Boho-rustic charmer in Puerto Vallarta’s Romantic Zone, close to both the river and the Pacific Ocean

The Lowdown

Forget minimalism: This jewel box of a boutique sleep overlooking Puerto Vallarta’s Rio Cuale is a riot of gem tones, rich textures and eclectic art and antiques. Guests are invited to make themselves at home, whether lounging poolside, dining on the leafy terrace, kicking back in the vibrant lounge area (with its burnt orange walls and arresting art) or feasting on croissants, fruit and coffee in the cozy kitchen — which features a 1930s Portuguese tiled wall and a show-stopping chandelier. Each of the eight guestrooms sports its own unique feel; some have intricate stained glass from Santa Cruz Church, others antique Spanish Colonial wooden doors, carved headboards and balconies, while all have King beds and views of the river or the tranquil pool and terrace.

In the Area

Explore the Romantic Zone south of the Rio Cuale, with its cafés, restaurants and local color, and make sure to drop by the famous Old Town Farmers Market, which peddles home-grown produce along with handmade crafts, jewelry and artisanal goods. Then head to El Malecon, an oceanfront promenade dotted with artworks that’s also great for people watching. Don’t leave town without getting out on magnificent Banderas Bay, known for its sublime whale watching; sign up for a boat tour with Vallarta Adventures from December to March to see the awe-inspiring humpback whales that make this bay their playground each season. To see why this town is considered one of the essential gourmet destinations in the country, book a table at one of its most feted restaurants, Café des Artistes, which fuses European techniques with Mexican flavors.

Great Hotel!
Reviewed 8 hours ago

This is one of my favorite places to stay in PV! The amenities, location, service, and food make it a great place for a weekend or two week stay.

Rigo and staff took care of all of my needs and requests, including arraign transportation to and from the hotel, recommending the best places for meals, and ensuring my stay met expectations.

Great little boutique hotel
Reviewed 2 days ago

The hotel is great for anyone who prefers to stay in small familiar places. Staff is super friendly and helpful, especially Fernando, who accompanied us to San Francisco and helped us with directions. Thank you very much :-) Rooms are nice and clean and ours particularly was huge. Pool is great too. Very recommendable!

Location, Location, Location, with a few Quirks and Charm
Reviewed 3 days ago

As most people have said, yes this place has charm, and the rooms are very unique. Things we loved: small pool that is actually cool that hasn't had people peeing in it all day :) Israel and Geraldo are simply outstanding. They provided great recommendations for the area, Geraldo made an excellent Margarita and both provided excellent conversation. There are roughly 17 rooms here, so this is definitely a quieter stay. It is important to know about the location being close to the river. Yes there are bugs, birds, and geckos. We initially had a room directly next to the river and there was a gecko in our room chirping until 4AM. That did not make for the ideal sleeping situation, so we changed rooms away from the river, but 2 days later, another chirping gecko at night. Some say it is good luck, it was more of a nuisance for our sleep. As one of the staff members put it, "if you stay here it is natural." Even with that, I could not have asked for a better location in the Romantic Zone. It is a 10 minute walk from anything you could ever want. Malecon, Beach, Bars, Clubs all within minutes of this location. Quirks included: there is no staff on site after 10pm. You are given the phone number of a person to call if you need anything after hours. You can get your own beers and make your own cocktails at the "honor bar" which then means you just write down what you drink and are billed for it at the end. There are a couple windows in the bathrooms that could provide for visibility of others to see you. If you have been to PV a few times and love the Romantic Zone, and exploring the great restaurants and bars that this city has to offer, this place hits the mark on many levels. Summer is a much less busy time of year, and a basic king room goes for roughly $50 a night on Expedia, you just can't beat that.

Wonderful Stay at Del Rio
Reviewed 3 days ago

My husband and I recently visited Garlands Del Rio, last week. We stayed 6 nights in the room, Ariel. Jerry was our host while at the hotel, and he took great care of us! I wondered if he and the staff slept by our third night there, because everyone was so attentive.
The hotel is located in a great location to many restaurants, the church, beach, and other shops that are on the city tour. It is also within walking distance to food stands, and shop.
The pool and hot tub were both nice features. I love the river in the back of the hotel near the hot tub. It is a relaxing view, and the margaritas were a nice touch.

I will be staying again when I return.

Wonderful, Charming Boutique Hotel with Outstanding Service!
Reviewed 6 days ago

This hotel was a wonderful discovery! We visit PV at least once a year and decided to stay at a new hotel this time. From the moment we arrived until we checked out we couldn't have been happier with the service. We were welcomed with a drink and chips & guacamole. Jerry was our attendant and he was simply the nicest guy you'll meet. He led us to our Penthousecita (took our luggage for us) and then showed us our room and how everything worked (a/c, tv, safe, etc). He gave us his personal number in case we needed anything while we were there. You don't know the hotel is as large as it is from the street until you open the black gate and step inside a charming courtyard. It backs up against the river - it's a lovely view as you're having a bite to eat on the patio. It's in a great location - a short walking distance to the beach; pharmacy around the corner, restaurants a short walk away. We would definitely stay there again. Upon check-out they even checked us in on our airline and printed out our boarding passes! Everyone there simply is outstanding when it comes to customer service! Thanks for a great time!
