How to Get There
Only one night and didn’t even have time for a full breakfast the following morning, but our experience at Le Mareuil was good. The room (a superior) was clean, a bit cramped, weirdly configured with a separate toilet room at one end, an in-room washbasin and shower/bath alcove at the other, and the comfortable bed in the middle. The room looked out over the street but was quiet with the window closed (AC worked fine). It was reasonably well equipped although no coffee maker. Location is on a side street in a less touristy neighborhood with local shops, cafes, etc; it’s about 15-20 minutes walk from the main tourist area of Le Marais. The hotel itself is about a “4” rating. The “5” is because of the outstanding desk staff. Not only were they very pleasant generally, but when we had an unexpected crisis in getting a taxi for the airport on the morning, they really jumped to it, worked hard and fast to find us a taxi, get us checked out and loaded into the taxi and away quickly. Exceptional service that we much appreciated!
I'm torn on this property. The location is perfect. The hotel is just a block or two from Place du Rebublique and is convenient to several metro lines. It also boards Le Morais which makes it an ideal base to explore this trendy Parisian neighborhood. The staff is exceptional. When we checked in they spent time with us to familiarize us with the local area. With their maps, their drawings and their explanations, our group felt ready to go out and explore the city! The price is also an advantage. The rate is very reasonable for a hotel room in a world class city. The down side to this kind of value though is the size of the rooms. All our rooms were small and cramped. With two people in the room we literally were on top of each other throughout our stay. If you are person that values space and territory, then this might not be the hotel for you. If value, location, and service are bigger pluses in your travel hierarchy, then you should enjoy your stay at Hotel Le Mareuil.
From the get-go this was a wonderful experience! The staff are beyond helpful, and I looked forward to seeing them each morning! Alison, was especially fabulous, as she assisted me in making plans to take a hot air balloon ride about an hour outside of Paris. She was the epitome of amazing service! Arnaud is also a terrific part of the staff, and sat down with us with a map to help orient us to the neighborhood. The room was wonderful, the view, lovely...close to le Marais and the Oberkampf and Republique stops on the metro. But really, it was the staff that made this a hotel we will return to, when we come back to this magical city!
We stayed at this verry nice hotel near la place de republique. Staff was very friendly and always available. The room was not that big but definitely large enough and had all the comfort you would like. The bed was verry good and the room was really quiet, perfect after exploring Paris in the sun! The bathroom was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tastefull with a lot to choose. We parked our car just across th street in a guarded public parking, that we booked with Neoparking a a low price! We would recommend this hotel to everybody who is visiting Paris for a romantic weekend!
Frankly, when I first saw our room, I did not expect to be writing a 5-star review, because our room had a strange layout (more about that later). However, I loved this boutique hotel and ended up staying for 6 days. At check-in, we were given detailed maps along with a thorough explanation of where things were. The location was marvelous, close to many metro stations and restaurants, easy to get to sights but with a vibrant neighborhood feel. Our room was not large, but bigger than many I’ve had in Europe, where rooms in old buildings have been carved up to provide en-suite bathrooms, and had good lighting and closet space.
When we needed additional attention, the staff was so helpful (and everyone we encountered spoke English well.) First was the need for extra nights due to the rail strike- we were given a lower rate for those nights (very helpful, as we were forfeiting 2 prepaid nights elsewhere.) Next, my husband became ill and the staff called for a doctor who was there within an hour. When he had to go to a lab for tests they gave us detailed directions. When we were too tired later that night to do anything more than pick up a light meal at a nearby grocery, I inquired about getting a cup of tea, and was brought a tray with an electric kettle, choice of teas, cookies, and jar of honey—no charge. Everyone asked how my husband was feeling (he did recover quickly with the antibiotics the doctor prescribed) and if we needed help getting a taxi when we left.
We did not eat breakfast at the hotel - the Pâtisserie at the corner does a nice basic breakfast for under 6€- but my husband is an early riser and he went downstairs for a cup of coffee each morning. We weren’t charged for this.
As to the layout, we had a toilet in a little room near the entry to the bedroom, and the rest of the bathroom was at the far end of the room, where it could be closed off by a curtain, but it contained the only window in the room. I’m not sure how many rooms are configured this way, but I would rather have at least a sink in the same room as the toilet. Having said that, I did appreciate the rainfall shower head, thick towels, and honey-scented toiletries.
