How to Get There
We love the area. You can do as much or as little as you want. Area restaurants are quite good. Many are quite expensive. We particularly like The Grill at the Falls at Toxaway falls and The Veranda, outside of Highlands
The townhouse is very clean & well maintained. Furniture is older. Have to drive to the resort’s pool & other activities.
Not too much is close by for activities. Great grocery store, Ingles is close! Area restaurants are good, but most of them close at 9 pm.
Condos were clean and in good shape. The furniture was somewhat outdated but clean and comfortable. the beds were great. The master bedroom downstairs had a jacuzzi and its own private deck. Great kitchen. Friendly staff. The roads "on the mountain" were something to get use too. It was so curvy it caused some anxiety but as the week progressed it was less stressful. If you love nature you will love this place. If you are planning other adventures from there keep in mind you can not plan by miles but by time since the roads are more of a challenge if not use to it.
Came up with family for a quick trip to celebrate my Mother's 90th Birthday; drive up was as expected as we were coming to the mountains so of course there will be winding roads. The townhouse itself was well appointed and suited our needs. We did wish we had luggage racks for our suitcases since we were only here for a short time and preferred to "live out of our suitcase ". Very relaxing and easy to get around and the townhouse was easy access to the main road so we could get where we needed to go without any hassle. Would stay here again!
We really enjoyed the two-bedroom condo. The property is clearly a throw-back to the late 70s/early 80s but has been nicely refurbished. In fact, it has much, much more room than most modern condos with many closets for ski or golf equipment, large bedrooms, and plenty of drawer space. (There is nothing I hate worse that stumbling all over my suitcases for a week.) All these are strong ++++ for me.
However, the location is horrible. First, as to the general location - it is in the MIDDLE OF NO WHERE and there is no convenient way to get go it. Be prepared for many, MANY miles of winding mountain roads and I do not mean the lovely scenic kind.... I mean the ones that make you car sick. And don't think, "well we won't drive them that often" because there is really nothing to do here. We chose this location because on a map it looks close to Hendersonville or Franklin, but something even 25 miles away takes well over an hour due to the LONG WINDING 25-30 mpb ROADS. Highlands is not far and had a few shops & activities, but Sapphire itself has only golf or skiing - emphasis on the ONLY, as there is no theatre, bowling alley, just nothing.....
Next, as to Sapphire Valley itself.... I just can't figure if this is an HOA thing or a town wide signage rule, but finding what is here is next to impossible because all the signs look the same - blue with white writing and they are everywhere. I've seen at least 3 signs that say "guest registration" but are all for different hotels/resorts.... too bad the signs do not have the NAME of the resorts. We ended up trying to check in at the Wyndham as a result of poor signage. It's really rather odd because you are down in the valley - there are really no views to obstruct. In fact, I have found the website photos rather misleading - our view is of trees and other buildings, and a very obstructed view of mountains which one would not even have in the summer were there leaves on the trees. Yet to see the rolling hills from the pictures, I think that must be from the golf course nearby.
Lastly, Foxhunt is really not a resort in and of itself. It seems all the hotels or resorts in the area partner with one amenities center that has skiing, tubing, vip line, pools, etc. Because of this - you guessed it - you have to drive to get to any activities as they are not nearby. So be prepared to hop in and out of the car anytime the kids want to play a video game or take a dip in the pool. On the upside, each condo does have it's own wi-fi.... Also a huge plus!
In short, if you are looking for a place to loaf around and relax or play golf, this is it. But, if you were planning to make this a home-base while you went out exploring, you would do better to pick a location closer to a major thoroughfare because this is way, WAY off the beaten path.
