Surrounded by mature banyan and mango trees and smothered in the sweet scent of frangipani, the Diwa Club is a private annex attached to the sprawling Alila Diwa Goa Resort. Built around a large lap pool that resembles the sunken basin of a royal palace, the discreet retreat is made up of a series of colonial-style buildings with steep red-tile roofs, long, low arches and wooden balconies. The design continues inside with wooden ceilings, cream walls, bold striped scatter cushions and Indian cotton curtains in soothing, earthy tones.
Bed and Bath
A covered passage paved with striking black-and-white tiles leads to the 26 rooms and seven suites. Large tubular lamps, gleaming dark wood furniture, and throw rugs with monochrome motifs add a modern touch. And all have wall-length windows and vast bathrooms with free-standing egg-shaped tubs. Sliding glass doors open to ample balconies equipped with chairs, tables and cozy, cushioned corner sofas where you can feed or laze, or just admire the view of the emerald checkerboard of rice paddies that surround the property. The Diwa Club Suites (947 square feet) have separate living rooms and are great for honeymooners or families. All guests enjoy in-room check-in and breakfast served anytime throughout the day.
Along one edge of the sparkling pool, the Diwa’s French-style Bistro bar serves all-day breakfast, then morphs into a candlelit restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine in the evening. As part of the larger Alila Diwa complex, the Diwa Club offers guests access to the resort’s two other restaurants. With stunning views of the infinity pool, Vivo serves a luscious mix of Pan-Asian and oriental dishes, while chef Edia Cotta’s succulent menu at Spice Studio focuses on traditional northwest Indian cuisine. For an aperitif or an after-dinner tipple, make a beeline for the Diwa Ali’s Edge bar to order cocktails made with local specialty feni liqueur (cashew or coconut) and enjoy panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. When you need a spot of pampering, head for Alila’s spa, where therapists offer a range of Asian and ayurvedic treatments using the hotel’s range of sumptuous natural products.
In the Area
Ask the hotel to arrange a morning tour of Panaji’s picturesque fish market, then bring back your catch and ask the chef to prepare your favorite recipe for dinner. By now you’re feeling peckish, so make the half-hour drive to Ponda’s Tropical Spice Plantation, where you can ride an elephant and have a lunch made with fresh local ingredients and served on a banana leaf. Hop on the hotel’s shuttle bus to Majorda and spend the afternoon lazing on one of south Goa’s finest beaches. If you’re feeling more active, set out on a walking tour of old Goa’s historic house-studded alleyways, or take the two-hour ride to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, the region’s second-largest nature reserve, whose forests are home to dozens of rare birds and other exotic wildlife.

The general manager Mr Soodh went out of his way to accommodate all our requests.

This is one of the better hotels in Goa. Everything was exceptional especially the manager Sylvester. His knowledge of Goan food was outstanding. He guided us as to the best places in the vicinity to eat and advised us which dishes to go with. Cynthia was also very helpful. We had a lovely holiday.
On our first day here I can say confidently this is the best hotel I have stayed in at goa( and we have been to Goa at least 8 times in the past 5 years )
