How to Get There
After a very disappointing 1-night stay at another nearby hotel on the Rue de Rivoli, this was a very welcome change of hotel and location. Tucked away discreetly in a small street but close to then Rue de Rivoli and the Louvre and within walking distance of the Pompidou Centre.
The check-in was handled efficiently and in a very friendly way by English speaking staff. The room, though small, was beautifully clean and fresh with lovely,y crisp white sheets and all the usual trimmings.
However, it was not cheap and I would dispute its 5-star status. I think 4-star would be more appropriate. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay and took advantage of its excellent location.
Polite service, clean, and well-located just a couple blocks from the Louvre. That’s where the positives end which is frustrating at the rates this ‘luxury’ hotel charges.
I treated my 23-year old cousin to her first trans-Atlantic holiday and was excited for her to experience a special hotel experience along with all of her other “first time in Paris” trip. While she wasn’t disappointed, the vibe in the hotel was nil which was hugely disappointing. It felt like a fake movie set of a small room in a luxury hotel where there is nothing special and you “must be missing the rest of the experience/areas” because this just can’t be it. Where are all the people? In the four full days we were there there were maybe 4-6 people around anywhere. It felt so strange and uninviting.
The hotel is listed as a 5-Star accommodation but it’s a little lacking and felt much more en par with a 3-star hotel. The ambience is completely absent— no one in the communal areas, the lobby/concierge area is tiny and feels more like a check-in area for a hostel. The gym is also tiny with one treadmill, one elliptical, and a few weights; the size of a large bathroom.
We moved for our final night to the Westin Vendome nearby and while the rooms/hallways were certainly in need of a face lift, the ambience, lighting, space, and room were so much better over all. For the price, I definitely would not recommend the Grand Hotel du Palais Royal to anyone. At this price point you can definitely find a much more welcoming and fun hotel experience.
Beautiful hotel, exceptional service and great location for our needs (we were just in Paris for one night and wanted to be close to the Louvre). Room was spacious, for Paris anyway! Big bed, slick and modern bathroom, evening service was a nice touch too. Only grumble was we had to call concierge twice to get a iron delivered, which was on top of not being delivered an extra pillow that we’d requested - I’m really picking here though. Had a wonderful stay. Highly recommend.
This hotel is truly a gem. We checked in at the last minute due to having to move from another hotel that was awful. The room was spacious and super clean and expertly decorated. The hotel in general is beautiful and the staff are all very very professional. The bath products are DIPTYQUE! We also had a nespresso machine that we used every morning. The area is great.
We had two rooms for several days here. We loved the location as it is steps from the Louvre. There is a very good breakfast with a combination of buffet and made to order items. The scrambled eggs were truly amazing. We had one light lunch there and it was really overpriced for what you got. The rooms were nice and the service was good but not luxury. We stayed in two other luxury hotels and during this trip and while there was nothing wrong with the service here, it did not go above and beyond in anyway. My conclusion is that the price of the hotel, which is high, is due to its prime location.
