Close to the Magnificent Mile and the north end of Millennium Park, this Loop area hotel is a swank sleep with almost 700 guestrooms, an 11,000-square-foot spa and an exclusive 15th-floor concierge level. The guestrooms feature contemporary floral artwork and muted gray and beige linens, and come stocked with mod cons including Le Labo bath amenities, rainfall shower heads and Nespresso coffee makers. Three on-site restaurants make it easy to hole up during chilly Chicago winters: locally focused Aria won a 2013 Wine Spectator award; Eno pairs wine with cheese and chocolate; and the Aria bar serves up light lunches, sushi and cocktails daily.
In the Area
The hotel puts you within spitting distance of Chicago’s most iconic attractions. Take a funhouse-like photo of the skyline in front of the Bean, walk north on Michigan Avenue over the river for Magnificent Mile shopping, or hoof it to the John Hancock Center to see the city from up high (skip the organized tour and opt for a cocktail in the 956h-floor Signature Lounge). Sampling the city’s signature treats is a breeze, too— Giordano’s Pizza, famed for its stuffed crust pizza, is on the north end of the park; the original Garrett’s Popcorn shop still doles out its Garrett Mix (CaramelCrips coupled with CheeseCorn flavors); and nearby Portillo’s dishes out hot dogs and juicy Italian beef sandwiches.
How to Get There
We stayed in a suite on the Fairmont Gold floor for 3 nights and it was an absolutely excellent experience. If i could rate the floor as 5 stars I would. Mugi took amazing care of us for 3 days (thanks for the great dinner reco and everything else), as did Cody (thanks for the shampoo and all the info), and the other staff in the Lounge - sorry I can't remember all your names. They went out of their way to anticipate anything we needed. Whenever we stay at a Fairmont, it usually feels like home - and this was no exception. I would recommend if staying at this hotel, get on this floor! Worth every penny.
The only reason i didn't rate the overall property a as 5 stars is it's missing some of the usual Fairmont things we are used to: bigger bottles of bath products in suites, bigger bars of soap, the Fairmont gold towels and bathrobes, full length mirrors, sheets that were ripped and that don't have holes in them, toothpaste tubes when requested instead of a packet etc - small things -but good just to be aware of if you're used to the Fairmont experience. If we weren't expecting those, we wouldn't have known. (I'm a Fairmont Platinum member so stay a lot of nights.)
The staff on Fairmont Gold FAR make up for any short comings in the rooms and they went out of their way to give us a great experience and they did! We wouldn't stay anywhere else. Thanks Mugi, Cody and the great staff for making our long weekend truly memorable. We were sad to leave and can't wait to come back!
Note: that we thought the Fairmont was out of our budget, and we were originally only looking to them for a hotel block when we were looking at the Mid America Club. But the Fairmont won us over with an incredible package I could not be happier that we went that route. We had a wedding of around 170 at the Fairmont in December of 2018, with about half of our guests coming in from out of town. We had lots of moving parts, dozens of hospitality bags and much more -- and working with Tracy Hartman, Tina Salus and Alyssa Olsen was a dream and a pleasure. They were incredibly patient, attentive, responsive and friendly. Our hotel block was competitively priced, the rooms were huge, and the staff was unbelievable when we were there -- anything we needed was a text or a phone call away! We'd have another event there in a heartbeat. I would absolutely recommend the Fairmont to anyone having a larger wedding in Chicago. Amazing location, amazing staff, hot and good food...the list goes on. They treated us and our guests like royalty. If you are looking at hotels for a wedding in Chicago, do not pass this one up!!
Competent but the restaurants and bars seem to be in flux. Some carpentry in the room was not right. I think the lobby needs rethinking. The food was well made but I don't want to eat in a bar, where is the dining room?
My husband and I stayed at the Fairmount for two nights. We were on the 33rd floor and it was very quiet and relaxing.
Pros: The room and bathroom are decent size. The mattress was very comfortable and the staff was helpful and friendly.
Cons: The room wasn’t cleaned very well upon arrival. There were crumbs on the floor and table from previous guests. Rooms are a little outdated but still nice.
Overall it was a lovely stay and the hotel is close to tourist attractions.
The staff was available at every moment trying to make sure every need was taken care of.The bed was extremely comfortable. Small amenities were greatly appreciated from slippers, robes, designer soaps and shampoos. Extremely spacious room.
