How to Get There
We took the Eurostar from London and stayed at Le Marcel for 4 nights. It was an easy walk from Gare Du Nord and the hotel was well situated for transportation. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. Our room was more than adequate. It was clean, comfortable and quiet, as it was on the back of the building. Breakfast was very nice, with lots of lovely pastries. The only negative for this hotel was that the neighborhood was a little "dodgy" as it was located in a transportation area.
We stayed at Le Marcel for 4 nights. We arrived via Eurostar at Gare Du Nord and, with a quick check of the map, we found the hotel after only a 5 minute walk. The hotel entrance is small and next to Burger King, but always has someone downstairs to welcome you in. After checking in which was quick, with helpful staff, we were shown to our room. It was a little small but did the job for a few nights stay. The bed was comfortable and the shower was excellent, along with the shower gels provided which were very nice. Breakfast was nice although the dining hall is small. There is a limited supply of hot for (scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon) but a range of delicious pastries - I would recommend the chocolate filled donuts!
The location of the hotel is great for traveling as it is right next to the Gare du l'est, hop on hop off service and Paris bus routes. It is also a 40 minute walk down the road to the river front. The area is okay, not the best in Paris, but not the worst. There are a few restaurants and bars along the street, however, as it is near the station and bus routes it does get very busy and at night, particularly around 9pm it was very noisy with sirens and car horns, however we soon realised you hear that all over Paris!
We did have to ask twice for a light bulb to be fixed in our bathroom, and after the first night we were told the air con couldn't be set on cold as the heating was on, which was unfortunate as the room did get hot in the evenings.
Overall, the hotel was ideal for us to explore Paris for a few days.
Our first hotel in Paris did not disappoint. Really helpful staff. Uber trendy hotel with fab shower gel etc by Maison Margiela which I had never heard of but is quite pricey. Great bakery round the corner for croissants.
