Simplicity in the city

Let's be upfront; this might not be the perfect hotel for everyone. For my needs it was excellent.

I was in Chicago for a shared birthday weekend. We were in walking distance from the Lyric Opera, the Art Institute, great restaurants(!), and even on the spur of the moment - Hamilton.

We had an upper level floor, so no street noise, although the halls were not as quiet as they might have been. The bed comfort was so-so. Room decor was pared down, but generally thoughtful; enough lamps for example. However, TV was attached to the wall with no swivel option; you can watch the news or eat a take-out salad at the table, but not both at once.

Can't really speak to the service. You know how some hotels seem to have staff walking around who every few feet greet you? This is not that hotel. Pared down staff, pared down decor, pared down amenities like room service; these are ways to keep the price down, for which I was grateful. The staff, when approached, were helpful but they're not looking for ways to serve you. If you need a Ritz-Carlton touch like that, this isn't the place for you.

The Centric brand bills itself as the local place, part of the landscape, with people who can give you the real local vibe of a place. That was in short supply, yet, with the Lyric, Art Institute, great restaurants and Hamilton around...not sure I needed more!

I will say this: avoid the restaurant; even if it's snowing outside you can do so much better! But the bar is lovely for a nightcap before bed. I'll also give props to "The Corner," essentially a private lobby where you can lounge or work or watch sports.

Centric the Loop is a pared down hotel. It is best for independent travelers, for business or for tourists who will be active outside the hotel for long periods; the bathroom design is also best for solo travelers or people who know one another really well. The brand is not positioned for people who are less independent.

Last comment: Lyft has the hotel address at the outer door of the restaurant which leads to some confusion.

Perfect spot with a great staff ready to help you enjoy what the city of Chicago has to offer. Room was clean and furnished as you would expect. Room service was prompt and delicious. There was a refrigerator in the room as well so that we could enjoy leftovers the next day!

Seamless experience

Absolutely loved this place. Staff was friendly and checked us in early with an upgrade.
The room was Fresh, clean and amazingly comfortable.
My wife and I spent the night in Chicago and felt like we were teenagers having a slumber party. The rooms comfort felt like a home away from home. Great water pressure on the showers and the beds are very very comfortable.
We really enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to go back on our next trip to Chicago.

Wonderful stay!

Our stay here was a seamless, enjoyable experience. Staff was very friendly and courteous, and the rooms well appointed and clean. Bedding was the best I have ever slept on! Only minor complaint is the closet space is extremely limited for hanging outfits.
