Stolen jewelry
Reviewed 4 days ago

It has taken me a while before attempting to write this. On our 15 anniversary trip we chose Paris and this small hotel. On the last day my engagement ring and Movado necklace was stolen from our room ! I Repeat I did NOT MISPLACED IT or LOSE IT, I knew exactly where I left it .and even saw it that Morning.,35 min later after leaving . We called hotel they sent their cleaning lady and miraculously DISAPPEARED !! I was told not to call Police !!!! Please go home . Needless to say we missed our flight , filed police report !!!
Response HOTEL after emailing them a few times; we are NOT responsible for anything in the room unless it’s in the safe !
So please choose another hotel that will ensure your safety and belongings !!!!! And will have HONORABLE STAFF.

Great stay and good location to base yourself in Paris

The hotel is modern and very clean. The reception staff are really friendly and always really happy to help. Marie-Helene in particular was lovely! They provided us with good restaurant recommendations and made bookings for us when we weren’t confident with our French skills. They service your room on a daily basis. The room is small as others have described but it’s more than big enough for the two of us. We spent our time exploring Paris and only used the room to shower and sleep. Like many places in Europe, they didn’t provide an iron in the room. I took a small travel iron which proved to be very useful. The bathroom is a good size and the shower is fantastic. Great water temperature and pressure! The location is good with regards to travelling around Paris. Luxembourg RER train station is very close by which is the stop we got off when we caught the train from Charles De Gaulle airport. And there is Cluny Saint Michelle which is very close by when catching the Metro trains for getting around to all different parts of Paris. Breakfast with the basic rooms isn’t normally provided but they gave it to us for free! However, I believe it’s normally 12€?? If so, I wouldn’t pay for it. Not 24€ for two people. Whilst the coffee is decent and the food is good quality, it lacks variety and you can get a lot more outside the hotel. There are three restaurants at the door step of the hotel and there’s a coin laundry to wash and dry clothes about three minutes away. There’s also a dry cleaner around 6 minutes away if needed. You’re also a few minutes walk from Luxembourg gardens which are just absolutely stunning!! I highly recommend a visit and if you have time, have a picnic there. The only downside for us is that there aren’t a lot of cafes/restaurant close by. A handful within 5 minutes walking distance. But the upside is that you can get to great eateries with a 15 minute walk or less if you catch a train. When we arrived at the airport, we bought a 3 day zone 1-5 train pass (around 32€ for two people from memory??). That allowed us to get from CDG airport to the hotel and travel around Paris for 3 days. We ended up catching a taxi to the airport when leaving Paris. That’s a fixed rate of 62€. Uber is around 10€ cheaper depending on time/demand etc.
To summarise, I would be more than happy to stay there again. If you want something a bit more hippy and busy, stay in Montmartre. But I feel like you’ll probably pay a little more. I think we may have got a good deal from booking.com at around 220€ per day average (it costs more per night on weekends). Wherever you stay, make sure you enjoy the bread and the butter in Paris. It’s the best in the world. Certainly better than in Venice :-) Oh, and I highly recommend doing a food and wine tour early on in your stay. The guide will give you great recommendations of where to go for the best food and wine and where the locals eat. We did a tour with “Paris by mouth” and it was great!

Location, location, location!

Select Hotel is perfectly situated on the Left Bank, on the edge of St. Germain des Pres, near many of the main attractions in Paris - Sainte Chapelle, Notre Dame, the Luxembourg Gardens, restaurants, shops, etc.. At the end of a small square in front of a little used entrance to the Sorbonne, this hotel is sheltered from traffic noise. There are several small restaurants with outdoor patios beside the hotel so a room in the front might be noisier but mine was at the back of the hotel overlooking a skylight a couple of floors down and couldn't have been quieter. Select seems to be a renovated older hotel because my room had original wooden beams. The main floor is a series of small, quiet, stylish rooms, one a bar, others for lounging, some on different levels, lightened by a large central skylight and white walls. Splashes of colour in the furniture and an unusual cactus garden under the skylight create a warm ambiance. My room was very small, with a double bed but it had everything I needed - tv, tiny closet and fridge, desk and chairs. I retreated there thankfully after each busy day of my week in Paris. There were no drawers but several shelves, a small but modern washroom with a good sized shower, both overhead and handheld shower heads. A large casement window opened onto the internal court over the skylight and provided lots of light. I didn't have breakfast here but bought yogurt, fruit and granola at either of two grocery stores down the street. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. If I ever have the privilege of returning to beautiful Paris, I will stay at the Select.

Just Excellent Hotel

I have stayed in Match 2018 and I have to admit that it was an outstanding experience. Location, facilities, staff, breakfast all just perfect. I surely return back to this hotel. They were very responsive to all our requests even for umbrellas when raining.

My new favorite hotel in Paris

I've stayed at 20+ different hotels in Paris (I like the variety), but that changes after this stay. I use tripadvisor a lot, and generally know what to expect from a 4 star rating on this website, but this was way beyond that. It is fabulous on the dimensions that matter most: location, cleanliness, friendliness, and quietness of sleep! The actual facility is recently updated, so everything is clean, new, sleek, and perfect. The staff are all amazingly friendly. And, the room is not-surprisingly compact like all the others in this price range. And the location is phenomenal, right next to the Sorbonne, the fountains out front, a bustling cafe next door, and the entire city of Paris right out the door (closest main attractions include Notre Dame (5 min. walk), Pompidou Center (10 min.), Jardin Tuileries (12 min.), Louvre (15 min.), etc. There are almost TOO many restaurants nearby (Latin Quarter and others). I actually thought I must have been billed incorrectly, as I also stayed at another hotel on this trip right around the corner, and it was old, not that friendly, and cost another 60 euros/night. This is a gem of a value.
