Opened in early 2016 as a fashionable alternative to the usual Parisian-style sleeps fuelled by toile fabrics, glittering chandeliers and orderly florals, this charming pied-a-terre is as cosmic-chic as it gets. But comets, constellations, space asteroids, planets and deep space aesthetics aside, the owners have managed to effortlessly pull off a vibe that’s hip but homely.
Set in the east of Paris, just a few minutes from the Place de la Nation, all of the 30 spacious guest rooms at this charming hotel assure contemporary Scandinavian-inspired design. Expect soothing blue, grey and brown hues, sumptuous fabrics, comfortable beds dressed with luxe linens, and flatscreen TVs with digital channels. Nice extras include complimentary Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines, and good-looking bathrooms with L’OCCITANE en Provence toiletries.
After refuelling on delicious buffet-style breakfasts, spend time visiting the tombs of illustrious talents such as Chopin, Molière, Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde and Édith Piaf at the nearby Père Lachaise Cemetery before hopping on the Paris Metro to work your way through the eye-popping museums, shops and galleries. Once done with sightseeing, head back here to relax in the stylish bar where you’ll be seeing stars before you’ve even ordered a drink.
How to Get There
Well designed room, comfortable, quiet and clean. Very quiet location, near a Tube stop, a bit far from the city centre, in a quiet quarter. Staff very polite and friendly, stunning air conditioning in the middle of the last heat weather episode.
This hotel is something of a find. The deluxe room we had was large with an enormous double (and extremely comfortable) bed. It was also quiet (on the fifth of six floors). The bathroom catered for two at once and the safe was big enough to take all of our valuables as well as a large laptop. Our son had his own single room which, although smaller than ours, had a double bed big enough to generously accommodate his lanky frame. He was particularly pleased with the free wifi which he deemed to be appropriately fast. We went during the recent heatwave and were grateful for the quiet but efficient air-conditioning. Housekeeping was exceptional (towels and bedding were immaculate) as was front of house. There were a few changes of staff at the front desk during our stay, but thankfully they all spoke excellent English (my schoolboy French would only have confused them otherwise). One lady - I'm ashamed to say I never asked her name, but she said that she was originally from Romania - took the time to recommend a few supermarkets (wine and croissants!) and restaurants in the area. In fact the location - although a little out of town - was well served with eateries, and, if you like Italian food, we recommend Il Santo on the Avenue du Dr Arnold Netter just across the main road. On the subject of location - the Metro station is a few minutes walk from the hotel and it's at the end of Line 1 so it'll take you quickly to pretty much anywhere you might want to visit as a tourist. We found the RATP smartphone app invaluable, and made it from Gare du Nord to the hotel in about thirty minutes with only one change of line. Hotel Comete is highly recommended and when we revisit Paris (soon!) we do not intend to stay anywhere else.
Nice, clean and comfortable modern hotel with lovely big bathrooms. Staff friendly and helpful. Location is just round the corner from the metro line 1,which means you can get around Paris very easily though the hotel is quite far out of the centre. Breakfast was ok and you could get free water and fruit at any time, though sometimes there was no fruit. My only criticism is there is no mirror in the bedroom! Very difficult to dry your hair etc with no mirror. I don’t think you would be disappointed with this hotel.
