. Very relaxing, very beautiful, and service beyond compare!
It is hard to conceive the trouble it must have been to build such a spectacular place in such an inaccessible location. The cobblestone roads that lead up to the top of the hill twist back and forth endlessly, up, up, up. Following the signs, we kept saying, “Another turn?” The taxi driver had never been here before and was as amazed as we were. Once there we discovered it was well worth the trip (unless you want waves lapping at your doorstep). It is rare to find this much drama and comfort for such a reasonable price. Wait for specials on the internet for much less than the posted prices. The rooms are not very large, but the views are incredible. We were served breakfast in a glass room that similarly looked out to the expanse of the water, way down below us. Of course, the downside is that you would need to be an Olympic athlete to try to walk here from the Romantic Zone. There is a hotel shuttle, but it is sporadic. Apparently, the taxis complained, wanting to get the business for themselves. And so they do. Of course, taxis here in Puerto Vallarta are very reasonable, so that isn’t a big problem. In fact, it would be tempting to just stay here and never venture away. I could see sitting out on the balcony and writing a book. In my dreams. The photos show much more than words can describe.
