This 80-room all inclusive has the feel of a secluded estate, with lush gardens, a private beach club, and golfing facilities within view. Expect sunny, traditional Mexican décor–terracotta floors, bright pops of yellow, and cheerful ceramic sculptures by Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante. Dining is either casual Mexican-inspired cuisine served on a terrace by a tranquil koi pond, or Asian-influenced dishes overlooking the Pacific Ocean. (There’s also a decadent swim-up pool bar, with endless cocktails included in the room rate.) The hotel is located minutes from several world-class golf courses.
In the Area
Hit the fairway your way, whether at the Joe Finger-designed Marina Vallarta Golf Course, with its magnificent bayside setting and mountain backdrop, or the stunning Spanish Colonial-style Vista Vallarta course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. If putting isn’t your thing, hit the much-loved Old Farmer’s Market in downtown Puerto Vallarta, where you can browse everything from Mexican chocolate to artisanal cheeses and home-made salsas.
How to Get There
Casa Velas is truly a special resort and it keeps getting better. If you are looking for a place to relax with beautiful rooms, amazing food, and great cocktails where you will be treated with incredible service this is it. Somehow Casa Velas has found a way to keep improving. While we have always thought that the service and food are outstanding we feel that this year was even better. The menus are improved and the choices were truly wonderful. We especially enjoyed the Chef's Table and paella at the Beach Club. Special thanks to Gabriella, Geraldine, Victor, Benny, Ramon, Manuel, and Gerardo who made our stay extra special. It's so nice to see the same people year after year and is a testament to the Velas organization. When you arrive and you are welcomed with "Welcome Home" they truly mean it.
This is the fifth visit to meet friends from various locations in the US. I must say, all were not disappointed. For seven days we expected and received exceptional service.
The ambiance was as great as one would expect, maybe a bit better. The food and the service was beyond compare; even the vegan menu.
Cleanliness, a ten.
The new manager was eager to please and gracious.
We will return next year, we already made reservations.
I have been traveling to PV for many years and have stayed at countless resorts/hotels. Casa Velas is my new PV favorite.
We stayed at CV the last week of January in room 302. We arrived around 1:30pm and our room wasn't ready yet, so we changed into our swimwear, left our luggage with the bellman and started enjoying the facilities.
The location of our room was ideal. The "Grand Class Suite" was spacious and laid out well. The bed was extremely comfortable. The plunge pool on our balcony stayed warm all day. Others at the resort who did not have a room in the main building complained they were not able to use their plunge pool due to the cold water. The room was stocked with snacks and drinks each day. Housekeeping was very efficient with daily cleaning and turndown service. I left $5usd tip in the morning, $2usd tip in the evening and $1usd in the refrigerator each day for the person who stocked it.The minor "complaints" I have regarding the room are one day in the late afternoon/early evening there was no hot water to shower. Also, the hanging clothes rod in the closet is very small. We weren't able to hang all of our clothing. We ordered room service twice, once for dinner and another time to enjoy wine in our room. Both times the orders were accurate and prompt.
Emiliano's had excellent food and service. I enjoyed filet (which I didn't even need a knife to cut), roasted chicken, eggs benedict, etc. My husband enjoyed a variety of seafood including lobster pasta, bacon wrapped shrimp and sea bass. I am allergic to seafood and shellfish so I wish they had more non-seafood dinner options, as the menus were heavy seafood. We went to "Caribbean night" at the Beach Club and the only item on the menu that wasn't seafood is filet. The chef did make me a garden salad since I wasn't able to order anything else. It would be nice if there were some pasta options on the menu, such as lasagna or chicken parmesan. Breakfasts were consistently good, but I did find the food at the breakfast buffet not always hot enough.
We used spa services for a therapeutic massage and pedicure. We had a room credit of $50, so the price of an 80 minute massage was just $115, very reasonable for a resort.
We spent mornings at the Beach club and afternoons at the main swimming pool, as the main swimming pool didn't warm up until the afternoon. I was hesitant about staying at a resort which is not beachfront, but a quick shuttle gets you to the beach within a few minutes.
Service was outstanding throughout the resort. We did tip for good service and encourage others to do so as well.
The overall vibe of Casa Velas was serene and quiet. The age range is 30's-80's with the average patron being in their 60's. I am in my 40's and did feel like one of the youngest vacationers.
