Overview

The Review

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is famous for its natural splendor, and although the Amalfi Hotel is far from that sunny coast, it brings a taste of la dolce vita to Chicago’s River North. Thoughtfully designed and staffed with warm personalities, the Amalfi offers a lavish yet cozy stay.

Instead, guests sit with Experience Designers, who check them in and provide as much or as little guidance as they need during their stay in the Windy City.

Rooms are gorgeously decorated in a warm palette: gold and russet bed pillows and runner, and dark mahogany bed tables and oversize desk. The comfy beds are dressed in 315-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and premium Serta pillowtop mattress, and the bigs bathrooms have luxe Aveda products and dual-showerheads.

Before heading to explore the River North neighborhood, head up to the sixth floor Ravello Lounge for a free aperitif (from 5.30 to 7 pm daily) — I loved the signature Amalfitini made with Skyy vodka, Caravella limoncello, Peachtree schnapps, triple sec and white cranberry juice. If liquid dinners aren’t your thing, the hotel’s partner restaurant, Harry Caray’s, is just across the street. Consistently rated one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, don’t miss the nine-ounce filet mignon with wild mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes and truffle butter — down-to-earth Midwestern fare that’s the perfect complement the European sophistication back at the hotel.

Okay, but breakfast very disappointing
joee1166

Yeah, it’s in a good location with clean reasonably sized rooms. But the breakfast is appalling. It’s a help yourself buffet with very limited options which you eat in foam bowls and paper plates using plastic cutlery. Selection is limited to donuts, muffins rolls and a yogurt. There were a few sick looking boiled eggs floating in water and a large bowl of mixed cereal.

Breakfast very late, service going down

Hotel is ok. Nothing special compared to other hotels in that area. I stay here already for 10 years since it is one of the preffered hotels of our company.
The service is really going down here. You see also a lot of changes in staff which for me is not a good sign.
Last time I stayed 4 nights and breakfast is suppose to be there at 6:30am. None of the days it was on time. The earliest everything was there was at 7:15am. Complaints did not help at all, same next day. Women that needed to take care of BF did not care at all what people said.

Nice rooms, breakfast not so much

Very nice clean rooms, comfortable beds/mattresses. Bathroom spacious, water pressure & shower heads actually allow you to rinse off. Friendly staff. “Free” breakfast, you’re better off paying for it somewhere else. Store bought bagels, no cream cheese, plain yogurt only, bananas came from the “good for banana bread” pile at the grocery store. Warm milk for the cereal. As long as you don’t care about all that, highly recommend.
