How to Get There
Will submit pictures later but drained carpets, dirty desk, broken coffee maker, no space to even unpack I'm surprised this qualifies as a 4 star hotel only saving grace was the bar and bartender Carlos
In room tablet is very creative idea and we like it! Yet apps on the tablet needs to updated frequently to use.
The room is cozy and fine decorated; red line subway is only 5 minutes walking. This is a will-return hotel.
The Claridge House is an old, boutique hotel property in a great location. The current management took over about a year ago and undertook a major renovation. There are still some issues. For example, the sink is located the bathroom, which is not unusual, but not having a convenient towel rack any where near the sink is unusual. And the towels that were in the main bath area were much less soft and absorbent than I would have expected. In the first room I was assigned, which was very small but adequate for one, the cabinet with the safe was located beneath a protruding edge of the box enclosing the TV. I hit my head twice, complained to the front desk and was promptly assigned a bigger room and comped 3 breakfasts. That was an indication of one of the hotel's strengths- first rate staff. April and Aricela at the front desk were terrific, as was Pedro at the bar. The kitchen was less than great- my omelets were small and overcooked. It would not be my choice for breakfast next visit. All in all, the location, staff, and quality room furnishings would bring me back, but at this point it's a very good. albeit imperfect, place to stay when visiting Chicago.
My family and I stayed at this hotel last weekend for a wedding near buy. The reason we picked this hotel was due to the proximity of the wedding. It is in a great location, updated downstairs ONLY, rooms seem out dated but that's NOT the worst part.
All day every day a noise goes off I would say 2-3 times a hour that sounds like tires screeching. It woke me up all night and I would get up to see if it was a car at the next door parking let just to realize that its coming from the roof. I called down stairs and they said they will fix it by the next day. It was NOT fixed by the time we left.
The noise is so loud and will make your heart skip a beat each time it goes off.
To be fair the hotel has a fairly nice location which can easily be reached by foot. The surrounding neighborhood is very quiet, however this is not reflected within the hotel itself. Walls seem to be paper thin so that you hear everything. I mean.. Everything... Not only that but the doors to the rooms stick so that you hear constant slamming at all hours of night. AC was a nightmare - direction of flow couldn't be adjusted so that the person laying nearest froze. Without however the room became sticky. Changing from high to low also didn't make it any quieter. Otherwise quiant hotel. I did expect a 4 star hotel's clientele to be a bit different. Really irritating havinf drunks yelling in the hall at 1 and 5am. Toilet also seems to be made for little people. Never in my life have I sat so low to the floor...
