The Review

La Belle Juliette puts some of Paris’s best at its guests’ fingertips; the hotel’s Left Bank address, a 10-minute walk from the Jardin du Luxembourg, puts them in the thick of things. All around are upscale boutiques, bohemian cafés and some of the best gourmet shops in the City of Lights.

{“type”:”img-inline”,”src”:”/static/images/product/properties/editorialreviews/10772/pgal-70498-1306514805-full.jpg”,”width”:”275″,”caption”:”The hotel decor is inspired by the life of Juliette Récamier, a flamboyant 19th century icon.”}The four-star hotel tells the story of society icon Juliette Récamier, famous for the literary salons she hosted in her living room in the 19th century. A savvy PR expert centuries before Twitter, beautiful Juliette entertained the greatest minds of the day. Each floor takes a different phase of her life as its theme, examining the zeitgeist of her time, the love she had with Chateaubriand, her sojourn in Italy and her friendship with her meilleure amie, Madame de Staël. The hotel also recreates Juliette’s cultural soirées with events like “Conversations Around the Piano” and “A Fireside Chat and a Harp” — encouraging dialogue between the musicians and the public.

Just as Juliette entrusted her salon’s decoration to the best contemporary artists of the day, the current owners hired top-notch artists to sculpt their new hotel. Designer Anne Gelbard is a darling of fashion brands like Dior for the technique she developed fusing metal leaf to fabric. Gelbard has brought “home couture” to La Belle Juliette with her exacting choice of materials: drapes, custom-made furniture, faux ostrich leather and glittering mosaic tiles in the marbled bathrooms.

Swathed in fine fabrics and accented with vibrant colors, the guestrooms are comfortable and elegant. On the walls there are rare period prints, texts and framed drawings connected to Juliette Récamier. In the lobby, period furniture has been transformed with a contemporary look by artisan woodworker Ludovic Avenel.

With just 34 rooms, the hotel has an intimate feel, and the staff is quick to provide insider city recommendations. Despite its small size, the hotel has a spa with a small relaxation pool and hammam. The Talma restaurant serves Italian fare inspired by Juliette’s time in that country. After you’ve spent a day pounding the cobblestones, the hotel’s garden terrace — decked out with hot pink chairs — really hits the spot.

Excellent Place to Stay
Reviewed 1 week ago

The service at La Belle Juliette was impeccable. This hotel is an absolute must stay when you visit Paris. The staff was absolutely amazing. They were very helpful with recommendations, and directions. My stay was from May 2 - 8, 2019. The beds were very comfortable. There is a daily breakfast buffet. The location of the hotel in St Germain was close to many restaurants and shopping, all within walking distance. This area also has a few street markets which are always very nice. The Luxembourg Gardens and the beautiful church of St Germain were also within walking distance. The location felt like a very safe neighborhood, we were comfortable walking around out night. The staff at the front desk were also very helpful with calling a taxi when needed. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. I have travelled all over the world and have stayed in hotels ranging from 3 stars to 5 stars, and this hotel is in my top 3 places to stay as it relates to service and location. There will be a city tax you must pay at check out. A big thank you and kudos to the staff and leadership at Hotel & Spa La Belle Juliette, you all are GREAT!

Definitely four star

We are frequent visitors to Paris, usually staying in four star hotels on the left bank and this was our first time at La Belle Juliette and I hope will be the first of many. The hotel felt a class above a number of our other stays, from the warm and professional welcome (Kevin, I think), the size of the room (quite big for Paris), excellent bedding and bathroom/shower to the really good breakfast. It's situated in a quiet street so very little noise. We also appreciated the chance to sit in the small garden (it was very warm during our visit over Easter), particularly as we were enjoying our welcome glass of champagne. The hotel is very tastefully (and characterfully) decorated. I enjoyed my brief visit to the spa, next time I will make sure I allow more time. All the staff we met were pleasant and helpful, a credit to the hotel.

A la prochaine fois la belle Juliette!

Great location, tiny rooms, traveling with children
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We stayed here in April 2019 for four nights. The hotel is in a very charming location with little restaurants and shops on the same street and nearby. You can walk almost anywhere from here. The location is ideal.

We were four people - two adults and two children - and we had what they call the family room or family suite - two rooms that adjoined with a short hallway. We were on Floor 1, which was incredibly noisy in the morning as Parisians made their way to work. There is no place to put your clothes in the rooms as there is a tiny closet that may fit a few shirts and then one tiny drawer. We had clothes in the bathtub and had to use the shower in the kids' room because we needed the storage. The toilets are in their own tiny rooms and smaller than an aircraft toilet. If you are a large person, you will have trouble. The hallways in the hotel are dark and lights go on with sensors, which is a little unnerving for some children.

The staff was very helpful - Louis at the bar was wonderful. The front desk ladies were very helpful. The only service that was bad was in the restaurant for breakfast (we did arrive near the end, though, but there was nothing left and we couldn't get a waitress) and the housekeeping. We were gone the entire day every day and no one came to our rooms until about 5:00 pm to clean, when we were back and getting ready for dinner. One day they didn't come at all. When they did come, they did not take away any of the dirty glasses, so each day we had to go to the bar with used coffee cups and wine glasses. When we did call housekeeping each day to help restock, the maid did arrive quickly and was very nice. I just think they need more housekeepers here.

The hotel is pretty in a quirky way. The spa looked empty and the pool had no water in it. Maybe I stopped down at a bad time, not sure.

The rooms are very small but the decor is attractive.

I know many Paris hotel rooms are small, but I think if staying more than a weekend, I would look for a place with more space.

The hotel was very helpful with emails before we arrived, helping us to make plans for an Eiffel Tower Tour and also dinner reservations and a car service to the airport.

Excellent small hotel in nice neighborhood

Stayed here for a weekend, and really enjoyed the hotel location, staff, beds and breakfast. Small hotel with exclusive feel. Great service and good selection for breakfast. Easy walking distance to parks, good restaurants, shopping, Notre Dame and other sights.

Fantastic Hotel - centrally located in 7. arr.

A fantastic hotel, located very centrally in 6. arrondissement. Small bars & restaurants all over the area and shopping area quite nearby. Totally quiet area around the hotel. Hotel La Belle Juliette has its own spa-department, not big, but after a day of walking, a steam-bath fits just perfect!

But what I really want to point out is the quality of the employees at the hotel. They are SO service-minded and available. Room, bar, reception; they always meet you with a sincere smile and all the time focusing on what good they can do for you as a customer.

A hotel I will definitely come back to - next time I’m in Paris. Kudos!
