Pied-a-terre Perfection

In short: A very generous upgrade meant that our lodgings became one of the highlights of our short city break. And that's saying something for a city as beautifully engaging and attraction-tastic as Paris.

The long story: It's actually somewhat difficult for me to properly review the GHSM, because although we stayed there for three nights, we didn't actually stay there... Upon check-in, Reception advised of a "problem" with our room: not exactly sure what this meant, but ultimately it did not matter in the slightest as they offered us an upgrade to an off-site apartment that's normally used for long-stay bookings that require self-contained facilities. As it transpired, we found ourselves in a glorious 2-bed, second-floor apartment overlooking the Pantheon, living the life of the bourgeoisie.

Therefore, it's hard for me to do justice to a review of the main hotel location. Suffice to say that our experiences with the front-of-house staff were universally positive; they were always polite, friendly, professional, and helpful. For the record, the hotel is located on a small and relatively quiet street in the Sorbonne area, so it's somewhat bohemian with plenty of students, student-orientated shops, but also quite a few quality hotels and restaurants/cafes; the location is safe and pleasant.

Furthermore, it's an easy walk to local attractions such as the Pantheon, the Luxembourg Gardens and its Museum (currently hosting a fantastic Alfonse Mucha exhibition), the Musee Curie, and only 800m to Notre Dame and the Seine. There is a nearby transit station (the RER B line) but, to be honest, you're always better to try to walk an old-world city like Paris; it's the only true way to get the feel and the most out of your visit. I'd also recommend one of the river transit services such a Batobus; another great way to see more while getting around between the major attractions.

The acid test (that is, would I return): Certainly, and without hesitation.

Loved it!

We stayed for 5 nights in late October. The room was exactly as expected. It was clean, the linens and bed were excellent and the location worked for us.
The fridge is teeny and filled with water, juice...there is a charge for these items. There is a charge sheet in the desk blotter listing the item costs. We simply moved the bottles outside the fridge to make room for our beer and wine. Before we left, we placed the bottles back in the fridge, no issues there.

The staff are excellent and very helpful always saying good morning and wishing you a good day and welcoming you back when you return. It's a nice personal touch.
We enjoyed the tea time on a few occasions when we need a caffeine jolt in the afternoon.

We tried the steam room one afternoon. It was clean, and intimate. A good experience.

Tips:
The closet has minimal hangers, pack extra hangers if you need to hang more than 5 things.
This hotel does not supply washcloths (face cloths). Bring your own if you need.
Controls for heat/AC are in the room but the actual control is with the front desk. A quick call will get the temperatures adjusted for you.
The hotel can make arrangements for a private driver if you need. We coordinated airport transport through the hotel and had no issues.
If your room is facing the street it can get a bit loud in the morning (garbage collection). We brought ear plugs anticipating the noise.

I would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Easy to access through RER B from Paris airports. Luxembourg Gardens is 2 blocks away. Easy metro and bus access to everywhere in Paris. This hotel is hard to beat for the good rate it offers.....highly recommended....

Was in Paris for business meetings and needed somewhere convenient to stay, Grand Hotel Saint Michel was a good choice, located conveniently near the metro to CDG airport, the Sorbonne and central Paris, easy to get around, by metro, uber or taxi, the room was comfortable, location was quiet and the staff were friendly and helpful

Tight space but conveniently located

We had a pleasant stay at this hotel during the first week of September. the hotel was conveniently located near various train and bus stations and had a bunch of restaurants and bars within walking distance. the room was pretty small but i guess its like all paris hotel rooms, with just enough space for 2 people. bathroom was very small, but shower did not have a curtain or a full glass door because of which the water fell outside of the shower area near the door onto the carpet of the bedroom. the air conditioning was pretty wonky too, we couldnt control it directly from our room and had to tell the front desk everytime to turn it on and off. it was very inconvenient especially as we didnt have temperature control and it was freezing with their settings. there was a spa and tea area available but we did not end up using either of them. people at the front desk were friendly and helpful. All in all, a very average place to stay 3-4 nights.
