Beautifully restored and elegant hotel near Galleries Layfette

My husband is a Hilton Diamond so we stay here at least once a year when we are in Paris. It’s a beautiful building in the heart of the Opera only a short walk to Louvre (15 mins). The fifth floor hasn’t views of the Eiffel Tower. We had the suite 521 and while the bathroom was small it was a lovely room. I actually prefer the deluxe on the 1st floor overlooking Lazzare Train Station, the room and bathroom are huge! It’s decorated very beautifully. The bar in the lobby is simply stunning. The lounge is nice and the service is great. I was a little upset to find out after we had requested the large suite on the first floor, apparently the manager had given it away to someone else. We had also confirmed two weeks before to make sure we had that room for the five of us. We all squeezed into 521 and it was fine but that was a little upsetting. All in all this is a great hotel, one of Hilton’s prettiest properties.

Disappointing Experience

About the only thing going for this hotel is its location. We arrived from London in the late afternoon only to be told by a very rude lady at check in, that one of our rooms had been cancelled and there were no other rooms available. We had booked two rooms for 7 days and they had been paid for in full 3 months earlier. We were basically told that there was nothing the Hilton could do with no offer to find us another room in Paris. Hilton did not even offer to store our bags or offer us a cup of tea or coffee. Four hours later, three of us crammed into one room and It took three days to resolve our problem and receive appropriate accommodation for the rest of the week. The Hilton did not accept any responsibility for this stuff up.
As far a service and amenities, I have stayed in better 2-3 star accommodation. This hotel is not worthy of the Hilton badge and neither is its staff.
The bar is an astronomical rip off and we were told by one very rude waiter that fries were not served on a Tuesday, even though, fries are on the menu with the burgers and club sandwiches?? On our last night, the power was lost on our level. No rooms had power and when we went down to the concierge, we were told that there was no duty manager, only an intern. Mmmm?? Obviously no workplace safety.
This was the worst accommodation experience I have ever encountered. Bitterly disappointed,

Great hotel and very convenient to the train station, metro and shopping. Very nice bar, The Salon, to relax in after a day of sight seeing or shopping. Nice large rooms and beautiful bathrooms. The staff was very helpful and professional.

We were in the city for 4 days and based from this spot. Very convenient location for walking as well as the train station and close by hop on hop off bus stop. Beautiful setting. Great breakfast buffet. Room size was adequate. Helpful staff for everything we needed.

The room could not get below 80° The room was uncomfortably warm when I asked for the temperature to be reduced I got a blank stare. At the Bar, a gin and tonic cost 16 Euros for the Gin and five 5 Euros for the tonic to mix it with! I won’t be back
