How to Get There
I have given this Hotel a 5* rating because of my personal experience with a lot of different aspects of our stay. Sometimes that's all you need, a good personal experience!! The Hotel is not on a huge complex. It’s intimate but also spacious enough. It's secure, clean and gardens are well manicured. They have a mini supermarket and a fashion shop and a cash machine. The friendly wild-life roaming the grounds is great to see. The Staff are friendly.
Our room was fantastic. We were welcomed with Chocolate dipped Strawberries and a nice bottle of Red wine which was a fabulous touch to find in our room. My kids ate all the chocs and i kept the wine bottle in the fridge which i sadly forgot there. Would have loved to bring it back home to London. We had the double bed studio room which was huge. The balcony was huge and the view was amazing which viewed both the first pool and the ocean in the distance. The room was quiet and was cleaned regularly although the cleaning got later and later. But overall it was cleaned well.
There were only 2 restaurants. Generally the food at Andreas Restaurant had more elegant in choice than the La Ribera. But then again it could be because our room was closer to Andreas so we found it closer to get to. We ate at La Ribera too but still preferred Andreas. Both restaurants had great ice cream and sweet choices.
I must mention the Chef/Manager Miguel at Andreas. He had the best work ethic of any chef i have met and his staff have taken this up too. He has attention to detail and takes any comment about his restaurant very seriously and will go to great lengths to train his staff and please the customer. He is a great asset to this hotel. Supervisor Omar is a great support to Miguel. He is a great people person who kept things running smoothly. Some other great waiters were Benito and Raul.
La Ribera made great snack foods like tacos, burgers, pizzas.
There is also a good Crepes counter in reception area. The lady who served us that day should maybe take great care to cover the fruits. Overall, it was fresh and delicious.
Pools & Beach
The pools were great, clean and not over populated when we were there. My kids loved the lazy river. There is a swim-up bar. Some of the sunbeds and tables by the pagoda could have used a clean. Loved the beach as it seemed private. There's was always a waiter around to take your drinks order.
We enjoyed the Zumba class very much. My kids loved the kids area. We didn't get to see many evening shows apart from the Spanish dancers. However, the highlight for us was the Mime artist. He was a hit and got the kids and some audience members involved in the show. We love it.
This hotel has great management under Juan Carlos Lopez Ruiz. I found him very personable, friendly and approachable. He kindly invited my family to see the baby turtles go into the ocean and we were sorry to miss it as we got held downtown following the pouring rain. His staff speak to him about every aspect of the hotel so he will likely be aware of any situation that crops up. I'd like to thank him for looking after us.
Would i recommend this hotel or come back here? Definitely!!!
Velas Vallarta is a beautifully maintained property. The only complaint is regarding the pop-ups on the beach that are very ugly and block the ocean view. They are heavy-duty pop ups and are an eye sore for this property. The ocean was very warm and had few waves which was nice for swimming, but in the afternoon, the river gets released into the ocean and you can literally see the brownish water meeting the blue water. This again is more of an eye sore that leaves some debris. The food is good, but there are only two restaurants, three if you are there during busy season, but that 3rd restaurant is set up in a banquet room. The beachfront restaurant is nice in that it offers off the menu and buffet. The buffet is limited but offers enough for someone not looking for a large breakfast. The all-inclusive lets you do buffet and order off the menu too though! The 24-hour room service is a huge perk! Especially if you have kids. We did this at least 3 times and the food was delivered to the room quickly and was set up by the room service person. You can even order just a pitcher of margaritas if you want! The snack food and drinks in the room were stocked daily based on your consumption too. The only thing that was hard to understand was the dress code requirement for the restaurants. Men had to wear collared or nice t-shirts, but the women could literally dine in a bikini top. Didn't really understand that. Otherwise, a great property near the lighthouse marina which also has great shopping and restaurants that you can get to easily by taxi or a short 10-15 minute walk. I would stay here again and recommend it as well for those looking for a nice resort with great service and good food!
This place is truly amazing! The staff was impeccable and really made you feel like home! This place doesn’t disappoint when it comes to service. We loved Andrea and the staff. Enrique and Benito gave just a wonderful service during our breakfast and Francisco attended to our needs during our evening dinner! All the staff remembers you by name and never fails to smile when u pass by. Also, the turn down service is always on point! We can’t wait to come back next year!!! The restaurant by the beach gave us the same service. It made our first experience together in Mexico one we will truly remember !
