Follow in the footsteps of the illustrious young Queen Victoria with a stay at Albion House – a splendid Georgian landmark perched atop Ramsgate’s East Cliff. With commanding views over the Royal Harbour, Bursting with more than 200 years of history, the property was recently restored to its former Regency glory and retains many original features – from its intricate cornices to its grand sash windows.
Take sumptuous afternoon tea, sip a coffee or enjoy something stronger in the high-ceilinged Town Bar, where dark olive walls set off framed artworks with striking effect. The light-filled dining rooms make the perfect setting for sampling some of the region’s famous seafood. Those looking for a peaceful getaway will find Albion House an excellent and stylish choice – if you needed any more proof of that, this hideaway was recommended by Condé Nast Traveller as one of the best hotels for a British weekend break and it’s now positioned as Ramsgate’s number one hotel on TripAdvisor.
How to Get There
Albion House is wonderful. A fabulous building with sea views and it makes the perfect weekend get away if you live within a couple of hours of it. We had a superking room with balcony which suited us perfectly - big bathroom too. We had cocktails in the gorgeous bar/restaurant before we went out and couldn't resist a nightcap on our return - think laid back luxury in a Georgian ballroom with a modern twist. The next morning enjoyed a really good breakfast in this fabulous room.
There is a lot going on in Ramsgate, from Regency seafront architecture to quirky cafes and shops. This town has had a rough ride in the last 50 years like so many coastal places but there is something about Ramsgate that puts a smile on your face .... and Albion House is a big part of this wave of optimism. There are lots of interesting places nearby (esp if you have a car) from Sandwich to Deal to Margate ... the Kent coast has bucketfuls of history and character.
When I telephoned to book this hotel I knew that this was going to be good, the lady that booked me in was wonderful and certainly made me feel like we were in good hands!
On arrival we were warmly greeted and the suite we had was amazing! The hotel is extremely clean and the staff go the extra mile!
Our entire trip was amazing and we have rebooked already for October! Dinner at the restaurant was really nice too
Totally recommend this hotel, it has a totally family feel and we were really impressed!
An absolute gem. Right on the front with amazing sea views. Recently renovated to a high standard and chic throughout. Charming staff and great food. Ben and his team do a wonderful job.
And Ramsgate is a delight. Lots to see and do: Regency architecture, the beach, harbour, cliff top walks, local history and some lovely restaurants.
Top floor room. Great views, lovely room - extremely comfortable bed and linens. Staff lovely, welcoming and helpful. Vegetarian breakfasts - very good, highly recommend the parsley puree which came with mushrooms, spinach and poached egg.
We only stayed one night whilst visiting relatives in Ramsgate but this is now our hotel of choice in Ramsgate. It is a small (14 rooms), boutique hotel on top of the East Cliff overlooking Ramsgate harnour and the sea. The hotel oozes history (built in 1791). Queen Victoria stayed at the hotel when she was Princess Victoria before her coronation.
The decor, furnishings and whole ambience is stylish.
The staff are very friendly. Peter the night manage or night porter was particularly welcoming.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, as was breakfast.
All in all everything was perfect. We have already booked a return visit.
It is definitely worthwhile visiting the hotel and restaurant and having a look.
