Surrounded by mature banyan and mango trees and smothered in the sweet scent of frangipani, the Diwa Club is a private annex attached to the sprawling Alila Diwa Goa Resort. Built around a large lap pool that resembles the sunken basin of a royal palace, the discreet retreat is made up of a series of colonial-style buildings with steep red-tile roofs, long, low arches and wooden balconies. The design continues inside with wooden ceilings, cream walls, bold striped scatter cushions and Indian cotton curtains in soothing, earthy tones.
Bed and Bath
A covered passage paved with striking black-and-white tiles leads to the 26 rooms and seven suites. Large tubular lamps, gleaming dark wood furniture, and throw rugs with monochrome motifs add a modern touch. And all have wall-length windows and vast bathrooms with free-standing egg-shaped tubs. Sliding glass doors open to ample balconies equipped with chairs, tables and cozy, cushioned corner sofas where you can feed or laze, or just admire the view of the emerald checkerboard of rice paddies that surround the property. The Diwa Club Suites (947 square feet) have separate living rooms and are great for honeymooners or families. All guests enjoy in-room check-in and breakfast served anytime throughout the day.
Along one edge of the sparkling pool, the Diwa’s French-style Bistro bar serves all-day breakfast, then morphs into a candlelit restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine in the evening. As part of the larger Alila Diwa complex, the Diwa Club offers guests access to the resort’s two other restaurants. With stunning views of the infinity pool, Vivo serves a luscious mix of Pan-Asian and oriental dishes, while chef Edia Cotta’s succulent menu at Spice Studio focuses on traditional northwest Indian cuisine. For an aperitif or an after-dinner tipple, make a beeline for the Diwa Ali’s Edge bar to order cocktails made with local specialty feni liqueur (cashew or coconut) and enjoy panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. When you need a spot of pampering, head for Alila’s spa, where therapists offer a range of Asian and ayurvedic treatments using the hotel’s range of sumptuous natural products.
In the Area
Ask the hotel to arrange a morning tour of Panaji’s picturesque fish market, then bring back your catch and ask the chef to prepare your favorite recipe for dinner. By now you’re feeling peckish, so make the half-hour drive to Ponda’s Tropical Spice Plantation, where you can ride an elephant and have a lunch made with fresh local ingredients and served on a banana leaf. Hop on the hotel’s shuttle bus to Majorda and spend the afternoon lazing on one of south Goa’s finest beaches. If you’re feeling more active, set out on a walking tour of old Goa’s historic house-studded alleyways, or take the two-hour ride to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, the region’s second-largest nature reserve, whose forests are home to dozens of rare birds and other exotic wildlife.
How to Get There
Transfers by Diwa mini bus easy, arrived and check in little slow but holiday pace.....had lovely loft room in Diwa wing...couldn't fault room, lovely bathroom, large comfy bed, clean. My biggest gripe is all inclusive, no-one seems to know what it includes or doesn't, bar service is slow...yet plenty of staff, no attentive enough for star rating...would expect more, in the end going up bar and not busy...just standing around. Food in main restaurant was disappointing, expected marvellous flavours, but overall quite bland. Food in Diwa was much better but couldn't use all the time under AI. Again complete confusion amongst staff, no point being in wing if can't use facilities...mad! Diwa pool nice and quiet but like others said, mud and grass on side that gets sun needs sorting, its narrow to walk to and would be tricky for anyone not great on feet. Bus to beach was easy, lovely open and unspoilt, some hassle from beach sellers, usual...but put us off returning. Had great organised day trip out, with private tour would recommend. Nothing really outside hotel.... couple of shops...don't expect a lit evening stroll anywhere. If you want to turn off for a week, fine....but I think until sort service and food...there are better choices.
I completed the 5 night detox program at Alila Dewa Hotel. It was a fantastic program led by a team of professionals and effective results in a short amount of time. The program is catered to all individuals, and covers all topics including body, mind and soul. It was led by Arjita, the Spa Manager and she was incredible!! She has created such a fabulous program that is well thought out, organized and informational - with results. Her team was also fantastic and they made me feel so comfortable. I also learned so much with them - this included, Shweta, Ajay, Vijay and all the staff providing the services (including massages and other therapies) To add to it, the kitchen staff were able incredible and provided delicious juices and soups, meals within the program. Quality ingredients and tasty! I HIGHLY recommend the detox retreat at Alila Dewa - you will not be disappointed with your experience or results. Thank you again everyone at Alila Dewa for making me so comfortable and teaching me so much. Miss you all!
