This 80-room all inclusive has the feel of a secluded estate, with lush gardens, a private beach club, and golfing facilities within view. Expect sunny, traditional Mexican décor–terracotta floors, bright pops of yellow, and cheerful ceramic sculptures by Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante. Dining is either casual Mexican-inspired cuisine served on a terrace by a tranquil koi pond, or Asian-influenced dishes overlooking the Pacific Ocean. (There’s also a decadent swim-up pool bar, with endless cocktails included in the room rate.) The hotel is located minutes from several world-class golf courses.
In the Area
Hit the fairway your way, whether at the Joe Finger-designed Marina Vallarta Golf Course, with its magnificent bayside setting and mountain backdrop, or the stunning Spanish Colonial-style Vista Vallarta course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf. If putting isn’t your thing, hit the much-loved Old Farmer’s Market in downtown Puerto Vallarta, where you can browse everything from Mexican chocolate to artisanal cheeses and home-made salsas.
How to Get There
My wife and I just returned from a 5 day stay at Casa Velas for our anniversary. We have stayed at many all inclusive resorts (adult only and some family trips) and can’t believe it took us this long to find this gem! First time to the Pacific side and our experience was truly amazing!
Why the best in Mexico? It’s the service and quality of relaxation you get at this hacienda. Very quiet and tranquil but also some events throughout today if that’s what you want, we especially enjoyed the wine and cheese tasting! From the time you arrive when the gates open until the iguanas and peacocks are saying their farewell when you leave, you are waited on like royalty!! The food across the board is great but dinner at the beach club or Emiliano’s is a a cut above for all inclusive, they had a visiting chef and special menu with lots of options. I have a shellfish allergy and still found many meat and fish dishes to try and if you want something, just ask! They will literally go outside and cut a coconut out of a tree if that’s what you want (muchos gracias Ramon!)
We spent one day at the pool at the property but most other days at the beach club, it’s a short shuttle ride and we never waited more than 3 minutes for a ride. July is the “rainy season” but it rained one night and one afternoon during our whole stay, the rest was beautiful sun with some clouds. Ramon and Daniel at the beach club made us feel like family, top shelf drinks (and food if you want) delivered to you in the infinity pool while you enjoy the view of the waves and Sierra Madre mountains in the distance. We also did dinner one night at the beach club, menu is a little less than Emiliano’s but it was delicious and they have themed nights (Mediterranean, Italian, etc). You don’t want to miss an opportunity for a sunset picture at the beach club.
Thanks to Geraldine and her staff for an amazing trip and experience, we will be back.
-We had a room with a plunge pool, it was pretty warm like bath water so we never used it, coolest temperature pool is at the beach club, and has best view!!
-We went to Grand Velas about 20 min away for dinner one night, ate at Lucca where we had the most amazing Italian dinner that would rival a 5 star restaurant in the states. Ask the concierge if they can arrange this and the shuttle for you
-You can walk down the beach about 10 minutes from the beach club and go to Velas Vallarta, bigger pools and some other restaurants, also have ATM in pesos and dollars in the lobby
-Tipping: we followed the same guidelines as a cruise line basically (housekeeper, waiters, bartenders, luggage steward etc). They bring you a bill just for signature and we always tipped, but your level of service doesn’t change, it was just our way of acknowledging their efforts.
-we are not golfers but met a couple that were really into it, they played every day (they said 3 different courses to choose from and all you pay is cart + rental clubs if you didn’t bring yours). Said the courses were comparable to normal community courses in the states.
Some other special people that made our trip so amazing!
-Benny at the lobby bar in the evening, makes a great Gin Martini and will keep you laughing!
-Pablo, Bernadino and Alfredo at Emiliano’s, 5 star service whether breakfast lunch or dinner
-Visiting Chef Humberto who had awesome dinner creations and came out and talked to us twice!
-Fredy at the pool bar
-Marisol taking care of our room and the little “extras”, including organizing my wife’s shoe collection every night
-Brian, Jose and Rogelio at the front desk- always catered to our every request
Thanks again Casa Velas, there is a reason why your hacienda is highly rated and it shows! ¡Hasta luego amigos!
My Husband and I stayed at Casa Velas the first week of June this year for our Honeymoon. Neither of us had been to Mexico let alone an All Inclusive package. Before our departure several people had warned us in regards to using an all-inclusive package and the cons associated with it. We purchased our package from Costco Travel and we were excited for the adventure regardless of what others had experienced on their own vacations.
Mexico is very hectic. Best advice for any new travelers, don’t be rude, but get outside as quick as possible – politely decline anyone that is trying to speak with you about anything. Those time share salesman are sharks and can tell you don’t know what you’re doing! Outside you will see your actual ride accommodations and taxis.
The resort has great security and the guards keep track of you leaving and returning. Casa Velas is extremely beautiful. It is located on a golf course with a botanical garden and the rooms are very spacious. It’s hard to describe the experience we had here, but I can say I will never forget it. It by far exceeded any and all expectations we had for this trip and we are planning on returning this coming winter. The restaurant Emiliano is located at the resort and it is fabulous. There are so many options to choose from and order as much as you’d like! This is a very upscale dining experience and there is a dress code for men but well worth it. It is located right next to a pond and they provide different types of entertainment like a live piano player, singer, or mariachi band and dancers.
There are nightly activities and events that are held such as painting, poker night, and cigar night. I am sure we went at the perfect time but it was extremely laid back and no pressure. Very quiet and relaxing and by far the most accommodating service staff that I have ever experienced. I have experienced great customer service but this was on a completely different level. The staff at Casa Velas was genuine and sincerely desired to make your stay the best possible. I don’t know how they recruit, but they have done an excellent job and created a culture that far surpasses anything that I have ever experienced.
All of it was amazing but I do suggest going to the pool and having a snack. Their drinks are great and the snacks are pretty much full sized meals made to perfection! If you have time also try visiting the other hotel located on the beach Velas Vallarta. This is a family resort so the atmosphere is a bit different but still awesome. The Beach Club restaurant is a small and intimate dining experience offered and if you have the time definitely do it!
All in all, I will say, if I am going to Mexico the only place I would ever stay is Casa Velas or the Velas chain. Well worth the time spent researching and an experience I will never forget!
I've stayed at multiple all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. This is a wonderful smaller adults-only property!
-Very attentive, respectful, and friendly service. With a smaller property, the staff get to know the guests and their preferences better, making for a more enjoyable experience. I'd like to recognize Christian, our driver at the resort, also Ramon, Diego, Josefan, Daniel, and Pablo for the excellent service we received. We hope to see you again soon!
-Beautiful smaller property with lush landscaping, koi ponds, turtle pond (you can feed the turtles special food if you like), and a few peacocks roaming the property. Created a beautiful tropical feel to the property.
-Very quiet - it's adults only so no shrieking children. Also, there was entertainment every night but it ended around 9:00 pm every night so you didn't have to hear loud music all night.
-Food was excellent. There were visiting chefs during my stay who prepared a special menu with local favorites. The 24-hour room service had outstanding food.
-Spa on property was beautiful with fairly reasonable prices (for resort spas)
-The property is on a golf course, not on the beach. There was however a private beach club right on the beach for use by only Casa Velas guests. Beautiful infinity pool, restaurant, pool-side service, small cabanas available. There was always a shuttle waiting at the main entrance of the hotel to take us to the beach club whenever we wished to go; it was under a 5 minute drive to get there.
