How to Get There
I was interested by the terrible reviews and I can’t say I agree - although I also have some reservations about the Montaigne.
I think there has been some kind of refurb recently, which has helped.
My room was more than adequate size, I liked the new bathroom, and enjoyed the fact that one could go out on the balcony and look out over the Avenue Montaigne with its designer shops.
On the other hand I arrived late and there was no room service at all, even though the hotel guide offers 24 hour service, albeit reduced after 23:00. I was too tired to go out, so dinner consisted of a tub of nut for €14. I’ve eaten better for less...
Breakfast, French style, was more than OK and the environment was intimate without feeling cramped. Great location too.
The acid test is whether you’d come back, and if I had business in the area again I would, but I would not deliberately choose the Montaigne if I had meetings in another part of Paris. It’s good but not THAT good.
The location is very convenient on the posh Avenue Montaigne. The rest is to be forgotten
15 minutes to check in as the only person at the desk was immersed in a lengthy negotiation with another customer
The room stinks of sewage. After complaining they admitted that it is a recurring issue . Well... do not sell the room then
An early morning coffee was never delivered
DO NOT STAY HERE. I stayed here over the Christmas holiday last year and the rooms were tiny. We received a room with a shower that had no overhead. It was a small bathtub that a tiny person could not fit into and has to hold the handle manually to wash themselves. When we told them we need to switch rooms they had to wait to speak to a manager (who is never there) and it took 24 hours. The next day they put us in a slightly larger room that was for a handicap person. The toilet is inside the shower with no doors and our bathroom flooded. When we explained there is no way we can stay in a room like this for 6 days and after several phone calls throughout the day, they FINALLY moved us after they got a "hold" of the manager. Throughout our entire stay we probably saw the manager once. They were not even willing to move us again until we showed them how ridiculous it was to stay in a room where the bathroom gets filled with water every time we shower.
The problems did not even end there. Upon check out they charged both me and my fiance's credit cards, when only mine was supposed to be a hold from when we checked in. After two weeks of going back and forth with the hotel on the two charges, which even showing them proof of our two bank statements they didn't believe us, I finally got a refund but was not given the full amount. They claimed the Euro-dollar amount changed and it's not their fault. My credit card company even thought it was ridiculous.
The management is horrible and they never return your calls, especially Emanuella the "manager" who is never there. She is so rude. I had spent so much money just on trying to call them and always being placed on hold. They are incredibly rude and inadequate. Spare yourself and stay at Plaza Athenee across the street.
The staff was very helpful and welcoming. I also enjoyed a few great meals at the hotel restaurant. The location was great and close to so many great stores and restaurants. My room was cozy, comfortable, and I will definitely book again when I return.
The day after checking into this hotel, fraudulent transactions were made with our credit card. The hotel was the only place we used the card during our trip to Paris. The reception staff were very disorganised on check in so I wonder about the security of information provided, including passport information. Would not recommend.
