How to Get There
I stayed here with my young son, sister and several family members. We had a great city view room on the 30th floor. The room was clean and well decorated. I've stayed in other W hotels that had an awkward glassed in shower and toilet area. This was a more traditional bathroom but with a barn style door. The only thing missing from our room was a coffee machine. There was free coffee available in the lobby, but that means you have to be ready to see people first thing in the morning to get your coffee. The lobby was a great area to hang out, have a drink or have some food. The valet was expensive, but not a surprise in Chicago. There isn't any on-site self parking. I tried to find an overnight garage nearby but could not locate one. The nearest L station is about a 15 minute walk West from the hotel. We mostly walked or took an Uber while in the city. There is a Starbucks just down the block and a great breakfast place called Yolk about 2 blocks away. We also had the breakfast buffet in the hotel and it was decent. I will definitely consider staying here again.
The W Chicago Lakeshore hotel is in front of Lake Michigan and is near the Navy Pier and Northwestern Law School. The location is great as it is near the Magnificent Mile. The reception staff need some improvement and should treat their guests much better especially those arriving late night.
Not what they used to be. Dirty hallways and other common areas. Open soda boxes and dirty napkins stayed in the hallway for three days even after complaining twice to staff. Everything here is long in the tooth or damaged. Carpet stained and pulling up at corners of room. Cabinetry very marked up and sharped as were the walls and the bathroom. Felt like what I would imagine a holiday inn to be like. Have given the w a few last ties from Fort Lauderdale to Atlanta to Chicago. Not what they used to be. Not worth the 300 plus a night.
