How to Get There
Mrs. Goose picked this hotel for a break over Christmas and we've returned several times since.
As we all know Mrs. Goose loves to pick great places to stay when we travel and with this place I think she hit it straight on and HONK HONK this place will make you smile too. If it doesn't make you smile you may have a serious problem with your ability to smile.
When we first visited the weather was horribly rainy and windy. We took Eurostar from St. Pancras and then a car collected us at the station and a short ride to Monmartre to the hotel. The hotel is around the corner from the famous Moulin Rouge and the old artsy district where many great artists lived and had studios. Lots of sex shops around and strip clubs in the area. Many fast food joints but if you are a fan of the movie Amélie that cafe is there and you can eat some great food there. You see when we travel or eat anywhere outside our home, Mrs. G needs to use a fork and knife so our selection is limited to usually places you can sit down. It is also nice if Mrs. G can get some good wine too. This cafe has the traditional french fare and the food was actually very good but then it is Paris and generally the food there is better than anywhere in London. Sorry London but it's true....
So there are plenty of fruit markets and bakeries nearby so check out the street directly to the right of the moulin rouge. I don't think you need to spend any time in the moulin rouge because it looks like a tourist trap.
As far as the hotel goes, it is best described as discreet (wink wink honk honk) and the only real evidence of the hotel being there are the two red lights on either side of the front doors that once identified the building as a brothel.
When you enter the hotel, you will find the decor on the moorish and whorish side but then that's why you are staying here. We like the dark dark reds and soft lighting. The small intimate lounge is off to the left behind the small lounge room and beyond that is a small conservatory where you can have breakfast or drinks in the evening.
The from desk guys are wonderful. They remembered me and Mrs. Goose after our first visit and they had the champagne ready and waiting for us without even asking for it.
Mrs. Goose booked us in the from suite, the best of course and the colours are dark reds with black and gold accents. We didnt book the 2 bedroom because it was not available and I don't think the colours in the room suited us. Mrs. G knows what's best that's for sure!
An added bonus was a small WC tucked away from the full sized bath.
The room was very quiet and just like you would expect it to be for the price. I don't know how much it was because the GOOSE doesnt really look at the bills but whatever it cost it was worth it.
I could find no faults anywhere - well maybe one.
That was for the times we visited I was never able to get into to spa/pool area in the lower floors.
Now being partially aquatic it would have been nice to enjoy the Turkish style bath and pool but it was no biggie to miss it. It was raining most of the time we were there so it goes....
The hotel did indeed try to accommodate us by making a special arrangement to use the facility but I really didn't want to use it that badly and they guys there were so nice and polite they will not forget the next time we show up.
Besides Mrs. Goose was too tired to use the spa and the room so soft and inviting we just stayed in there and had our champagne and nibbles.
Honk honk honk try this Hotel to spice up your life or take your loved one and just crash there. You will love it too.
They do a limited menu for guests but it's worth trying out one of the fantastic restaurants on the hill. We dined at the Windmill one night and it was all good. Nice wine and the area is not as expensive as some other areas of Paris.
OH, there is no coffee machine in the room but the room service is pronto and the coffee good. The breakfasts are also very good and I don't know how much it costs but it is worth it. Enjoy!
Maison Souquet sweeps you away to another time and place as soon as you enter its front door. We can't say enough about the decor, from each of the three salons on the ground floor to the rooms to the basement hammam.
The service was exceptional as well. We felt like we were the only guests at the hotel, even though it was peak summer travel season. We overslept our prepaid breakfast on our first night due to jet lag and the staff insisted on whipping up breakfast for us even at 1pm.
The cocktails in the lounge were the perfect nightcap to our Paris evenings.
Maison Souquet is a cozy, friendly boutique hotel in a famous locale. It is less than a block to the Moulin Rouge and easy walking distance to the best of Mont Martre. The multilingual staff is eager to please and arranges transportation and restaurant reservations flawlessly. A most enjoyable place to stay.
