How to Get There
My partner and I visited Puerto Vallarta for the first time and stayed at the Casa Cupula, as we wanted to stay at a LGBT hotel. We made a great choice staying there! The location was close enough to everything, but far enough away to not keep you up all night (pro or con depending on what you like). Major nightlife was a little over a 15 minute walk away, depending on where you were going.
The hotel had a fantastic staff. Alex checked my partner and I in. We wanted to change our room just so we weren’t directly under the restaurant. He checked the availability, got us a great room, and made sure we were comfortable. He provided us with a great tour of the premises that covered everything about the hotel. Also, Gustavo had great customer service! Any time we called for something, even something as simple as not knowing how to work the tv, he was on it promptly. Anything that we needed, he really made an effort to make sure it was taken care of. Both Alex and Gustavo provided us with recommendations for clubs, restaurants, shops, and excursions.
Los Muertos beach only a 10 minute walk away
Close to shops
Clean and modern
Great amenities with multiple pools, bars, gym, spa and massage service
A lot of steps/no elevator (definitely isn’t for the faint of heart)
A bit secluded for walking back late at night
The Casa Cupula made our first trip to Puerto Vallarta that much greater. We’ll definitely be staying there again.
Where to begin . . . . this was my husband and my first time to Puerto Vallarta and we wanted to stay at an LGBT run/friendly hotel. A friend recommended Casa Cupula so we booked. And we were so glad we did.
From the moment we stepped out of the Uber, we were treated like special guests! From the cool towels (because of the heat) and the complimentary glass of wine to taking our luggage to our room before we even knew it was gone. Check in was great. Logan took us on a tour of the hotel which helped know where everything was.
We stayed in the Frida Suite and we weren't disappointed!! Very nicely decorated and spacious with a great view from our bedroom and balcony of the bay. The bathroom was awesome with 2 shower heads (for those couples who can't agree on water temperature!) and two copper sinks!! Glad it had an in-room safe for your valuables and also a special treat to have a stacked washer and dryer which we used (and they even provide some soap!)
Stocked refrigerator with all kinds of drinks. Water is purified throughout the facility so no need to worry about drinking from the tap. Great A/C (a must in JULY) that kept us cool!
They have 3 pools and we tried all 3. All very refreshing. The new Pool Club (clothing optional) has a party going on weekends but we didn't attend. The infinity pool up top has a great view of the bay as well!
We had breakfast included and went almost every day. It was prepared great and super presentation. Hats off to the staff at Taste!!! Excellent food!
We used Uber almost exclusively and worked out great. Just a couple US dollars to take you down to the city below. You can also walk, but bring your comfy walking shoes as it's quite steep. The roads in the city are cobblestone so good shoes/sandals are a must! We were close to all the gay attractions from clubs, spa, beach, etc. All within walking distance. Felt very safe in the city as they have a vibrant LGBT community.
Over all we had a FANTASTIC stay at Casa Cupula and know you would too. The staff did an amazing job making us feel right at home. Thanks for making our trip very memorable!!!
Ok so this is a late review. Stayed here July 11-16, 2018. I guess I start this review from the time we arrived at airport until we left airport. I booked online through a package deal and called Casa Cupula to arrange for VIP pick up at airport. Make sure you read the emails that Casa Cupula sends you because I was warned. As soon as I got to the exit of the airport (shark tank area), you will be approached by all these vendors claiming to have your pick up reservation. Don’t stop even if they claim to be from Casa Cupula. Completely exit the airport and your find the actual real people who are there to pick you up. Pick up through Casa Cupula was 75 dollars for basic and 120 for VIP. My personal recommendation is exit airport (left), walk over the bridge to the other side of road and catch an Uber for 5 dollars.
Once you get to Casa Cupula you will be greeted by a amazing staff that addresses any concern you may have. All the staff at front desk speak English and Spanish. We dealt with Logan the most and he did a great job. We were put in room 101 which caused me concern because I had previously read about this room being under restaurant and being loud. In the morning I heard the staff moving chairs but it was not to a level that it disturbed my sleep. Just be aware that room 101 and 102 are beneath the restaurant. The room was a little far from the main pool, but there was a secondary pool just outside our room. This room was nice and cozy. AC worked amazing and the TV had Apple TV and cable which was nice. Only had one issue with the local ants trying to join us on our vacation. Talked to housecleaning and they evicted all of them immediately. Guys from other rooms said there rooms were amazing.
Main Pool: They have parties at the main pool on Saturdays. Guest at hotel are free to get in. Food and drinks extra. We only got to go for an hour and had a great time. We hung out poolside for a few days and had a good time. Just my two cents, if the bartender or other staff would walk around and take orders for drinks and food poolside, it would raise the level of service to match other hotels in the area. Instead I found myself walking back to the bar several times to ask for a drink, when there were less then ten people poolside.
Location: This Hotel is five minute walk from all the gay bars and beach which is great! Bad side is when you come back it’s all up hill. By day four I was over it and took a taxi back to Hotel. I’m fat and can use the exercise but with the heat and humidity I was dying. Cost 50 pesos to get back to Hotel from gay bars. To get down to the bars, walk down the hill to the main road. Carefully cross the road and head towards OXXO. Once you pass OXXO make a left on first street. That road will fork off into two roads. Either will get you down to the bars and restaurants. Take advantage of the shuttle service the hotel offers. That is also a great way to get down hill.
Taste Restaurant: Only had breakfast here one day. Breakfast was bland so we stuck with all the amazing places down the hill.
Currency exchange: When I left it was 19 pesos per dollar. Hotel will exchange at 17 pesos per dollar. I always recommend using the bank ATMs. They always give you almost actual exchange rate. As for fear of having your credit card skimmed, mine has been skimmed at least ten times in USA and never in Mexico.
Trip back to airport: Though I paid for VIP service to and from airport I got Uber level service. I talked to Logan about this and he refunded a portion of my money for this. I appreciated that he addressed this immediately. There was no hassle, he admitted their error.
Hopefully this helps other travelers.
Loved our stay at Casa Cupula and would very likely consider staying again on future trips to PV. Very friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms (stayed in the greenbelt suite), and a fun pool. The hotel itself located fairly close to the Zone Romantica, it's an easy downhill walk although take a cab back up the steep hill (well worth the 50 pesos).
Had an amazing experience starting from the receptionist to the staff at the restaurant and the gym area all very nice and clean, I must say it’s a great place to stay , everyone is super friendly and felt at home .. it’s a must to come back to Casa Cúpula
