The Review

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is famous for its natural splendor, and although the Amalfi Hotel is far from that sunny coast, it brings a taste of la dolce vita to Chicago’s River North. Thoughtfully designed and staffed with warm personalities, the Amalfi offers a lavish yet cozy stay.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/3194/prop-58953-1350675075-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”Check-in is passé at this hotel where Experience Designers help guests plan their entire stay.”}The front desk is rendered passé at this hotel. Instead, guests sit with Experience Designers, who check them in and provide as much or as little guidance as they need during their stay in the Windy City.

Rooms are gorgeously decorated in a warm palette: gold and russet bed pillows and runner, and dark mahogany bed tables and oversize desk. The comfy beds are dressed in 315-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets and premium Serta pillowtop mattress, and the bigs bathrooms have luxe Aveda products and dual-showerheads.

Before heading to explore the River North neighborhood, head up to the sixth floor Ravello Lounge for a free aperitif (from 5.30 to 7 pm daily) — I loved the signature Amalfitini made with Skyy vodka, Caravella limoncello, Peachtree schnapps, triple sec and white cranberry juice. If liquid dinners aren’t your thing, the hotel’s partner restaurant, Harry Caray’s, is just across the street. Consistently rated one of the best steakhouses in Chicago, don’t miss the nine-ounce filet mignon with wild mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes and truffle butter — down-to-earth Midwestern fare that’s the perfect complement the European sophistication back at the hotel.

Aceptqable business hotel

The room was nicely sized with the usual amenities, couch, big tv, ironing board, hairdryer. Thelocation is excellent as it is very close to the Merchandise Mart and downtown Chicago attractions that one can walk to easily. The only criticism I have is the breakfast room which doubles as the happy hour room. I feel the room is rather depressing and in need of moving to an outside location or re-decoratin in a more up to date. style. Breakfast, while satisfactory, was nothing special and culd also be improved with made to order entrees.

Perfect location and atmosphere

Kinzie hotel is very centrally located that you can walk to almost all attractions (if you don't mind walking several blocks). It is one block from the river and 2 blocks from Magnificent Mile. It is close to the free trolley when it is running and metro stations. The room was clean and spacious. We really enjoyed the free evening reception with beer or wine and mixed nuts and pretzel mixes. The free continental breakfast was also very good with plenty of choices.

Very nice convenient hotel

What a pleasant surprise. Decided to stay for a meeting instead of the usual big name hotel next door and everything was great. The staff upon arrival were very friendly and were very helpful as I arrived well in advance of check in. Breakfast was good and the room and the beds were very clean and comfortable. Needed to store my luggage as i checked out and still had a couple of meetings before departure to airport and the staff were great.

perfect pit stop

Stayed here on the way to LA and it was excellent. We had a large dog with us... they brought him a dog bed and bowl without us even asking. Room was beautiful and SO CLEAN, beds super comfortable. So perfect especially considering the price. The front desk staff was SO great at checkin. So nice to have people who dont hate their nobs checking you in. We will be back in chicago for the marathon and already booked our rooms here.

Excellent hotel, great staff

We stayed here for three nights celebrating both my birthday and our 25th wedding anniversary. We were given a great room and a bottle of wine from the management. Drake gave above and beyond service, but all staff at front desk, housekeeping and breakfast friendly and kind. Breakfast was fine, a big selection, and rooms were lovely, large and clean with very comfortable bed and furniture and lovely bathrooms and decor. Thanks for a truly terrific stay!
