Close to the Opéra Garnier, Hôtel Athénée Paris is a romantic retreat designed by lauded interior designer Jacques Garcia, who is renowned for his opulent style and rich color palette. From the sultry lobby, furnished with red velvet armchairs, silk brocade wallpaper and oil paintings, to the 20 guestrooms, which were inspired by various operas, this intimate property feels like a luxurious cocoon. Rooms start at a petite 150 square feet (Chambre Classique), but each features tapestry wall hangings above the beds, furniture designed by Jacques Garcia, and discreet reading lamps built into the headboards. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious and are stocked with products from Hermès. The elegant wood-paneled Red Bar is decorated with signed photos of opera stars from a bygone era, and the traditional smoking lounge in the cellar has a humidor loaded with fine cigars.
In the Area
Tucked away down a typically Parisian side street bustling with cafés and bistros, the hotel is within walking distance of major landmarks including the Opéra Garnier and the legendary Olympia concert hall, which has a fantastic program that showcases home-grown and international talent. From the Place Vendôme, with its array of glittering jewelers, including Cartier and Baccarat, to the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay, many of Paris’s shopping and cultural hot spots are within easy reach.
How to Get There
Excellent location near Opera. Good breakfast. Clean room. Friendly stuff. What else can you expect for the money you pay ($250 including taxes)?
Why for short stay? The room is so large that it fits a bed and 2 medium suitcases. And the receptionist said that we got an upgraded room. I cannot imagine what size non-upgraded is.
But I repeat: this is Paris, Opera, reasonable price. So giving it 5 stars.
Firstly, hotel is absolutely charming and beautiful. The staff is nice snd attentive. Location is superb.
However, there are things which simply do not make the hotel 4*. The room 304 is extremely small, even by Paris standards. It could work for one person but not for two. The cleaning service has forgotten some items in the room after cleaning. The mechanism of the plug in the bathtub was broken. And the cleaning of the room was done between 4-5 afternoon, when the guests would like to have opportunity to rest.
And, yes, Hèrmes toiletries which is a nice touch...
Arrived to the hotel early after our flight, very friendly bilingual assistant manager assisted us. She offered us water and a snack of croissants while checking in. They prepared our room earlier than check in time. We wandered nearby in the neighborhood with plenty of things to occupy us. When we returned, room was ready and she had multiple dinner suggestions. We had a great dinner and all the hotel staff were very friendly. Had an excellent breakfast the next day and the checkout process was smooth. They suggested to walk rather than Uber to train station and the walk easy. Thank you to the excellent staff.
