How to Get There
I’ve stayed here many times and it’s never been worse. The check in desk was understaffed and super slow. One person in the long line called the front desk number from his cell to request someone come out and help - and a second person came out. Could they not have done that without a call? The safe in the room malfunctioned with my valuables inside and the response after opening it was not to bring another safe but to tell me I could bring everything to the front desk each morning. Well that was not going to be convenient - so I went without cleaning the rest of the trip and kept the do not disturb sign out. The power outlet next to the bed didn’t work and my Apple Watch did not charge. One lamp didn’t work either. There’s a limit to what is reasonable and this level of issues was way over that line. It’s just not well managed.
We booked the Westin Chicago North Shore through our travel agent and paid in advance. Having nothing to pay after our stay we dropped the room keys in the express check out box. To our surprise, when we arrived home we found we had been charged again by the hotel. The first couple of requests by our travel agent for a refund were ignored but eventually a letter of apology and a refund were issued. However, in the time it took to make the refund, the Aus dollar had risen and we were about $40 out of pocket through no fault of our own. All correspondence and phone calls to the manager by our travel agent to make up the difference have been ignored. Very poor from a big hotel chain. It is exremely regretable that poor customer service has forced me to make this negative revue.
Nice hotel, clean room, good bed, Westin quality. But no breakfast in restaurant due to staff meeting, and shop in the lobby open for breakfast, lunch and dinner - except for this Sunday. Yes, room service was fine, but.....
I live within 25 miles or so, but decided to utilize my points for two free nights to take a "staycation" at the Westin Chicago North Shore and found it to be a most enjoyable stay. There's an excellent restaurant and lounge on the premises and several other great dining choices within walking distance surrounding the hotel. A short drive down Milwaukee Road takes you to even more dining choices and several places to shop at, including H-Mart and ABT .
The hotel also has excellent fitness facilities along with a large indoor pool on the 1st floor which I enjoyed very much. While there were several ongoing functions including a weekend dance marathon, I found the property and my 9th floor room to be both comfortable and quiet. The service was first rate (always pleasantly answering the phone on the first ring!) and my room service breakfast was the best.
I'm very glad I tried this Westin after having seen it for years when dining with friends at Saranello's, and will look forward to visiting again! My only recommendation would be to upgrade the rooms at some point, because some of the cabinets and other fixtures are starting to show their age. Other than that, it was a truly excellent experience!
Hotel is OK, carpets in floor corridors are horrible and old. Elevators old. Hotel rooms needs upgrades, TV is good. They charged $40 for handling Amazon packages. When I sought a discount on this, no manager, no email.
The kiosk inside the hotel has managerial issues maybe this is not operated by the hotel.
I do wish I could have contacted the hotel manager.