We are already considering returning to Casa Velas in the fall. We'll even request the same room again. Everything from the rooms to the food to the service to the vibe is very appealing. I highly recommend Casa Velas, as it is the best in Puerto Vallarta.
We have always had a great time but this year is so stoic and such a disappointment. Room is not what we paid for and they said occupancy was at 85% so we had no recourse. (Here for a week but won’t pay 5,000.00 for this). Dead palm fronds laying on the ground outside our patio. Live rat traps out in the open between rooms on the walkways. Dinner reservations tonight at 7 PM, finally left at 9:15 and I couldn’t cut my meal with a butter knife! What the heck?? Such a disgrace and disappointment today. Will try to find a way to get a refund and leave. I have never seen Casa Velas like this!

Returned to what we consider our second home once again. We see those scrolled gates and heaven begins. Up the beautiful driveway to the stunning entrance, into the lobby which is like an elegant living room. Check in went simple and smooth as usual. No muss, no fuss just bring on the pampering and tranquility. Fresh cool scented hand cloths to freshen up and a nice welcome drink. Tranquility is taking over our scenes.
We are given room 519, one of my favorite suites. It is a "Wellness suite" . It is a perfect room for us as it is near the parking lot so we have easy access to our car. You enter via a small walkway like at a house, enter into what could be a, condo plus. Thru the door is a foyer with a stairway to the right and a half bath to the left. Very convenient. Straight ahead is a living room with a large screen TV, with all your registration info on it and lots of channels, an L-shaped cozy comfy couch, coffee table and nice decorations. They have combined old world charm of Mexico with contemporary features, so harmoniously. To the right of the living room is the dining room, which has a table with 4 chairs and a lovely personalized welcome platter, ( cakes, candies, veggies, always different) wine and glasses or champagne and a lovely welcome card from the manager.
Continuing straight out from living room and dining room are sliding glass doors. On the living room side is a private plunge pool, and on the dining room side a patio with a table and chairs and a private massage table for having massages right on your patio.
In the dining room heading to the front of the unit is a kitchenette or coffee area. There is a pod coffeemaker, and a mini bar with wellness drinks, like Perrier water, Fuji water, coconut water, you name it. Also a tray with glass containers of healthy snacks like pumpkin seeds, almonds, pistachios, cranberries, and so on.
No, there is no cooking facilities and you would not need any, with restaurants on site, and 24 hour room service. Your wish is their pleasure.
Onward and upward as they say, so upstairs we go. A curved winding staircase leads to the bedroom. A large room with king size bed, 2 side tables, windows on both sides, your own stationary bike, small weights and a yoga mat. Another large screen TV and yet another minibar, with beers, sodas and waters. A snack tray with the good, but not so healthy snacks like chips & cookies. Both minibars and snack trays are replenished daily. An armoire with wooden hangers for closet space and 3 draws.
Oh yes, we could surely live here, but we are not done.. off the bedroom is an expansive bathroom with separated toilet, double raised sinks, more closet space, a safe, iron, hairdryer, and a huge marble shower with handheld or rainfall shower. Yes the bathroom is bigger than many folks bedrooms. Both bathrooms have lighted magnifying make up mirrors, plenty of plush towels, hand towels and face cloths. They also have L'Occitane amenities like shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower caps, shower kits , toothbrush and toothpaste kit, nail kits, cotton pads, and a specialty soap like oatmeal and honey or such. There is not much more you could want for, everything is replenished daily. Yes there is even a scale which registers in pounds or kilos, do you dare? Of course a full length mirror, an absolute necessity.
Off the bathroom, just up two steps is a door which leads to yet another balcony with a couple of lovely chairs, surrounded by bougainvillea and palms and a corner jacuzzi.
We are in our home away from home so we unpack quickly and let the relaxation begin.
Our suite is in what is called the village, so walking around is a pleasure such beautiful grounds, walkways, plants and yes even peacocks.
To head to the main building you can go up a flight of stairs outdoors, walk up driveway or take an elevator up one flight.
