A more comfortable stay if...

Overall am happy with my stay at Citadines Opera Paris but would have been better if a request for a luggage rack when I checked in at around 8 pm (after housekeeping hours) could have been acceded to. I even volunteered to help and carry the rack to the room myself but still the answer given by the lady staff on duty was a flat no. 😲 (the rack was found delivered in our room when we came back at the end of the next day, but it was too late as we had placed our luggages on makeshift racks from the tables and chairs in the room).

Room was better than expected

We like Citadines for longer holidays as they have a laundry facilities which are always appreciated. Having stayed at the Citadines St Germain previously which was very old and dark, we were pleased with our room which felt a bit more like the ones we have stayed at in Melbourne and Kyoto.

The Aparthotel is located closed to the Grand Magasin and in a small street. The rooms are located overlooking a small courtyard. Eating options are nearby.

The room was newly renovated with wooden floors and has a small kitchenette with dishwasher, stove and microwave oven. There was a small gym downstairs as well as laundry where you could use coins to do washing and drying. There also are heated towel rails in the rooms which dry clothes quickly!

A Buffet Breakfast is available for and extra E16 per person but there are cheaper options nearby.

The front reception team look busy at times (only one or two people) so I can understand why some reviews report inconsistencies re service. The lady when we checked in though was very nice.

Overall we thought this was a good value option compared to other big chain hotels nearby (with the plus being the washing facilities and kitchenette).

Spiral Horrors

This is an apartment rental, not a hotel so don’t confuse it with such. The positioning in the Opera area of Paris is fantastic. It’s surrounded by cafes & restaurants with major attractions within walkable distance. We were greeted warmly & check in was simple. But as soon as we walked into the 1 room apartment & saw the spiral staircase I knew we had a problem. First of all it’s almost impossible to get your luggage safely upstairs so we left it down. Secondly the toilet is on the ground floor & the bedroom & bathroom upstairs so when you need to go during the night you have to negotiate the spiral staircase. I had the horrors that one of us would slip & die!! Thirdly there was no shower curtain so to try & shower meant you flooded the bathroom so we found running the bath & sitting to use the flexible shower head was the only way to wash your hair. During our stay they also had a problem with the sewage so every now & then an obnoxious stink arose in the room, which was so bad we opened all the windows & went out. The bed is very comfortable & we would have slept well except for the worry over the spiral staircase!

A bit pricey but very good apartment hotel near the Opera.

The apartment hotel is a side road of a main road, boulevard des italiens (only 3-4 meters away). It is a nice chic hotel with good practical facilities. It offers studio and one-bedroom apartments, we were three adults, so we chose the latter. The 1-bedroom has a small bedroom, about 10 square meters with a double bed and a big wall closet and a TV. There is little space around the bed, but enough for sleeping purpose. There is a sitting room with a TV, a 4-chair dining table and a sofa bed that opens into one or two single beds, this room is slightly bigger than the bedroom, about 12 square meters. The bathroom is small with a tub shower, the WC is separate but next to the bathroom, it has a small sink which is thoughtful. There is also a small kitchenette with a fridge, a hot plate, electric kettle, toaster, dish washer, sufficient utensils and cutlery. There is another smaller closet near the sitting room offering more storage space. Both rooms have separate air-conditioning. Lighting in the apartment is good.
There are different studio types with slightly different areas. There is standard studios and duplex studios, the duplex has the kitchenette below and the bedroom and bathroom up. They are both priced the same but there are only two duplex studios and booking one cannot be guaranteed. There are also deluxe studios which are perhaps the same area as the standard but better furnished. They are also more expensive.
If you stay six or more days, housekeeping is done once in mid stay. Less than six days no housekeeping. If you require room cleaning there is a fee of €17 for studios and €28 for apartments, for one-time cleaning only. Used towels can be exchanged free at the reception. You also need to remove and dispose of garbage in a designated place, new garbage bags given free. This may not be a big issue specially if you are staying for a few days. The place is worth it.
There are many restaurants and shops nearby on both sides of the main road. The opera is within walking distance, about 10 minutes. There is a metro station a few meters away. The hotel offers free coffee in the lobby. There is a laundry room with two washing machines and a one dryer, very useful. Special coins must be bought at the reception. Five euros for one wash and 4 euros for one dryer cycle. There is also a fitness center, entry can be arranged through the reception. The lobby is well planned with a central open area and plenty seating. The entrance to the hotel is also pleasant. Overall, this is a very nice and clean place to stay, it may be a bit pricey, but well this is Paris.
