How to Get There
The Renaissance North Shore is one of the few hotels in the area that offers a free shuttle to Ravinia, which is a huge perk when seeing a show there. As others have noted, the hotel rooms and hallways could definitely use some updating, but the rooms are very clean and comfortably furnished. The hotel staff was all very pleasant and professional. What sets this hotel apart from other local hotels that offer a shuttle are the bar and upscale restaurant on site. Food, drinks and service at the hotel's bars/restaurant are fantastic, and the Renaissance will remain my "go-to" hotel to avoid driving to and parking at the Ravinia festival grounds.
I have to say that I travel and stay in hotels a lot. I mean at least once or twice a week in the busy season, sometimes more. I have seen a lot of hotels. THIS hotel is just amazing! I love the way they uniquely cater to guests. Ramina checked me in even offered me tea for my cold. She then sent a text and checked on me both days, it matters when someone cares. I have never seen where the front desk does that, so very neat. The room is spacious and clean. The bed is just wonderful, I want one for my house. There is plenty of room to park a big vehicle as well. I am makeing sure I mark this in my map list to stay again! The restaurant food was very good too. I loved my yogurt!
I just checked in and regret choosing this Property from the Marriott website. As a Gold Elite member, I’ve had much better rooms than the one I got. The rooms are old, tired, and musty. Thank goodness I’m only here one night. I’ll be sure to stay elsewhere on my bi-monthly trips to greater Chicago. Renaissance needs to step up their game.
The Renaissance Hotel might be a 4 star property at the end of the year once the remodel is complete. But it is not one now. The room was showing its age.
Front desk staff was friendly both at check in and check out. Lobby area was classy. Bed was comfortable. WiFi worked well. Room service was prompt. Chicken sandwich was decent. Fruit cup was mostly chunks of melon. Chocolate chip cookies were crunchy. Bathroom was small and shower needs to be updated. Noise level was good on the night I checked in but was quite noisy in the morning.
It was an okay experience. Prices get quite steep there. But the bed was comfy, internet was good and the staff friendly. So many of the important parts are there. It just needs some updating to be a more enjoyable place to stay.
Nice hotel situated on Chicago’s north shore (note: about 20 miles north of the city). Lobby area ambience is great for a drink. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are in process of being renovated...which is a good thing. I think we stayed in an older room. Bed was super soft and pillows were thin. Bathroom was small and lacked a fan.
Solid restaurant choices within hotel and close by.
