How to Get There
I stayed here (and reviewed) the Blackhawk last year, and spent two nights here the last two days. The hotel is an upscale property and brings a reminiscence of the old glory days. The rooms are very clean and QUIET, which is VERY appreciated. they were sold out the fist night but I heard nothing from rooms above, below, or next door. I did hear the the trains this morning, but the tracks are very close. The hotel has a bowling alley in the basement with a bar, pool table, and dart board as well. This reminds me of the French Lick hotel with their basement alley. The bowling alleys were busy, so they are well used. There are several business meeting rooms, which is expected, and I saw many being utilized. When entering the hotel from the FREE parking lot, a young man offered to help us load in and he seemed to be here every time we went in or out. There also were many employees cleaning quite often. There is a concierge, but we did not visit this desk as we knew what we wanted to do in town. When we checked in we had to wait nervously as the clerk searched for the room we had reserved with the river view. She found one and we were pleased. It was a king bed room with more space, and that included a nook for business work. There was a shower and a bath tub and the bathroom was large, and immaculate. While opening the curtains, we noticed a long teat in the sheer and reported it to the desk. They were horrified that we found this had an envelope with drink tickets and bowing tickets for us, which was not expected,. The elevators were very fast and we never had to wait on it to come. The restaurant is very nice as is the attached bar. While having a drink at the bar, a tornado warning was issued and no one was concerned due to the sturdiness of the hotel as in that era buildings were solid. We could not hear the pounding rain outside while dining. One highlight is the beignet coffee shop that is in house. It is odd, but really appreciated, to be able to get beignets that are terrific along with some great coffee. I saw a gift shop and a hair salon on site as well. We had driven backwards from out stay in Springfield, IL just to stay at the Blackhawk and we hope to come back some time.
Highly recommend. Great staff. Restaurant and cafe both excellent. Try the beignets! The dinner was exceptional in the restaurant. The views are just okay. Excellent parking at no charge. Room was a bit dark but that was okay.
This is an exceptionally beautiful hotel. The staff was very friendly and very courteous while staying at the hotel. The restaurant was very accommodating on a short notice to seat my family for a graduation celebration for my son.
This is truly the only diamond hotel in Iowa and I plan a return visit in the near future. I enjoyed my room on the 7th Floor . I was impressed to learn that the most powerful political official has an association with your hotel.
The Jazz band was great on Sunday Morning. I was more than impress with your hotel and I would not stay anywhere else while in Iowa. However, I did not get a chance to truly enjoy myself at your hotel because my son graduation was on Sunday , which meant for me an early to bed and rise. Thanks for everything!
Beautiful hotel with character and every staff member was very pleasant. Our room was everything we expected and more. The bowling alley is definitely a unique hotel experience. We did not have a chance to experience the spa because they were closed both days during our stay. The hotel also offers a local shuttle and is connected to the Adler theater next door. We would welcome the opportunity to return again in the future.
The level of luxury and service during my stay was outstanding. I would definitely recommend 10/10. Special shout out to Todd, bartender by the bowling alley. He exemplifies mastery of the art of making an old fashioned.