The lobby is a nice gathering area or just a spot to relax. The front desk is there if you should need change or have questions and also the concierge area. Off the lobby is also a sitting area with a TV and couches where you can lounge and be served drinks of your choice. Outside the lobby is another outdoor lounge where drinks are served. We enjoy sitting out there nightly after dinner having nightcaps and just listening to nature or meeting other guests. They offer nightly entertainment in this lounge area like singers and also some activities, like tequila tasting, cocktail making so on.
There is a lovely small boutique near the lounge and also you can walk the hall to the spa. The gym is also in that area but down on the pool level. It is a great gym with lots of machines, weights and such a tranquil area looking out at what seems to be a tropical jungle.
The pool area is just lovely surrounded by palm trees and a golf course beyond. The pool is large and has many different levels with a peninsula in it as well. There is a palapa covered swim up bar, lots of lounge chairs, and some covered cabanas. Towels are on chairs and water and menus are brought when you are seated. They have a nice menu with poolside drinks and food, ( some of my favorite foods by pool are the onion rings, Shrimp Burrito, Apple walnut salad), served at your lounger or you an go to Emiliano restaurant. We enjoy lunch by the pool frequently.
If you want the ocean then just ask for a shuttle van in lobby and they will promptly bring you over to the Ocean club about 3 minutes away. We like to walk for the exercise and also it is such a lovely area/neighborhood. Again scrolled gates and you enter the Ocean Club up a long driveway. You can look straight thru the entrance to restaurant, infinity pool and ocean. A private ocean club or oasis. Here you can dine for lunch or dinner, Asian infused menu with some other options, great drinks. Loungers by pool and cabanas or down on the beach. Service is at both places. Being a private ocean club it is just so peaceful and relaxing, a must visit during your stay.
Did I mention you also have use of their sister resort Velas Vallarta again just 3 minutes away by shuttle on the ocean with two restaurants and poolside service. Love this resort as well for family oriented vacations but be warned after a few days at Casa Velas Adults Only, it can be over stimulating over at Velas Vallarta though maybe a reminder of how peaceful and unique a place you are staying at. We visited friends who were staying there a few afternoons and had a lot of fun in a lively atmosphere. They have some great pizza on site, so we did have lunch and some drinks. They offer a fabulous Mexican Fiesta on Sunday nights if you are so inclined.
The restaurant on site, Emiliano's, is in levels, tiered with live music nightly and themed menus ( such as Mexican night, Italian night, French night, Surf and Turf) nightly or the regular menu. It is all the finest food with the freshest ingredients possible and yes you can order as much as you like. Presentation and service are always exceptional. Dinners are a slow relaxing, many course meals, if you so desire, as we do. To top off this beautiful venue, you can if you wish dine outside, overlooking the many Koi ponds with pool in the background...so very romantic. We had such foods as Beef Filet and Tenderloin, , Cold Avocado soup, Chicken Breast stuffed with spinach and cheese, Beet and Peach Salad with goat cheese, Escargot, Confit Duck, Rack of Lamb, Short Rib, Beef Carpaccio, Pumpkin Cream Soup, Salmon with olives, garlic and bell peppers, Avocado and Passion Fruit Sorbet, Green Apple sorbet, Hibiscus and Roses Sorbet, Shrimp Cocktail, Creme Brulee to name a few of our favorites. The list could go on. We are not wine drinkers so we cannot comment on the quality of wines but they have a long list and I can comment on mixed drinks, martinis and Tequila drinks all top shelf and wonderful usually made by the ever present and fantastic "Benny", the bartender.
We spent our time here, enjoying the room, we do tend to make use of our rooms when they are lovely. Walking around the property and neighborhood. Hanging by the pool on site, heading over to the Ocean Club where we had some great guacamole, Kao Pad Sapport with julienne veggies with rice, cashews, curry, raisins, pineapple, and shrimp over a pineapple slice, my favorite. My husband loves the Shrimp Burger with caramelized onions, chipotle dressing, and French fries, there, some other favorites are the Shrimp rolls filled with crab, & Baby Calamari. Such great days are at Ocean Club. Visiting Velas Vallarta and friends.
We spent most of our time on site as we had been in PV proper the week before so this was our pampering , chill out time and it was a wonderful experience as always.
Everything from soup to nuts, to amenities to service are top notch and we for sure will be back. Have yet to find an adults only resort that compares in Vallarta.
