How to Get There
We've been to Chicago several times but it was our first time booking with the Westin, I considered it in the past but chose elsewhere because they do not have a pool. But I knew that we would not have time this trip for swimming so I thought it would be a perfect time to try it out. NO regrets!. It is a beautiful hotel at a very fair price. Loved the location! I didn't miss the lack of a pool at all. Westin will definitely be our 1st choice from now on. I highly recommend!
A very good location for shopping and gorgeous views of the lake or the Michigan Avenue. Nice service and a very efficient concierge staff. A honest 4 stars hotel in terms of confort and rooms, club lounge and fitness.
THIS IS THE FINAL NARRATIVE UPON WHICH I HAVE DECIDED FOR TRIP ADVISOR
FULL DISCLOSURE ... I shared this review with hotel management prior to posting ...
management credited my Bonvoy account with 5000 points to make amends for the poor check in experience ...that was appreciated ....
We texted back and forth regarding upgrades for Titanium members vs contract customers who require suites...
unfortunately we had to agree to disagree ...
I feel that Titanium status and more than 125 nights in a Bonvoy property in less than a year as well as 60 straight nights in a Bonvoy property puts me at the head of the upgrade list above a contract customer ... management does not and I respect that but do not accept it ... again in fairness I was upgraded to a Jr Suite ...I expected more ...
Complete review follows :
We are Bonvoy Titanium Elite members, and we are on our second motor trip across the United States staying at exclusively Bonvoy properties. We will amass over 125 nights this year.... THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE HAD since we left home on July 23….
We stayed at this property on our last cross country trip two years ago and were very much looking forward to another stay here (Our first experience was excellent….), unfortunately, we were quite disappointed this time around.
When we pulled up to the Westin, the front door area was vacant. There were no valets or bellmen at the front entrance. I had to go into the lobby to find someone to help me. The front of the hotel is in a spot that is difficult to navigate if one is not familiar with it, thus a staff member would have been appreciated to help with the arrival procedure.
The check in was with a person who could have cared less about Titanium status, customer service or anything else. She did not thank me for my loyalty as is the usual case. She seemed more interested in getting back to whatever she was doing prior to me disturbing her with my presence.
I had asked for an upgrade when making the reservation and also upon arrival, but was told I was denied and that she “could not take the upgrade away from someone else.” I wonder if everyone else averaged a stay in a Bonvoy every 3 nights all year???
Parking was a joke… $ 72 for parking per night…in the hotel parking lot. But you have access to your car 24 hours per day. (I have never parked anywhere where I did not have access to my car 24 hours per day…. I do not know what that nonsense was all about.) I parked across the street and saved quite a bit of money.
Over all, I feel the lobby staff was cold, not helpful and extremely unwelcoming. This is exactly the opposite of what I have come to expect from Bonvoy properties and staff over my several years as a member.
To say that I am disappointed with the entire experience is to master the art of understatement.
This is unfortunate, because the hotel is in a very good location in the city. It is also a very nice property with a lot to offer…. However, I doubt If I would ever come back or would recommend this location to anyone.
On a good note, Brittany in the club lounge is a superstar. She was very efficient, polite and friendly. It was a pleasure to spend time with her in the lounge.
Good news ... there are a number of Bonvoy properties in the area from which to choose ....