We arrived at the Alila early in the morning after an overnight flight from London. First impressions were good , we were given cold towels and a drink of our choice immediately and checked in very quickly by the lovely staff. We were advised our room wasn’t ready , which we had expected anyway, so we went and chilled by the pool and had breakfast.
We were allocated our room which was just perfect , huge bathroom with walk-in rain shower and a large bath tub wardrobes and safe, no storage issues what so ever . The bedroom is large with a very comfortable oversized bed , onto the balcony there are 2 day beds , table chairs , washing rack and fan. The gardens are beautiful , the hotel is just lovely. The pool was an oasis of tranquility. Breakfast in the Bistro was lovely , you can choose from the A la carte menu it was a leisurely affair which suited us as we weren’t in a hurry. We had breakfast in the Vivo restauraunt on several occasions , which was self service but offered a great range of variety . We also had some evening meals here as well, mainly the buffet which again the food was good quality and plenty of choice. Huge thanks to Selwin who was the perfect waiter.
The beach was a 10 minute walk away, or you could use the hotel shuttle bus between 07.00am and 19.00 worked just perfectly , I used to walk in the mornings just to see local life and the beautiful kingfishers on the wires and anything else that was going on.
Several shacks on the beach our preference was Alex’s the one to the left , good food very reasonable prices, the beach was clean a few beach dogs about but harmless and no problem at all ( if anyone comes across pig dog please feed her you will now her when you see her ) . We loved our stay here the staff were brilliant and a credit to the hotel everything amounted to a very relaxing holiday which was much needed. Special mention to Sylvester for taking care off us on the 1st day , to the staff at the Bistro , Chetan , Rowan , Jason , Watti , Ashby, Marvin ( mr smiley ) Iilandro , Vishal , Subaru Collin , we miss you all and thank you so much for making our stay perfect. The lovely staff on our reception , if fact all the staff you walk around the hotel and Everyone greets you, which is so nice. We are hoping to return next year , we looked at the rooms in the main hotel and again they are beautiful not as large as Diwa club rooms but still very good.
We arrived at the Diwa at 7,30am after a long over night flight. The personal taxi ride from the airport was efficient and professional. After a refreshing drink and cold towels we were checked in quickly, due to our early arrival our room was not ready but we were made comfortable with coffee and use of the pool and sunbeds. Our request for a quiet room was met and by 10am our beautiful room was ready. Our cases were already in our room ready for unpacking. The room was beautiful, the bathroom was huge including a stand alone bath tub and walk in rain shower. The over sized bed looked out on to a shady balcony that included two day beds.
Throughout or two week stay we were treated with the 5 star attention expected of such a hotel. ALL the staff were attentive, polite and ensured our holiday was one of relaxation and a feeling of grandeur. Particular mentions must go to to Vishal, Mauvim, Wati, Chetan and Colin.
Breakfast - The Bistro offers an Al a Carte menu that has something to meet every breakfast choice and if it isn't on the menu they will create it for you. A wonderful start to every day!
Afternoon Tea - served everyday from 4pm - 5pm piping hot Indian coffee accompanied a range of delicious Indian snacks all served around the pool - PERFECT.
Sun-downers - served everyday from 6pm - 7pm, cocktails, beers, shorts and a range of mocktails and soft drinks served along with different canapes, a wonderful start to the evening.
Spice Fusion - A lively restaurant serving an exciting Indian menu again service was professional and ensured the whole evening was brilliant.
We had one minor issue relating to noisy students this however this was quickly and efficiently dealt with by management who ensured there was no repeat of this the following night - Thank you.
We often walked to or from the beach (10 mins max) but also made use of the excellent buggy service - again the staff co coordinating this were polite and went out of their way to ensure we were quickly transported to and from the beach.
To sum up our stay at the Diwa Club - It was FANTASTIC and desperately hope to come back( a late Easter 2019 may prevent this next year!). Thank you to everyone who made our holiday so so special.
it is one of the best five star hotel in south goa , the hotel is located in the green bushes with lot of coconut tress around , it has very good beach which is just 5 min walk from hotel . the hotel is providing transport to the beach after every 30 min ,
