The Lowdown

A magnet for Croatia’s young, fashion-conscious party set, Hvar is busy trying to position itself as the St. Tropez of the Adriatic, and the hip, 54-room Riva Hvar Yacht Harbour Hotel is exhibit A. Guestrooms feature views of either the historic old town or the marina and are styled to pay homage to the golden era of Hollywood, with oversized black-and-white images of silver screen stars such as Bridget Bardot and Audrey Hepburn gazing down from the headboards. The vibrant color scheme – lipstick red and burnt orange details – suits the fun-loving crowd that gathers in the waterfront BB Club to dance and flirt while the boats bob in the marina just a few feet away.

In the Area

Take a cue from the free-spirited Croatian kids and hit Jerolim Beach, on the lovely Paklina Islands, which has been named the number one nudist beach in the world. Then, ramble around the Roman ruins on the chain’s largest island, Vlaka. Head back to Hvar for umbrella drinks and DJ-spun tunes by the sand at the Hula Hula beach bar, where celebrities like Beyonce have been known bust a move. And if sleep’s really not on your agenda, join the legendary Full Moon Night parties at Carpe Diem nightclub.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid

The location of this hotel is absolutely fantastic!! It is a minute's walk from where the ferry from Split/ Dubrovnik drops you off and the marina location is just amazing!
Unfortunately this is where the complements stop. The bedrooms are tiny, we had a superior double and there was nothing superior about it. Next the bathroom, what a joke:
No bathroom door
A glass door for the toilet which is inside the bathroom - meaning that you cannot do anything in private
There is a mirror on the wall positioned in such a way that when you are using the toilet your partner / guest / friend can see everything you are doing!!
Its truly shocking, worst deigned rooms / bathrooms I have ever seen in a hotel anywhere!
First night, we arrived at 8pm, there was no hot water in the room, I complained and an engineer came to the room 10 minutes later to tell me that I had to wait one hour for hot water as the pressure was low and there was nothing that he could do about it!! Not good enough!
Second morning ay breakfast there was no bread to make some toast, I raised this with a waitress to be told sorry they have run out and there was nothing that she could do about it.... must be a common response from their staff. I complained further as I could see other people who were buying breakfasts getting toast!!!
Luckily we were only staying in Hvar for 3 nights so this experience did not ruin what was an amazing holiday in Croatia
Please do visit Hvar, it's an amazing island,
Please do not book this hotel, it really is very poor!

Nothing special

Fifty yards from the ferry. Not easy to find -- hidden behind BB Club tables.

Noisy, small rooms, garish decor, basic breakfast. Not cheap. But OK for a couple of nights when travelling around.

Hvar itself is a bit limited. Get the bus to Starigrad, which is nice for a visit.

Do not stay here

Currently stuck here for 2 nights thank god no longer! Shower only has warm water when I complained I was told it is hot it is 40C! No that is lukewarm. Not to mention the water does not stay at that temperature in continues to go warm to cold constantly. Wifi connection drops in and out constantly. Bathroom is difficult to navigate with huge in the way glass door for toilet. We are in a superior Room and have barely enough room to get around the bed with 2 suitcases. The flooring is tacky and cheap! Can’t wait to leave here!
