Climb every mountain and ford every stream, they say – and if you need a place to start, Snowflake Inn is a good one to consider. Rivers to cross (OK, maybe by canoe)? White Mountains galore? This TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence-winning bed-and-breakfast’s got both, either right in its backyard or just a short drive away, plus waterfalls and hiking trails, if the first two aren’t your style. Nature calls, whether you’re inside, gazing out the windows to the sprawling grounds and gardens, or outside, following the stretch of the Wildcat River that borders the property’s six acres – and you’re going to want to answer it.
It’s not that you don’t have a choice: The inn itself is spacious and relaxing, and you’ll be more than comfortable sticking around and swimming in the jetted pool, recharging in the fitness center, snacking on your Saturday-night wine and cheese or roasting marshmallows at night over the fire. But how often can you go rappelling down a waterfall? (Ideal terrain lies within driving distance, at Great Glen Falls.) Or whitewater kayaking, which you can try on the Saco River? Not very, in most places, but here... well, don’t let the word “snowflake” fool you. This inn’s an ideal base for natural activities, all times of year.
Snowflake Inn's accommodations include 17 beautiful, individually decorated King suites. Most include a window bench or window seat and a sitting room, while all contain a two-person Jacuzzi and fireplace.
Snowflake Inn’s spa is open from 7am to 11pm each day and includes a low-lit pool by candlelight, with 18 jets and a four-foot waterfall, to help you relax. Sign up for a Swedish massage, hot-stone therapy or body polish. There’s also a fitness center with technogym equipment.
It’s easy to begin a White Mountains adventure, like hiking or horseback-riding – you’re right in the middle of the mountain range. You can also kayak the Great Glen Trails, canoe on the Saco River and fly-fish right in the inn’s backyard. Restaurants and tax-free shops and outlets are also right nearby, and the Wildcat River’s so close you can hear it from your room. Make sure to visit Jackson’s covered bridge, then stop by Flossie’s General Store for souvenirs and delicious local maple syrup.
