On Bali’s southern coast, the Maya Loka is a totally private enclave with just 13 thatch-roofed villas. The secluded complex fuses modern details, including private swimming pools, with design that blends in with the surrounding tropical landscape, thanks to open floor plans, a restaurant that overlooks green rice paddies, and paths made of river stones. Close to lively Seminyak but just far enough to feel apart, the property attracts a diverse crowd that includes surfers, an international set drawn here by volcanoes and white sand beaches, and expats from around the globe who never quite got around to going home.
Bed and Bath
Each of the villas feels like a getaway unto itself, with enormous carved wood doors (secured with antique iron padlocks) that open onto soaring thatch-roofed living spaces and one or two bedrooms. The secluded plunge pools come with large terraces and chunky daybeds. The indoor-outdoor bathrooms have rain showers and huge rose petal–filled tubs. All villas offer standard conveniences such as WiFi, satellite television (plus a daily newspaper) and air conditioning.
In the evening the restaurant turns out Indonesian specialties such as gado-gado (vegetable salad with peanut sauce) and nasi goreng (prawns and egg flavored with tamarind). For those who prefer not to venture far, there are in-room spa treatments (think coconut and chocolate scrubs, aromatherapy and acupressure massages). And Seminyak has lots of European-style shopping and restaurant options. Or the staff can arrange a car to the town of Ubud, around an hour’s drive north, which is a popular wellness and yoga destination. But there’s no real need to leave the property; the focus here is on relaxation, and it doesn’t take long to totally — and blissfully — disconnect.
In the Area
Don’t miss the sacred monkeys and the Balinese tribal fire dance rites at the nearby cliffside Uluwatu temple. No trip to Bali is complete without an afternoon in the village of Ubud, about an hour away. You’ll find boutiques and painters’ studios, as well as locally made handicrafts and unique gifts at the Pasar Seni market. The resort offers wonderful dining options, but if you’re headed off-site, try one of these: Sarong is elegant and serves salmon betel leaf with shrimp and coriander; Sardine dishes up fresh seafood and organic vegetables from an on-site farm; and antiques shop–cum–bookstore Biku serves a peaceful high tea. The beachfront Ku De Ta in Seminyak is a happening spot to sip a lychee cocktail as the sun sets.
How to Get There
We have visited Bali many times & the staff at Mayaloka are what makes the place so special.
The villas are lovely and traditional with the usual lush gardens & privacy from the other villas.
The breakfast was probably the only thing that was a little boring but still very adequate.
However the staff were simply gorgeous and couldn’t do enough for us dropping us where we wanted to go in their private vehicle and attending to anything we wanted so quickly. The complimentary massage in the family package was also excellent.
I’d definitely stay there again and wish to sincerely thank the amazing staff.
Absolutely LOVED staying at the Mayaloka. Wyan and the staff were so helpful, could not do enough for you. Everything about the Villa was perfect, exceeded my expectations. The pool was great, I loved the outdoor living & traditional décor in the villa, everything was perfect.
I loved the location, about 500mtrs from Potato Head, not far from the beach (short walk through alley ways), close to Canggu and not far from downtown Seminyak, we literally walked everywhere. I really loved the quietness of the location, you would not know there were any other guests in the Villas. A cute little restaurant across the road and plenty of convenience stores everywhere (and the doughnut shop close by...YUM). Pisson Café & Coffee Cartel also not far, everything for us was within walking distance.
We loved seeing Wyatt the local dog hanging out in the lobby...looked after & cared by the staff.
We will definitely be heading back to the Malayoka Villas when we return to Bali...
The four bedroom villa with private pool was perfect for our group of 8 friends. The staff were so so friendly, polite and accommodated all of our requests. Breakfast was delicious every morning and the private pool was an added bonus in the Bali heat!
Would recommend any group to stay at the Mayaloka Villas in Seminyak!
This is a beautiful romantic peaceful and serene accommodation where staff were efficient, respective and nothing was trouble for them, the villas were sparkling clean and had everything you will need. Breakfast served in your room daily was delicious, room service food was great and I would definitely stay there again as it is in a great location in Seminyak. The hotel across the road has an incredible and cheap day spa too which is a bonus if you want a massage etc and not too far away. Treat yourself and book a villa!!!
While picking a stay at Seminyak our crieteria was to be at a peaceful place. Thus we chose Mayaloka Villa. It was a beautiful romantic villa, perfect for our first anniversary celebration. We stayed in villa no.5
This place is hardly 10mins away from the beach. You can use their shuttle to get dropped to the beach or they can help you with booking bikes on rent as well. Breakfast gets served in the villa itself so you need to select the menu beforehand. Pick your food wisely. They are very warm and helpful so don’t worry.
The lush green entrance to the villas is breathtaking. You feel deeply close to nature. The wooden door adds to the rustic charm and ambience.
The pool is 5ft+ deep across. We had a great time swimming and sunbathing. Take care if you plan to get your kids in the pool.
The living area: is very spacious; one side dining table and the other sofa area overlooking the young banana trees. It’s very soothing the eyes. I loved the big mirror placed near the sofa. Big tall mirror is always good for women :)
Bedroom: is cosy with transparent glass windows and a small reading table. We felt special seeing the beautiful flower decoration on the bed. What a warm welcome to a honeymoon couple.
Bathroom: is open and spacious surrounded with greenery. With Open shower and open bath tub one cannot ask for more. Someone rightly said “keep some room in your heart for theunimaginable”
Details like having jasmine flowers in the vase at the wash basin is very thoughtful. Its fragrance kept the mood prolific.
They also provided bathrobe so it felt really nice.
Mayaloka is a very good pick. I would rate 4.5 stars for the ambience and people. We only had breakfast here and not lunch or dinner.
