An airy loft for up to three in a historic warehouse in Wicker Park, dubbed the "Brooklyn of Chicago"

The Lowdown

As the nickname might suggest, Chicago is a whirlwind of activity, blowing you in a thousand directions. There are enormous art installations and art museums in the Loop, the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier around the Near North Side, baseball games at Wrigleyville’s famous field and leading American theaters in Lincoln Park. Convenient to all of these destinations is Wicker Park, commonly considered the Brooklyn of Chicago, and it’s at the meeting of this neighborhood and Bucktown that you’ll find The Hollander.
There’s lots going on in the property’s hipster-hub setting, but within its walls, you can disconnect from it all; the Hollander building began as a warehouse for an early-20th-century van company’s furniture and now doubles as a hostel and a sleek, artsy loft retreat for tired-out city slickers – the perfect place to chill out and recharge. You’ll find a lounge, lobby bar and a coffee shop, plus a TV, minibar and sitting area in every private room, and there’s even access to the exclusive seasonal pool, at neighboring The Robey. Consider the stay your very own urban oasis – a still point in the Windy City.

Loft room

Private lofts are designed to house at least three, with lockers for each guest and a common sitting area. Stream media to your TV, using the complimentary Wi-Fi, or raid the minibar. The Pair of Queens room offers two queen beds, the Four of a Kind features one queen and two twins, and the Three of a Kind room includes one queen and one twin bed.

Dining here is a laid-back affair, with bottled and canned beers, bottled cocktails, Chicago-style hot dogs and snacks on hand at the bar, plus baked goods, coffees and teas at the coffee shop. Alternative eateries abound around town, including in buzzy Wicker Park.

Often referred to as the Brooklyn of Chicago, Wicker Park and next-door Bucktown (you’re on the border between the two) is a creative Windy City hub, with offbeat bakeries, artsy boutiques, internationally inspired bars and more. Try The Violet Hour, a speakeasy-inspired bar where cell phones aren’t allowed, and exotic elixirs are served in dimly lit, curtained-off enclaves. The neighborhood also sits within reasonably easy reach of the city’s greatest hits, like the Art Institute of Chicago, Navy Pier and Wrigley Field, via the L.
