The Lowdown

Donnafugata Golf Resort & Spa is situated on a spacious resort in the middle of the stunning Sicilian countryside. A careful renovation has brought a simple stylishness to its traditional, rustic buildings. It makes for an excellent base from which to explore Ragusa, a province steeped in ancient traditions and World Heritage settlements. It’s a short drive from the beautiful seaside village of Marina di Ragusa, where the hotel owns a strip of private beach (with access provided seasonally).
The property itself boasts two fantastic 18-hole golf courses – which you’ll have access to – as well as a golf academy, where players of all levels of experience and ability can get assistance in upping their game. Relax after a day on the fairways with specially designed muscle relaxing treatments in the spa, before enjoying some spectacular Sicilian cuisine in Il Carrubo restaurant.

The hotel may have been top notch once but not any more. Broken lamps in the foom are not mended, the flopr was poorly swept, the television diid not , and used glasses were not washed nor replaced. On the contrary, the restaurants are fantastic, food and service excellent. The two golf courses have suffered from the draught during summer as is the case everywhere. But the maintenance of the courses is sadly lacking.

Perfect stay - Pure luxury

Our first time in Sicily. My husband and I stayed in the hotel Donnafugata for 9 nights. We enjoyed every minute of it. The hotel is beautiful in every way. The staff are so friendly. Always chatting to us and giving us tips for where to visit etc. The room was lovely. So clean and spacious. The room maids were so friendly and every afternoon/evening they knocked on our door to check if we needed anything and to give us some Sicilian biscuits! We had a choice of restaurants within the resort. We tried nearly all of them. Amazing food! We ended up having our evening meal in the resort eight out of the nine nights we stayed. The breakfast was such a treat! So much choice and everything fresh and delicious. The hotel is a bit out of the way and so a hired car is recommended. The hotel arranged the car for us with no fuss as well as our transport from the airport and back. The taxi driver, Francesco, who drove us from the airport to the hotel told us all we needed to know about Sicily and the best places to visit. It felt like we had our private tour guide. The morning of our departure the hotel staff were waiting for us at the reception with a breakfast take-away bag as it was a bit early to eat at the hotel. They think of everything to make the guests feel welcomed and relaxed. We can’t fault Donnafugata golf & spa hotel, although we don’t even play golf but what a good opportunity to have golf lessons! We enjoyed that very much!

We loved this place from the minute we arrived and were (golf) carted in style from the carpark to our lovely room. The bathroom was bliss and we loved the Ortigia bathstuff, shampoo etc. There was a lovely view as far as the sea. We had two wonderful meals at the Bedda Mia restaurant, the best tuna tartare I have ever had anywhere. We had planned on trying out the Surf and Turf Grill but from our table at the bedda Mia we could see that it was empty. 'Our' restaurant was full both nights. Breakfast was amazing, there was absolutely everything possible on offer, lots of local produce and pastries. The pool is bliss, with its 33metres one really can swim a few lengths without turning around every fourth stroke. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here and were sad that it was only for two nights. It can be fully recommended. It goes without saying that the staff were all wonderful, friendly competent and welcoming. keep up the good work:)

Good resort let down by its restaurants

If you enjoy golf this resort has a lot to offer including two contrasting courses. In addition our room was spacious and well appointed and the resort attractive and nicely spread out to give a sense of space.
However unless you are prepared to drive out every evening you are going to use the on site restaurants. They are over priced (inevitably I suppose), but sadly the quality of the food is from average to dreadful. The steak that I had at the surf and turf was inedible, i almost choked on it. The pizza and pasta restaurant is passable but not at their prices. The high end, fine dining restaurant is again over priced and fails on several counts.
If you have a car venture out in the evenings after an enjoyable round of golf!
