How to Get There
Easy to find, helpful staff, convenient affordable breakfast buffet, lovely neighborhood close to Avenue des Gobelins. Had open street market with lots of interesting stalls on Boulevard Auguste Blanqui on Friday and Sunday. Our room had view of Eiffel Tower. Around corner to restaurants, and lovely boulangerie (closed on Sundays). Multiple Metro station access excellent: stroll down Avenue des Gobelins to another metro stop. Is about 30 minute ride on Metro to Musee de Louvre. Felt like we got to see tourist sights and enjoy a neighborhood.
Stayed for four nights. It was updated, clean and comfortable. Closets have safes. Televisions are small in the standard rooms. The staff is pleasant and there’s usually someone around who speaks English. Housekeeping was fine. No problems. There is no on-site restaurant or bar, but there is breakfast included (in the breakfast room). The best guest rooms are probably on the front corner—the rooms numbered x05. They have a view (distant Eiffel Tower view) and more amenities. We had two rooms. One was a top floor “privileged” room. It had more inclusions like robes and slippers, a sitting area and a nice private balcony with seating. The other was basic and slightly crowded with a desk, chair, two benches, etc. Just a lot of stuff. Note that the standard room with two twin beds is tight. The twins are pushed together and there isn’t room to separate them even if you wanted to. The bathrooms were nice with tub and shower, shampoo, body wash, etc. This hotel is close to a lot of restaurants and shopping, including the Place D’Italie shopping center with the usual stores. Many of the guests were French tourists. It’s worth pointing out that there are two Mercure hotels within two blocks of each other. They are both close to Place D’Italie. This one is on Rosalie near Gobelins. The other is two blocks away on a boulevard and I’m not sure it was quite as nice. Be sure you know which one you’re staying at. One of our taxi drivers was even confused.
I honestly dont know why this hotel gets good reviews, it's just awful. The rooms are very tired, dingy and noisy. There's no air conditioning of any use. Apart from the location the hotel is miserable.
