- The elegant neo-classical style of the décor
- Feasting on French classics at the in-house Brasserie, Le Luco
What To Know
- Rooms are cozy but typical given Parisian standards
- Notre Dame and the Louvre are within walking distance
- Despite its position on Boulevard St. Michel, rooms are quiet
- Free WiFi works well
Any of Paris’ arrondissements merit time spent exploring, but the fifth, around the dynamic Latin Quarter, deserves a special mention. This historic central area, one of the oldest in the French capital, is close to the bohemian district of Saint-Germain, with its street artists and macaron shops, the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens and the iconic, groomed Sorbonne.
Right in the heart of it all, you’ll find the boutique Hotel Observatoire Luxembourg. With 41 rooms, the hotel is intimate and utterly Parisian, with a neo-classical flavor, furnishings by French designers and a renowned in-house brasserie. When you’re not savoring French specialties at the hotel, you’ll find every type of cuisine in the warren of streets off Place St Michel – plus some seriously cool late-night bars.
How to Get There
I loved my stay here, the location is perfect and the hotel is cozy with beautiful decor. The staff was super nice and the room I booked was actually bigger than I expected, with a modern bathroom creating the perfect complement to a more"art deco" room. The breakfast space takes you to the Parisian style of "cafe" facing the street with a nice atmosphere. Transport wise you also have a bus stop just in front, in case you prefer it over the metro or uber. Will come back for sure!
Great location- RER train from CDG (9 euros) just steps away; walking distance to Latin Quarter, Notre Dame, Cluny, Pantheon, Luxembourg Gardens. No personal safety concerns- neighborhood not scary, entrance always monitored, locked at night. Warm, helpful staff. Spotless bathroom. Room size- small yes, but typical for Paris in mid price range.
We had booked this hotel through a 'holiday/hotel website' and and deal including our Eurostar travel, 3 nights at the hotel with breakfast included and a boat trip. The hotel was attractively decorated and our room on the first floor, though a bit cramped, had everything we wanted (including robes and a kettle and mugs). There was plenty of hot water in a large shower room and the beds were comfortable. Despite our room overlooking the busy Boulevard St Michel we were not disturbed by the traffic or the occasional rumble of the RER underneath us. There was a very good choice of fruit, cheese, cereals, pastries and hot food for breakfast - even Gluten Free bread. The staff were universally charming and helpful. We would certainly recommend it to those wanting to stay in this part of Paris.
Despite the fact room was small, it had everything we needed, and hey who wants to be in a hotel when Paris lies before you. Excellent location, walk to museums, the Seine, Norte dame etc. Lots of nearby restaurants, parc Luxembourg at your doorstep. So easy to get to Charles de Gaulle by RER train. 45 minutes door to door. The staff are so pleasant and helpful especially the front desk, even the room cleaning staff. So polite, put up with my poor French and switched to English when necessary.
Although nice and clean the room was very small and cramped. The pictures on the website are very misleading and in my opinion I am not even sure how this place can be classed as a hotel - there is no hotel feel to it and no proper reception area, just a little box. The breakfast was also pretty disappointing, I would suggest going to one of the local cafes in the area where you will get more choice and more for your money no doubt. That aside the staff were nice and friendly but I would not stay here again, there are many more nicer looking hotels in the area.
