How to Get There
Hotel was in a fairly good location, quite close to train stations and felt safe. All the staff from reception, the breakfast room and cleaning were very nice and helpful. Most spoke English which we were grateful for, but even those who did not made an effort to communicate with us and we appreciated that a lot. Unfortunately we were quite ill most of our stay recovering from a bug, so we spent more time in the room than one normally would when visiting Paris. The bed was a little uncomfortable but we still slept well. The room was small but cosy, clean and comfortable, and we appreciated that we could sleep peacefully while we recovered.
One thing to be aware of is the ceiling height - hubby is 6’4’ and the ceiling just as you enter the room dips a little so he bumped his head a few times entering until he remembered to duck down for that section. We were on the 4th floor, I’m not sure if the lower levels had higher ceilings, but if you are tall it would be worth checking with the staff when making a reservation. It’s got those lovely exposed rafters, giving the room a lot of character and warmth.
The shower is small, but I think it was actually bigger than others in similar Paris hotels. As it is a step up into the shower, I was worried hubby would need to duck or position his head between rafters when showering, but actually he was fine. He did find it a little hard to manoeuvre in there as he is a solid guy, but you’ll find that in other hotels it is even more difficult.
The breakfast, included in our rate, was typical European, and though we didn’t have much of an appetite we enjoyed the baguette, croissant, cold meats and cheeses. They had eggs too, but that was pretty average, which makes sense because that is not normally part of a French breakfast.
The small lift worked well and was much appreciated - many hotels don’t have elevators and this can make a big difference if travelling with luggage. Housekeeping did a great job.
As far as location, it’s not super close to the Louvre or Eiffel Tower, but for the good value of the hotel, we found taking the train or an occasional taxi worthwhile. And of course, walking in Paris is delightful.
A good Paris option. Decent room in small hotel. Friendly staff and great location. Good local restaurants and shopping nearby. Easy walk to various attractions such as the museum de Orsay and montparnasse.
The hotel was lovely and very centrally located. It was really easy to get around and there's lots of great restaurants and shopping in the area. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. The staff were all very friendly and helpful
From the moment we arrived we felt like we were staying in a good friend’s house. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff we came in contact with. We were provided with good restaurants to eat in with bookings made by the super efficient and friendly receptionist. She also gave us printed directions to the nearby sights taking in the most scenic routes. All the restaurants were of excellent quality and we really enjoyed our stay there and I would have no hesitation in returning. Thank you all again.
Excellent location, very clean and staff were very friendly! Breakfast was pretty nice. Definitely this hotel has a very attractive cost-satisfaction ratio. Saint Germain des Pres is a good option for those who want to runaway from more touristic addresses.
