Mediocre with some serious service issues
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Firstly the positive points: the location is absolutely wonderful, within walking distance of many major sites (Marais, Père Lachaise, Les Halles). The hotel is also good value for money -- yes, the rooms are small, but that really is almost the norm in Paris.
Unfortunately, there were a number of issues that are simply not acceptable. The first is that we and a number of other guests were left standing in front of a locked door around midnight, despite constant ringing of the bell. Note that there is no mention that doors would be locked at night after a certain time. It was only after one of the other guests phoned the Mercure central desk that, finally, the receptionist turned up with two other people. He didn't even bother to apologise for keeping everyone outside in the rain and cold. Secondly, on our third day, housekeeping did not change towels and instead just picked them off from the floor (!) and threw them on the rails, despite the fact that placing towels on the floor is the way to request new towels. At checkout, no-one bothered to ask how our stay had been, so here it is...

Tiny rooms
Reviewed 2 months ago

The hotel has a pleasant staff. The decoration is nice, with some colorful historical scenes on the walls. The breakfast is simple, but ok. The main problem I had was that the room was so tiny that it became a very unpleasant experience. You can’t even hang clothes straight... So if you have suitcases, are two, or like a minimum space to move around, avoid the place...

Great little hotel

We stayed three nights at the hotel when in Paris with two other couples. We had an executive room on the 8th floor. It was clean, spacious, and well equipped. King size bed was very comfortable. The fridge was stocked with water and soft drinks. Bathroom had bath and separate shower. We had a beautiful view over the roof tops of Paris.
Breakfast was buffet style in the small dining room on the ground floor. They served a good selection of meat, eggs, cheese, pastries, cereal, and delicious, warm fresh bread. The buffet was replenished regularly throughout the morning.
Great location for sightseeing. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Hotel That Ticks Every Box!!

This is an excellent hotel, I have nothing but praise for it. It has everything you could want in a hotel. We have stayed at Mercure before and were very pleased with this hotel.

It is very conveniently located. The area itself is quiet with lots of little Paris cafes and restaurants within a five minute walk. There is also a supermarket just off the square if you need any essentials. The hotel is about a 30 second (if that) walk from Voltaire metro station (take exit three and go back on yourself after the exit, it is just down on the right) which is only a few stops from central Paris as well Nation station which is the station to catch the RER to Disney if that is in your plans!

The hotel is very clean and modern, despite the tradional building and exterior. The rooms are very well maintained and don't show the age of the building at all. As others have said, the rooms are a bit on the small side, but unless the hotel is purpose built, that is typical of any Paris hotel. To be fair though, I think it adds a bit of uniqueness and character to to the hotel and if this is an issue for you, you are probably spending too long at the hotel and not enough time out and about in Paris! We were also lucky enough to be in a room facing out into the square with balcony windows which was really an added bonus and again just adds to the 'feel' of Paris.

All the stafff we dealt with were pleasant and very helpful. Didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on that.

Overall, it was everything we wanted and all round excellent hotel. We woud happily stay here next time we are in Paris and I would recommend without hesitation.
