How to Get There
I’ve been to Paris three times in the past decade and this hotel was the best by far! It checked all the boxes for us. Very clean! Only a few blocks from Louvre, Champs Elysees and Seine. And some fantastic cafes and reasturants within minutes or just a 20 minute walk to Les Halles where some of my favorite reasturants are. But best of all we’re the concierge staff! All of them kind, helpful, pleasant and courteous. It made our stay much more enjoyable. As for room size I’ve seen some complaints on here and it begs the question, “Have you people stayed in small, reasonable, boutique hotels in Europe?” I would say you have not. Our room was the largest room I’ve had in a hotel in Paris and a nice sized private bath. Many hotels do not even have private baths in Paris unless you pay $500 a night. Also, if you need “a view” this may not be for you but again, a view will cost you in Paris. And who needs it when the best views of the city are a few blocks from your room? I’m a harsh critique when it comes to hotels and service because I was a house manager at a B&B for many years. The Hotel Lion hits a home run and when we return we will be staying here although we may opt for one of their resident studios because they seem pretty amazing and you get a kitchen. I realize this review may seem over the top but I assure you I knew nothing about this hotel before I booked it through Expedia. I’m just so happy that I found it. Merci beaucoup to the entire staff!
The hotel is clean, but the spaces are very small - particularly the lift, which cannot accommodate two people and luggage. The location is great -- 2 blocks from the Louvre and surrounded by decent restaurants. Don't buy the continental breakfast; you can do much better within a couple blocks. There is a McDonalds for the only hot food before 8am, and a popular bakery right around the corner. It's a safe neighborhood and the hotel is worth the money.
The staff was pleasant, but we did have an issue leaving. We asked the front desk attendant to call a cab for us to leave to the airport. (We had luggage and told him we were going to the airport.) He called, and one of my companions asked him how much it would be. At first, the clerk readily replied "it's a flat rate." (Which as you should know is the case all over Paris.) Then the clerk thought about it, made another phone call, and informed us that the original cab was unavailable. He graciously offered to call another cab company. I agreed. But after speaking on the phone again, the clerk informed me that the cab would be here in a minute, but it would be a metered cab -- and we would have to pay the meter. I declined, and we walked to the corner; where we proceeded to hail a cab within two minutes. He charged us the flat rate without any hesitation, and confirmed "it is by law" in Paris. Could it possibly be that the handsome, young & very polite desk clerk was trying to scam us with the help of his cabbie buddy? Paris is a big city - be aware.
We stayed in the “residence” part of the hotel, in a 2 bed loft for 5 nights
Pros: for a first trip to Paris, the location was perfect for us as we mostly visited the museums, Eiffel, etc. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Convenient mini market down the street.
Staff were wonderful, especially Hamsa and Guillaume. They helped with bags, buying Versailles tickets, and even helped with our next booking in Burgundy.
Beds and linens were comfy. Housekeeping was professional.
No cons really. The room is small but that’s to be expected
The staff is fantastic. We are particularly indebted to Hamza who treated us as royalty. He should be the model for customer service. Yes, fellow Americans, the rooms are small. Welcome to Europe. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The beds are also very comfortable. The location is in one of Paris’ prime neighborhoods, near the Louvre, with many good restaurants nearby. That accounts for the price which is still reasonable for such a neighborhood. I will make this my first choice for future visits to Paris.
Real friendly staff and great location to stay in Paris. Small room with a very nice shower and great breakfast. When I was having trouble getting my boarding pass on line, one of the staff, Zakaria spent 20 minutes helping me, and he solved the problem. I would stay here again in a heartbeat! The manager Hamza really made us feel at home and welcomed us to Paris.
