Serene spa retreat, surrounded by rice fields, close to Ubud's buzzy bars and restaurants

The Lowdown

Close enough to Ubud’s buzzy bars and restaurants but surrounded by lush rice fields, Plataran Ubud Hotel and Resort is a best-of-both-worlds Balinese retreat. The intimate resort has just 46 rooms, all of them fresh and light with a contemporary minimalist look that incorporates sleek wood panels, local artwork or photography and floor-to-ceiling windows. Bathroom products come in cute ceramic pots. Dine on traditional Balinese cuisine with a contemporary twist or international dishes in the resort’s restaurant (or out on the wooden deck) while you gaze out to the grounds, studded with tropical palms. Two pools — one is on an upper level overlooking the surrounding rice fields — invite you to cool off, or switch off completely with an authentic Balinese massage at the spa.

In the Area

Ubud is Bali’s cultural hub, known for its royal palace, talented artisans and fertile river valleys lined with rice paddies. When you’re not lazing about by the pool, spend an afternoon admiring Ubud’s many crafts shops and galleries, book a daytrip to go whitewater rafting down the Ayung River or recharge at one of the town’s many yoga studios. Don’t miss a visit to the Ubud Palace, especially when it’s serving as the backdrop for a traditional dance performance.

Oasis on a main street in Ubud

This is a fabulous hotel. I can’t praise it enough! Everything about it was excellent from the moment we arrived. Our lovely room overlooking padi fields and one of the pools, was on the top floor above the restaurant and was accessed by a glass elevator. The bed was very comfortable and the room spotless. The restaurant had the most superb food, an enormous choice for breakfast where I was able to indulge myself in the local dishes. The staff were always to hand to advise and were so friendly, even learning our names and always greeting us with a smile. I know it is training, but nothing ever appeared forced and hats off to the management for wonderful staff!
The gardens contained 2 lovely pools and separated the main bedroom block from the reception area which opened onto the busy street with bars and shops. This area also had the bar where afternoon tea and snacks were served. There was also live music several nights of the week. I will be back for longer next time!

Peaceful Stay: Yoga & Good Food

I recently spent an entire week at the Plataran and can say that I had an excellent experience. The hotel staff are very professional, well appointed, and are detail-oriented. The manager Fission and assistants Eni and Ayu are very professional. My recommendation is to be sure to visit the lobby for afternoon tea (4pm) and enjoy the nightly live music activities.

The hotel grounds are gorgeous. The plant life is very serene and the rice fields are peaceful. Be sure to have breakfast each morning. Nopi and her staff will make sure you are well taken care of.

Out of all the places in Ubud, be sure to stay a night or two at the Plataran. -Namaste.

Memorable stay, a city gem!

We stayed at Plataran Ubud for 3 nights, but wish we were here for the whole week! A stunning place, incredible views and the staff were very friendly. I can't fault the service at all, everyone was so kind and helpful (shoutout to our waitress for Ayu).

Location, spot on! Not far from anything, everything is a short walk away (Monkey Forest, restaurants, supermarket, money exchange and pharmacy), this hotel makes for a great base for doing any excursions around Ubud.

Our room was spacious, balcony overseeing the rice paddy field at the back and a comfortable four-poster bed. The bathroom is well stocked with everything you need, absolutely love the fact they don't use plastic bottles for shampoo/conditioner which shows great environmental awareness. I do think the bathroom could do with a little renovation to match the beautiful architecture of the building, but still very nice as is - no complaint here!

The breakfast selection was outstanding, a lot of healthy options, poached eggs cooked to perfection and a tasty omelette bar available. Dinner was a delight, very contemporary cuisine with some Balinese twists (like the calzone, odd but tasty!). There is also afternoon tea between 4-5pm, and happy hour on Wednesday evening at the Teras bar (front of reception) - cocktails were very well made.

On Tuesday morning we had to be up at 1.45am for a Mt Batur hike, the hotel made us a breakfast box to take with us with a freshly made coffee, totally unexpected! There is a 24 hour room service available.

There are 2 very clean swimming pools on the property, and a beautiful yet simple gym in a glass villa overlooking a small rice paddy garden area. I had 2 massages at the spa on the top floor - I came out feeling like new.

Plataran Ubud is well worth the stay, a very reasonably priced luxury hotel and I will definitely be staying here again on my next visit!

Peaceful Plataran- Hidden Gem

Everything about our stay at Plataran was perfect. So happy we made the decision to stay at this beautiful & peaceful resort.

This hotel had everything we needed. Two delicious restaurants - one right in the front of the hotel facing the main strip which served delicious food, played wonderful music, amazing cocktails, hookah & was a prime location for people watching. The other restaurant in the back was more peaceful, overlooking the pool & rice fields. Two totally different vibes in the same hotel which was nice for a change of pace. A delicious complimentary breakfast was served daily and it was surprisingly expansive with lots of delicious choices, which was a plus.

The location of the hotel was a pleasant surprise as well. The hotel grounds go back very far, so it’s almost like two different worlds on the property. The front of the hotel is bustling, facing one of the main strips. This was great for us because we were able to walk to many great shops, restaurants, markets, wine shops, etc. just by stepping out the front of the resort. The back of the hotel is completely different - quiet, zen, peaceful, relaxing. It was nice to have such a contrast at one hotel.

The grounds of the property were absolutely gorgeous. I did see some other reviews mentioning the geckos / mosquitos but we had absolutely no issues with this whatsoever. And did not see a single mosquito while we were there. One thing to point out: overall Bali is like a jungle, with lush, dense greenery everywhere, so of course that means insects could be present, but we have absolutely no problems. If you are really that worried about insects, etc then perhaps Bali is not the place for you.

The rooms were lovely, clean, well lit, and had all the necessary accommodations. Security was present on site at all times, making us feel very safe.

Also, the Padma Spa should not be missed. We went one night for a full body massage, body scrub & flower bath & the service was so good I came back the next morning for a facial. Amazing.

Lastly, I have to say that the staff was the most pleasant, kind, considerate, caring & accommodating staff of any place I’ve ever stayed. Everyone remembered our names & was so friendly and warm.

The only negative thing I could say about this fabulous resort was that unfortunately, we could not stay longer. But I am looking forward to returning to Ubud & The Plataran as soon as I can!
