Overview

Colonial-style retreat near one of Goa's best beaches, with an intimate vibe and a holistic spa

The Look

Surrounded by mature banyan and mango trees and smothered in the sweet scent of frangipani, the Diwa Club is a private annex attached to the sprawling Alila Diwa Goa Resort. Built around a large lap pool that resembles the sunken basin of a royal palace, the discreet retreat is made up of a series of colonial-style buildings with steep red-tile roofs, long, low arches and wooden balconies. The design continues inside with wooden ceilings, cream walls, bold striped scatter cushions and Indian cotton curtains in soothing, earthy tones.

Bed and Bath

A covered passage paved with striking black-and-white tiles leads to the 26 rooms and seven suites. Large tubular lamps, gleaming dark wood furniture, and throw rugs with monochrome motifs add a modern touch. And all have wall-length windows and vast bathrooms with free-standing egg-shaped tubs. Sliding glass doors open to ample balconies equipped with chairs, tables and cozy, cushioned corner sofas where you can feed or laze, or just admire the view of the emerald checkerboard of rice paddies that surround the property. The Diwa Club Suites (947 square feet) have separate living rooms and are great for honeymooners or families. All guests enjoy in-room check-in and breakfast served anytime throughout the day.

Beyond

Along one edge of the sparkling pool, the Diwa’s French-style Bistro bar serves all-day breakfast, then morphs into a candlelit restaurant serving Mediterranean cuisine in the evening. As part of the larger Alila Diwa complex, the Diwa Club offers guests access to the resort’s two other restaurants. With stunning views of the infinity pool, Vivo serves a luscious mix of Pan-Asian and oriental dishes, while chef Edia Cotta’s succulent menu at Spice Studio focuses on traditional northwest Indian cuisine. For an aperitif or an after-dinner tipple, make a beeline for the Diwa Ali’s Edge bar to order cocktails made with local specialty feni liqueur (cashew or coconut) and enjoy panoramic views of the Arabian Sea. When you need a spot of pampering, head for Alila’s spa, where therapists offer a range of Asian and ayurvedic treatments using the hotel’s range of sumptuous natural products.

In the Area

Ask the hotel to arrange a morning tour of Panaji’s picturesque fish market, then bring back your catch and ask the chef to prepare your favorite recipe for dinner. By now you’re feeling peckish, so make the half-hour drive to Ponda’s Tropical Spice Plantation, where you can ride an elephant and have a lunch made with fresh local ingredients and served on a banana leaf. Hop on the hotel’s shuttle bus to Majorda and spend the afternoon lazing on one of south Goa’s finest beaches. If you’re feeling more active, set out on a walking tour of old Goa’s historic house-studded alleyways, or take the two-hour ride to Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary, the region’s second-largest nature reserve, whose forests are home to dozens of rare birds and other exotic wildlife.

Loved every moment

We'd booked a room at Alila Diwa and received an email inviting us to bid for an upgrade, and wow, are we happy we did.

The Diwa club rooms are amazing, gorgeous linen, spacious rooms, great balcony overlooking the pool and fantastic service.

Our personal host, Elston was a delight, offering suggestions to us throughout our stay. The Diwa Club Manager also personally contacted us to make sure we were enjoying our stay.

The little extras that go with the Diwa Club rooms make it worth while, complimentary treats next to the pool, afternoon tea and cocktails at sunset. Win Win Win

I would not hesitate to come back!

Loved our New Year visit!

While looking for last minute deals in Goa for New Years eve, we chanced upon this absolute gem of a property! The Diwa Club is a luxury resort - rooms are spacious & well maintained, bathrooms are huge, swimming pool isn't overcrowded, all day breakfast bistro has small portions but great food! The beach is walking distance but you can also use the golf cart at any time, the shack at the beach serves wonderful seafood too! Above all the staff and service is exceptional - Elston made our stay very special, he was always around to cater to smallest of needs, or just to say Hello with a nice smile! And did I mention that the New Year Eve party was awesome.. with one of the biggest food spreads, cocktails, music, african acrobat performances et all! We had a lovely stay and Alila Diwa is certainly one of our favourite resorts, would love to come back soon!

Beautiful hotel

Very clean, luxurious rooms, enormous bathroom/dressing room. Quiet, efficient air conditioning, well furnished and serviced. Clean towels twice daily. Nice touches such as a cafetière & ground coffee provided. Beautiful gardens that are very well kept. Good location with local bars, restaurants & shops and an excellent tailor ( will get al my holiday clothes made there next time, his work is amazing, thanks Raj). Unfortunately there is no longer a library but the reception have lots of books available if you run short of reading material. The breakfast bistro is wonderful and a slight blip in the service was soon remedied and Galvin, Kimberley and the rest of the team provide a great varied breakfast. Will definitely visit again.

Best hotel we have stayed in .

We have been to Goa 10+ times over the years and have tried all types of accommodation from 5 star hotels , guest houses and villas.
When we booked to come to the Diwa club I read the reviews and all where good, I now know why .
This is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in, not only In Goa but in all our trips over Europe and various country’s around the world.
The rooms are fantastic very big lots of space and kept in tip top condition .
The staff are great we spend a fair amount of our time around the club pool and get great service from all, Galvin, Mackenzie, joe, Clint , and of course Kimberly + all I’ve not mentioned.

The small touches that count I think are the afternoon tea/coffee and delicious small snacks that they give out at 4 and the sundowners cocktails and canopies. These are free of charge and really appreciated.
There is also cooler drinks bought round to your sun bed it seems just at the right time .

We have been here for 10 days so far and have another 4 to go I’ve never done a review before getting back home before but couldn’t wait .

We will definitely be returning to this lovely hotel and thank all the staff for making our trip so special.

It’s always a little more expensive to eat and drink in the hotels rather than visiting local restaurants or beach shacks but this one is reasonable with good variety and great quality.

If you are reading this review to see if it’s a good idea to come and stay, do its great.

Enjoy your stay as much as us
