Place to stay when in the area

Quaint hotel that is not your everyday hotel. Lots of history and good place to stay. Staff is friendly but needs more training as many times they struggled with minor questions that could become service issues . Different answers from different people to same question. All in all I would definitely stay here again when in this area .

Excellent at every level

The rooms are comfortable and modern. The staff is friendly and courteous . We had a terrible experience with the Radisson almost across the street. This is definitely our go to for downtown. Also lots of great dining nearby.

Almost perfect

I loved everything about this hotel except for the housekeeping. The hotel is in a historic building that has been renovated beautifully. The lobby is very pretty as well as all the common areas. The hotel has more amenities than most hotels. I was very surprised to see that it had a bowling alley, martini bar, pool, spa, barber shop, restaurant, cafe and I probably left out something. Oh, there is a small gym that is adequate and they furnish it with snacks and cold water. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient. We were upgraded very nicely at check-in. Our room was actually a small suite with a balcony overlooking the river. The bed was very comfortable with great linens and pillows. Air conditioning worked very well in the bedroom area and it was very quiet. It did not work very well in the living room area but that was okay since we did not use that area. The only part of the suite that could have been better was the bathroom. It was very small and only had a shower. The towels were very plush and even robes were provided. I would have given this hotel a perfect score had it not been for the housekeeping. I stayed at the hotel for a week and not once did they vacuum. From normal use, the carpet got dirty. I complained at the front desk and they said they would tell housekeeping. Well, the housekeeper vacuumed in the bedroom but left the living room area without vacuuming. They were also very sloppy with making the bed and with cleaning in the bathroom. Used washcloths in the shower were not picked up. I think they tried to get out as quickly as possible no matter how they left the room. We had other friends staying at the hotel and they had the same complaint.

Restaurant is very pretty and food is good. The only complaint is that they charge $6 for sharing a $10 sandwich. Why? I found this a bit ridiculous especially since we ordered at least one item per person but we just wanted to share the sandwich. We had quite a bit of meals there over a one week period so I was quite upset when the waiter said it would be $6 to get an extra plate to share. Is this how you treat guests that have spent a week there?

My advice to this hotel is to work on their housekeeping and get rid of that $6 share charge which is quite tacky. If they do this, the hotel would be perfect! A lovely surprise to find such a nice hotel in this small town.
